4 Timeline for September 2016 Admission Sept. 21: Release of Information forms distributed and collected GOLD!! Sept : University Fair (Metro Convention Centre) Oct. 1: Parent Information Session (7:00 p.m. auditorium) Oct : Maclean s Student Life Expo Oct : College Fair (Exhibition Place) Field Trip on Tues., Oct. 20 th forms are available in Guidance

5 Timeline - Continued Early November Tutorials on the on-line applications available (most students don t need these) Mid to late November: University P.I.N.s available (College applications do not require P.I.N.s, just O.E.N.s)

6 Choosing a University/College Program Prerequisite course requirements: see The College Handbook, e-info, Calendars, and Liaison visit information (see dates on Guidance handout neon Green!!) Mark Cut-offs for Programs Additional Criteria (Portfolio, Interview, Testing, Resume, and/or P.I.F.) Size, Location of Institution Campus Visits Fall tours

7 Program Information is Critical Use College Handbooks, to find locations of desired programs Check prerequisite courses and mark cut-offs these vary with University/College desired See Calendars to find out specifics of programs Please make use of University/College Liaison Officers and Websites The SCHOOLS WANT YOU!!!!

8 The On-line Application Make sure selections have been made according to prerequisites and cut-offs Be sure to send any supplementary information/forms DEC 31, 2015 Recommended date (by us) to submit application(s) WITH FEE (OUAC - $150 for 3 choices Plus $50 for each additional choice) (OCAS - $95 for up to 5 choices with no more than 3 at any one College)

9 University Application Jan. 13, 2016 Latest date for on-line applications to OUAC (101 Application) Feb. 5, 2016 recommended last date for students to submit all information to the OUAC, including university and program (some Universities may have an earlier date) Late February - Early April Universities may make conditional offers of admission in selected programs. (Some offers are even earlier!!!)

10 Timeline -University May 5, 2016: Midterm marks forwarded to OUAC (sem I and gr 11 marks are already in) April/May OSAP information presentation in Guidance May 27, 2016 Latest date for Universities responses to Applications for Admission Responses may be: an offer of admission, admission to an alternate program, a refusal, or a deferral June 1, 2016 Earliest date by which Ontario Universities may require a response to a conditional offer of admission

11 What if I don t get accepted by May 27 th? DON T PANIC YET! Places will open as Universities determine the number of acceptances of their initial offers. Inform Universities directly about plans to upgrade marks at Summer School - make sure marks are forwarded to the OUAC and the Universities Late admissions are possible up to the start of the fall term but course selection/residence may be limited Check for details in July/August re: any open programs

12 College Application Feb. 1, 2016 Latest date to submit your application for equal consideration Feb. 1, 2016 Earliest date that Colleges can offer admission to students currently enrolled in high school (additional offers will be issued later). May 1, 2016 date by which Colleges require a response to an offer of admission June 15, 2016 Earliest date for payment of fees

13 What if I don t get accepted? Again, don t panic! Go to to find out which programs are still accepting applications or have waitlists (Use the FIND PROGRAM feature) Inform the Colleges and OCAS of any plans for upgrading at summer school Make sure that marks are sent to the Colleges/OCAS

Tuition $7500 (average StatsCan) Books/Supplies $800 - $1500 Residence with meal plan $ $10000 Co-op fees (if app) $400 - $1000 Incidental fees $800+ Miscellaneous $1000+ TOTAL (approx.) $ /yr Consult University Calendars (or online) for specifics

17 Post-Secondary Terminology Certificate Credential earned in under 4 semesters of College Diploma Credential earned upon completion of 4 semesters of College Advanced Diploma-As above but with 6 semesters of College Bachelor s Degree Credential earned upon completion of a 4 year University or College program

18 Terminology Continued Joint/Collaborative Program Four or five year program where a student earns credentials from a college and university Undergraduate Student A student in their first program at College or University Graduate Student A student who is working towards a second or advanced program such as a Master s or Doctorate degree Post-Entry Program A program at University where you must complete some University courses or even a full degree before you can apply (e.g. law,pharmacy, medicine,dentistry )
