3 Introduction The 2168 Employment Pathways Directory aims to map the opportunities available for people in relation to employment, education and training. The directory enables residents and organisations to have access to a resource which informs them about which programs and services are available to them within their particular circumstance. How to use the 2168 Employment Pathways Directory Simply look at the Index for the service that will most apply to you. If any extra guidance is needed, three case studies have been included on page 4, with suggested programs that may provide assistance to your situation. This document was developed by Kristina Oroz, social work student, for the Community 2168 Employment and Education Working Party. Design and layout by Nalini Sharma. 6 Case Studies Daniel is in Year 9. He is not sure what he wants to do but he knows that he is not happy at school and wants to leave. Daniel loves cars and sometimes dreams about being a mechanic for one of the V8 racing teams. He would like to leave school and do an apprenticeship but he does know where to start. He thinks they run the course at the local TAFE but he is not sure. He does not want to ask anyone at school. 7 Elias has been unemployed since injuring his back twelve years ago when working in a factory. At forty five years of age Elias is happy to be on a disability pension. It means that he has a steady income and doesn t have the stress of looking for work and submitting forms to Centrelink. Elias has received a letter in the mail asking him to attend an appointment at his local Centrelink office so he can undertake a Job Capacity Assessment. His English is poor and he doesn t understand all the contents of the letter. He is beginning to worry and doesn t know where he can get help. Acquired brain injury, epilepsy, tourettes, ADD/ADHD, Aspergers Syndrome. We are also happy to accept referrals for all other disability groups. We focus on supporting clients to gain the necessary skills and connections with their local communities to find a job. We provide specialist prevocational assistance, one-to-one and through our job seeker action group (JAG). JAG focuses on developing work skills and motivating clients to find a job in line with their vocational goals. We provide on the job support and training, working with the employer and the client. Our support is reduced as the client becomes more competent and confident in their workplace. We can provide access to workplace subsidies, workplace modifications and aids if necessary to support the clients successful transition into work. Acquired brain injury, epilepsy, tourettes, ADD/ADHD, Aspergers Syndrome. We are also happy to accept referrals for all other disability groups. We focus on supporting clients to gain the necessary skills and connections with their local communities to make the transition from school to work. We focus on life skills, social skills and work skills. We provide individualised and group based programs catering to people s specialised needs. Break Thru s TTWS program also has direct access to our Disability Open Employment Program. Service addresses barriers to employment via access rehabilitation interventions and comprehensive vocational assistance including re-training job seeking, job placement and worksite / employer support. Eligibility: Refugees, Centrelink benefits, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, NESB, CALD, unemployed, homeless, disability, mental illness, exoffenders, young offenders and mature aged. As long as all of the above have significant barriers to employment, they are eligible for this program. We offer a 20 week program that is full time. The program offers a supportive environment for those who have found mainstream education difficult or unsuccessful. 10 will have the opportunity to study a Certificate l or Certificate ll in Hospitality (Operations). Get work experience, on the job training. We have 7 areas of service that you will get to experience. These include: Foccacia Prepare and serve a range of tasty sandwiches and foccacias. Till Handle all monetary transactions by operating the till. Wait Staff Greet customers, take orders and serve their meals. Stove and Grill Prepare and serve hot food items. Kitchen Hand Wash and put away all plates, cutlery, glassware and kitchen equipment. Salad Hand Prepare and serve salads and garnishes. Barista Prepare and serve all hot drinks. These include cappuccino, café latte and mocha coffees. Each of these positions can lead to a specialised career in the hospitality field. Eligibility: Specific Age Groups, Early School Leavers. Structured workplace learning provides valuable industry experience for students and an opportunity for employers to view the skills of potential new employees. Career and Transition Support provides a range of career development and transition support activities. Adopt a School Program encourages businesses to "adopt" a school in order to give young people hands on industry experience. Provide Local Environmental Scan. Work with Industry to establish links, gain industry knowledge and facilitate participation to meet needs. Work with Local Community Partnerships to provide industry career information to year olds. Accessible to people from Non English Speaking Backgrounds. 12 Centrelink Multilingual Service (CMS) Organisation: Centrelink Phone: Website: Program Description: Centrelink provides free interpreter services for interviews and free translation of documents relating to Centrelink business. Multicultural Service Officers consult widely with local migrant and refugee communities on Government programs and help Centrelink improve its services. Centrelink also has regular broadcasts in many languages on SBS radio and on community radio stations across Australia. The main aims are 1) Build relationships and forge links, including with industries, to enable a flexible, responsive and seamless service for our customers 2) Enhance the employment and training opportunities for residents in ) Provide a forum where collaboration is encouraged and facilitated 4) Promote positive employment and education outcomes past, present and future 5) Develop responses to identified needs and respond to current and/or emerging opportunities. The Working Party coordinates an annual employment and education expo at TAFE NSW Miller College. TAFE Counsellors have an extensive knowledge of TAFE NSW programs and services, as well as other educational and vocational pathways and can help people with their educational and course planning. 14 change, personal problems such as depression and anxiety, financial assistance schemes such as Youth Allowance and referral to other services. Includes assistance finding and keeping a job or returning to work after injury or illness through client assessment (to identify specific vocational barriers and capacity), personal support (to help clients manage injury or disability), career planning and specialised job matching and placement. Also provide Occupational Health and Safety consultancy services to employers Eligibility: People with a disability and the unemployed. Areas within this environment include meeting targets and other objectives. Through Charity Computers we offer the community used computers ranging from Pentium 2 to Pentium 4 in both PC and laptops. These computers are donated to our organisation and then refurbished by our team here at Inspire Community. We also offer a screen printing service such as logo printing on t-shirts and work uniforms. Our aim is to create a professional business structure to allow people to gain appropriate skills to start a new business. Training packages are specially created to meet the needs of the individual. Courses are designed to increase clients confidence in areas where they may have experienced limitation before as well as enhancing skills already possessed by clients. The BEC provides free business guidance and services to assist small businesses to establish, grow and mature. In addition to the sessions small business owners and operators are able to attend free business seminars across Liverpool and Macarthur. Liverpool BEC encourages small business owners and operators to use this free service to give their business venture every opportunity to be as successful as possible. The program aims to help older people to seek employment. Each has a different need which is considered. This year MAX Employment will help more than 150,000 Australians achieve lifestyle and job related goals. Provides employment, health, training and consulting solutions. One of the largest employment service providers, operating from 74 offices and 40 outreach locations across Australia. New courses and programs are offered every month such as Work Experience, Work For the Dole, Job focus groups, Career Tracks, Meals In Motion. The course runs for 12 hours and addresses the common mental illnesses and applies the ALGEE strategy to crisis situations. 20 mental health problems, just as general first aid is not for people suffering a major injury.
