However, in most cases they are unable to determine exactly where costs are incurred and how to reduce them. The Sinergy range of sub-metering equipment enables our customers to determine exactly where their energy is going. Having accurately identified where there is waste, they can then make informed management decisions and take steps to reduce usage. What is sub-metering? Metering the total energy consumption of a site is important. However, this only provides an overview. Sub-metering gives detailed information about energy usage in specific areas e.g. by floor, department, building, tenancy. It can also pinpoint different applications such as heating, cooling, lighting or specific industrial processes; or any combination of area and application. Why install sub-metering? 6 Installation examples 200+ room hotel in London Customer objective To identify which application was using the most energy, thus allowing for an energy saving strategy to be implemented. The solution An Escot system was installed to measure the kw usage on final sub-circuits, such as lighting, power and HVAC. The system used an output to a Modbus RTU Adaptor to interface into the building management system (BMS) to identify where savings could be made. The results The customer was able to analyse and properly understand their energy usage. They have since gone on to implement energy saving policies that have helped them reduce their energy bills and lower their carbon footprint. Football stadium in the South East Customer objective To understand the power used by their lighting system across the complex, from meeting rooms to flood lights. The solution The customer installed a KLIK metering solution on individual circuits, which displayed the kw usage, utilising Sinergy clip-on transducers (CTs). They then took manual readings from the meters. The results The customer has identified areas of excessive electricity usage and implemented control measures to reduce unnecessary energy waste. 06

7 POWERED BY MARSHALL-TUFFLEX Food production factory in East Anglia Customer objective The Energy Manager was tasked to find out the cost of manufacturing each product unit, in carbon and kw. The solution An Escot system was installed and connected via USB to a PC, to identify the kw usage per production line. This enabled them to break down the data, which was delivered in CSV format, to product unit level. The results Data for each production line was analysed to determine the most cost-effective products to produce. This enabled the customer to make energy savings across the whole plant. Further Education college in Cheshire Customer objective To calculate energy used in each of their buildings and thereby eliminate waste, lower carbon consumption and increase their energy awareness amongst students. The solution A series of meters were installed to measure gas, water and electricity usage. Data was analysed to identify energy consumption from all sources, including their solar PV panels. The results The data collected was fed into the client s software and displayed within the reception area of the college. This helped to educate students, staff and visitors about their energy usage. 07
