1 BGM JH & HS NEWSLETTR - December 2015 Random Acts of Kindness Day On Friday, November 13, students celebrated "Random Acts of Kindness Day," spreading positive sentiments all throughout the halls and outside of classrooms, by placing encouraging notes on students' lockers and teachers' doors, working to make a difference in every person's day. Above Kelsey Lint and Derek Evans put their encouraging notes on lockers. Thanksgiving for the Nursing Home On Make-A-Difference Monday, which includes a short journal activity students complete at the beginning of class in Miss Routier's room, each ninth and eleventh grader, along with eighth graders in a "Careers" course, worked to create Thanksgiving cards that will be delivered to residents and workers at the Brooklyn Community Estates nursing home prior to Thanksgiving, expanding random acts of kindness from the hallways to the community. 3 December Kiwanis Outstanding Senior, Kenadie Fiebelkorn Semester Test Schedule Semester Tests will be given on Mon. Dec. 21 st & Tues. Dec. 22 nd The schedule will be as follows: Kenadie Fiebelkorn is the daughter of Stacie Fiebelkorn and Mike Fiebelkorn. She is a sister to McKenna and Kaiden. The Fiebelkorn family is active in the Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn and she is also a part of the ALPO Youth Group. In school Kenadie has been on the Honor Roll all 4 years, is a member of the National Honor Society and is a Ruritan Rising Senior. She is also a member of the BGM SADD program. Kenadie has been on the Bear s Dance Team for the last 6 years. Dance is a huge part of Kenadie s life and much of her free time is spent at the Dance Studio. She takes Tap, Clogging, Pointe, ballet and jazz. She also competes on the Studio 6 competitive dance team. If she s not at the studio, she likes to spend time with family and friends. Next year Kenadie plans on calling UNI her home where she wants to pursue a major in early childhood education with a minor in Special Education. When asked if Kenadie would like to thank anyone she said, I would like to thank all my teachers, coaches and family for all the support and for helping me become the person I am today. 6 BackPack Program Dear Parents/Guardians, BGM Community School District is partnering with the Northeast Iowa Food Bank to provide the BackPack Program to students during the School year. The program begins in September and will continue through the school year. The BackPack Program is a free program that provides kid-friendly, non-perishable food for students most in-need, to eat over weekends and breaks when school meals are not available and there may be little or no food to eat. Please carefully consider your family s economic status and determine if this program is something needed by your child(ren). If the BackPack Program is something your family could use, please complete the attached registration form. If you are able to make do without this assistance, please allow this program to be used by others. Items distributed in the BackPacks include cereal, peanut butter, shelf-stable milk, juice, fruit cups, poptop meals, soup, vegetables, and granola bars. The food will be distributed to your child at the end of the school day on Friday. Please explain to your child that the food must not be eaten or opened until they are home. If this happens, your child may lose the privilege of participating in the program. Parents and guardians concerned with food allergies need to be aware that BackPack Program items may include ingredients such as nuts, soy, wheat, eggs and milk. The Northeast Iowa Food Bank and BGM Community School District will not assume any liability for adverse reactions to food consumed. The Northeast Iowa Food Bank strives to include healthy and safe food. All food is labeled and sealed by the manufacturer. While some products might be past the marked best-by date, we have worked with the manufacturer to ensure they are still safe to consume. If you open an item and notice a problem, please contact the Northeast Iowa Food Bank immediately. If you would like to participate, please send registration form to school.
