Accountancy Program Mission Statement The mission of the accountancy program is to develop accountants through the use of personalized, innovative teaching methods developed by faculty who are active in the production and dissemination of knowledge who have the skills to compete in a diverse and fast-changing global professional environment. Accreditation The University of San Diego (USD) is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. In addition, the School of Business Administration is accredited by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Further, the AACSB separately accredited USD s accountancy programs. Only five schools in California are AACSB accredited in both business and accounting. The University of San Diego USD has for more than 50 years been dedicated to providing a values-based education that recognizes men and women as creatures of God, and to the continuing examination of Catholic tradition in contemporary life. The university s 180-acre campus overlooks San Diego s Mission Bay and the spot where Father Junipero Serra celebrated the first Catholic Mass in Alta California more than 230 years ago. Bachelor of Accountancy The School of Business Administration offers a program leading to the degree of Bachelor of Accountancy. The program prepares students for careers in public accounting, accounting within industry, and governmental accounting. As noted below, the degree program allows students to select an option within the accounting component that fits their career goals. These options allow students to acquire accounting skills as a primary emphasis and skills from specified business fields that are highly related to accounting as a secondary emphasis. Students should consult with an accounting faculty adviser about their career goals before selecting an accounting component option. 3 Lower Division Prerequisites Lower-division requirements for the major are: 1. Third semester competency in a foreign language. 2. Completion of the following courses (22-23 units) with a grade point average of 2.0 or better with no grade below C- : ACCT 201 Principles of Financial Accounting ACCT 202 Principles of Managerial Accounting ECON 101 Principles of Microeconomics ECON 102 Principles of Macroeconomics ITMG 106 Information Systems ECON 216 Quantitative Business Analysis MATH 130 Survey of Calculus or MATH 150 Calculus I Upper Division Curriculum Business Component (24 units) MGMT 300 FINA 300 MKTG 300 ETLW 302 ETLW 311 DSCI 300 DSCI 303 MGMT 490 Managing People in Organizations Financial Management Fundamentals of Marketing Business and Society Business Law I Management Science Operations Management Strategic Management Accountancy Component (24 or 27 units) Students must complete the requirements of one of the following accountancy component options: Option 1: Accountancy Option (24 units) This option provides a primary emphasis in accountancy that is recommended for students who desire careers in public accounting and who plan on taking the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Examination. This option is also recommended for students interested in industry-related accounting careers where the Certificate in Management Accounting (CMA) is desirable. ETLW 312 Business Law II Option 2: Accountancy and Supply Chain Management Combination (27 units) in supply chain management. This option requires the following: BSCM 300 Supply Management BSCM 302 Supply Chain Management One of the following ACCT elective courses: One course out of the following: BSCM 303 Strategic Cost Management BUSN 377 Negotiation Any other BSCM prefixed course numbered above 303, including BSCM 494.
