Some have been traditional promotional items for a European Commission-funded project (such as flyers and brochures) while others have had a more merchandising approach. The printed promotional documentation has been created in much the same way as the training and course material in that in it is written in English (in the case of the flyers, by H3B Media) and sent to IRU, HSF, UNTRR and Cesmad Bohemia for translating into Polish, Romanian and the Czech Republic. Some of the later material will also be translated into Croatian in due course. An updated and polished version of the flyer was re-produced in January 2013 and re-printed and distributed. ERTICO and IRU worked on the new text and a new layout was produced and used for all new documents printed. The purpose of the traditional printed promotional material is to simply to explain to the uninitiated what ECOeffect is and what its ultimate aims are, as highlighted by the internal pages of the flyer (Figures 2 and 3). 3

Some have been traditional promotional items for a European Commission-funded project, with the ECOeffect flyers being the most widely produced item. The printed promotional documentation has been created in much the same way as the training and course material in that in it is written in English (in the case of the flyers, by H3B Media) and sent to IRU, HSF, UNTRR and Cesmad Bohemia for translating into Polish, Romanian and the Czech Republic. All material was translated into Croatian and French towards the project s conclusion. The first item produced by H3B Media was the original project flyer, designed to be handed out at all related transport events in Europe to promote the existence and goals of the project. An updated and polished version of the flyer was re-produced in January 2013 and re-printed and distributed. ERTICO and IRU worked on the new text and a new layout was produced and used for all new documents printed. The purpose of the traditional printed promotional material is to simply to explain to the uninitiated what ECOeffect is and what its ultimate aims are, as highlighted by the text on the cover of the flyer which had the theme TRAIN BETTER DRIVE BETTER WORK BETTER: ECOeffect is a focused training initiative to deliver measurable benefits to the trucking, freight and haulage communities through theoretical and practical courses. Our energy-efficient driving schemes and train-the-trainer modules deliver the means for the target markets to supply ECO-driver training. 4
5 ECOeffect will help you save fuel, save time and save money. Drivers will be less stressed, less tired and more productive. ECOeffect will help your company become more efficient. The flyers highlight the cost and CO 2 savings that ECOeffective companies can make and make reference to the fuel efficiency savings that can be made when the ECOeffect lessons are put into practice. Through the project s lifecycle, 4960 flyers were produced by H3B Media for distribution throughout Europe by the project partners. Typical distribution outlets for ECOeffect flyers have been Demo Tours, promotional events, trade shows and other green, sustainable transport-themed shows, seminars adn meetings. Copies of the flyers were also prominent in visitor waiting areas on the premises of the Academies. Figure 3: Internal pages of 2013 ECOeffect flyer H3B Media and ERTICO have also produced promotional material in non-traditional formats such as roll-up banners, pens, posters, t-shirts (figure 5), USB sticks, window stickers, Thermo-mugs for companies interested in ECOeffect, car/truck air fresheners for the drivers and ECOeffect balloons for Demo Tours. Whereas H3B Media has been responsible for designing, sourcing and printing of the majority of the material, ERTICO have sourced some of the items and printed them locally. Figure 4 shows the Romanian version of the ECOeffect roll-up poster. The Academies have, on occasion, produced ECOeffect-branded material on their own, without involving H3B Media or ERTICO. The quality of these items is not necessarily to the same standard as the items produced by H3B Media or ERTICO. 5

8 1.1. Work Processes The processes required for the production of the various promotional items is largely similar to that of the training material or other documentation. Work included: 1. Flyers two versions of four language editions (total of 4960 printed in four languages in 8 different batches in two designs) 2. Pens single language featuring logo and URL 3. T-shirts poor quality of material on initial order, more hours spent on sourcing new design. Back featured Have an Effect! in four languages 4. USB sticks time spent uploading ECOeffect content 5. Stickers windscreen stickers produced in English, Polish, Czech and Romanian 6. Document folders produced in all languages from original Polish design 7. Banners produced in various language versions 8. Flags produced in various language versions 9. Roll-up banners produced in various language versions. 10. Certificates two versions of IRU/ECOeffect certificates produced and printed during project duration The typical production cycle of an item of ECOeffect training material is as follows: 1. Raw text Word Documents received from project partner in varying levels of English (initially) 2. Often radical re-editing required to ensure good quality of English 3. Proofreading 4. Layout of document 5. Document sent to project partner/iru for checking and subsequent approval 6. Corrections taken in by H3B 7. New set of PDFs sent to partner 8. Process continued until both sides satisfied 9. Print resolution PDFs created and typically sent to local partners for printing 10. The same process was executed for the other language versions. 11. The workflow was often elongated exponentially by the approval process and an average of four versions per document was accrued. * * * * * 8
