How to use this Guide This Course Enrolment Guide 2013 provides you with information on when and where the units available for study in this program(s) will be offered in Enrolling in units for Read Section 2. Program Information for information on course structure and unit sequence. Take note of any prerequisite or co-requisite requirements before selecting particular units. A prerequisite is a requirement that must be met by a student before enrolment in a stipulated unit. It is your responsibility to ensure that you meet the prerequisites for a unit prior to enrolling into that unit. A co-requisite is a requirement that must be met by having already passed or being concurrently enrolled in an associated unit in order to be able to enrol in the stipulated unit. If you wish to enrol into a unit for which you have not met the prerequisite or corequisite requirements, please obtain approval from your Course Coordinator. 2. Refer to the unit listings in Section 3. Units Offered in 2013 to select your units. Take note of the study period in which units are offered. 3. You must refer to Administration & Enrolment on the ACU website ( for information on how to complete your enrolment via Student Connect. Administration & Enrolment also provides detailed information on managing your studies. 4. Log on to Student Connect and enrol ( Student Connect is a web interface allowing students to complete their ACU enrolment online. IMPORTANT NOTE Failure to enrol or re-enrol before the published Due dates for re-enrolment on the ACU website may result in late fee penalties. Even if you are unsure of what units you need to enrol in, please ensure that you enrol or re-enrol in at least one unit before the due date. 5 3. Program Information The Bachelor of Human Resource Management is designed to provide the knowledge and transferable skills necessary to manage and sustain organisational human resources. This is achieved through innovative teaching and learning strategies that will demonstrate how to enhance organisational capabilities and assist the achievement of an organisation's goals in an efficient and effective manner. The degree seeks to strategically integrate various HRM processes such as recruitment, selection and retention, learning and development, managing diversity, work/life balance, inclusiveness, workplace relations, negotiation, occupational health and safety, globalisation, innovation, remuneration, and employee engagement. The focus of this degree is on student-centred learning experiences which encourage active engagement in real case scenarios, including ethical dilemmas and visions for the future. The Core Curriculum for students commencing in 2013 The Australian Catholic University Core Curriculum has been designed to focus on aspects of the University s identity and mission. The units emphasise critical judgment, clear expression, ethical decision-making and concern for others, as individuals and as a community. The Core is comprised of a total of five units: Two University Core units: All students in the Bachelor of Human Resource Management are required to complete the following University Core units as part of this program: UNCC100 Our World, Community and Vulnerability UNCC300 Understanding Self and Society: Contemporary Perspectives Two Core Curriculum Program units: These units build explicitly on the University Core units and all students in the Bachelor of Human Resource Management are required to complete the following Program Core units: BUSN110 Responsible Reasoning and Communication BUSN202 Professional Ethics One Community Engagement unit: All undergraduate students enrolled in a Business Degree course at Australian Catholic University participate in Professional Experience. Professional Experience is a series of up to three unique experiential units on offer to our Business students. The first Professional Experience unit is a mandatory, core foundation unit which all business students undertake in the second year of their degree. This unit focuses on the students personal development and is aimed at creating awareness of the importance of community engagement and the implications of individual and social responsibility as a business person. You may enrol in the First, compulsory unit of Professional Experience in either Semester 1 or Semester 2. There are two additional Professional Experience Units - worth 10 credit points each - these are elective units and may be taken by students after completing 120 credit points. For 2013 ISYS101 and ISYS110 have been combined into a new unit called ISYS111 Fundamentals of Business Information Systems. Students should enrol in ISYS111 if this is their first Information Systems unit. ISYS101 Fundamentals of Business IS is only for those students who have already successfully completed ISYS110. ISYS101 will not be offered after ISYS110 Applied Business IS is only for those students who have already successfully completed ISYS101.
