1 Resetting Your Northwest Network Account Password on your Northwest-issued Notebook Computer Note: These instructions are not applicable for non-university computing equipment. To reset your password with the self-service password management software you must first be enrolled in the self-service password management system. Enrollment Key Points You will automatically be forced to enroll in the self-service password system the very first time you login to your campus-issued notebook computer with your Northwest Network Account username and password. Enrollment entails selecting 3 security questions and providing the answers. This security feature will aide you if you ever need to change your password or need to set a new password if you have forgotten your password. Note: First-time enrollment on a campus-issued computer is easy. Simply read the wizard directions carefully as you enroll. 2 Reset Your Password Steps on Your Campus-Issued Notebook Computer: To reset a password or unlock an account using the self-service password management software from the Windows Client on a Northwest-provided notebook computer, please do the following: Turn on your campus-issued notebook computer. When the Windows page appears, simultaneously press down the Ctrl, Alt and Delete keys on your keyboard. o Click the OK button to accept Northwest technology policies if that windows appears. Click the Switch User button below the login textboxes. Click on Click to reset Northwest password icon. Enter your Northwest Network Account username. o This is not your 919#, but is your assigned "S" number. 2 P a g e

3 Example: s Click the Next button. Enter a new Northwest Network Account password in the appropriate provided field. o Your new password must meet Northwest password criteria requirements. Your new password must be 8 to 16 characters long and contain at least 1 capital letter, 1 lowercase letter and 1 number. The password must not be one you have had previously. The password can not contain common words, sensitive numbers associated with your or your name. Other than the underscore symbol special characters are not recommended. Do not use the underscore symbol at the end or beginning of your password or you will get an error message. Example of an appropriate way to use the underscore symbol in a password: Evergreen_1 3 P a g e

4 Confirm your new password by retyping it again in the appropriate field provided. Do not do anything with the checkboxes! Click the Next button. Enter the answers to your security questions in the appropriate textboxes. 4 P a g e

5 Click the Finish button. o The screen will seem to freeze for a few minutes. Do worry and do not hit finish again. Simply wait. Hitting the finish button more than once may cause problems with the reset process. You will eventually receive a successful reset message or a non-successful message will appear. o Resetting your Northwest Network Account password with the self-service password software from the Windows Client will also update cached login information on the local computer. Cached login information allows you to login to your Northwest-provided notebook computer away from campus and keep the login password on your Northwest-provided notebook computer the same as the password for your Northwest , mynorthwest and NWMSU_Secure WIFI network. Note: The resetting process could take several minutes, so do not be concerned if the window with your password questions stays up on the screen for a while. If this happens, you can move your mouse, but cannot click on the buttons or exit the window. Simply wait and the process will complete appropriately. Additional Note: Once you have changed your password via the self-service password Reset feature, your password will be good for 120 days. If you decide you do not like the password you created, you will need to wait a full 24 hours before you can change your password. Once you receive the message that you have successfully changed your password, log back in to your notebook computer with your new password to ensure the password change took effect. o If you received an unsuccessful message, restart your computer and retry the change password process again.
