The school calendar and the 5 day cycle calendar are available on the school web site. 2. The school newsletter is sent home on a weekly basis, usually on Friday. * 2

3 An english translation is available on 3. All other documents which the school receives are distributed as soon as possible to the families. * These documents are sent home by or via the youngest in the family. Other methods of communication : 1. The teachers will write notes in the student s agenda to give specific information. We ask that a parent or tutor reply to the note to indicate that the note was read. 2. When necessary, the teacher will request a meeting with the parents. METHODS OF COMMUNICATION USED BY THE PARENT/GUARDIAN Every parent/guardian can communicate with a teacher in any of the following ways: calling the secretary s office to set up an appointment; calling the secretary s office and leaving a message for the teacher to call back; sending an to the teacher whose address is provided in the school s web page at the following address: writing a message in the agenda; sending a note to the teacher It is imperative that the teacher be advised via the agenda or a note if there are changes to the transportation of the children. EXAM EXEMPTION POLICY (GRADES 10 TO 12) According to the CSAP policy P230-56, one exemption per semester will be allowed according to the student s choice and in consultation with the teacher as long as all evaluation assignments have been handed in and that the student has met the learning outcomes of the course. A student can only have one exemption per semester. All students must write the Nova Scotia Department of Education exams (Maths 10 and English 10). The student is responsible for: a) printing the request for exemption form available on the school website or asking the guidance councillor for a copy b) completing the form and having the form signed by his/her parents/guardians c) handing in the form to the teacher two weeks before the first day of exams. 3

4 INCOMPLETE WORK POLICY It is the responsibility of the student to hand-in assignments on time. It is important that our students understand the importance of respecting deadlines in each of their courses and that there are consequences for work that is late or not handed-in. Under certain circumstances, it may be possible for the student to have an extension of the due date for an assignment in consultation with the teacher and/or the principal and the parents/guardians. A plan will then be put into place for the student to finish his assignment or to write a test. This will be done with a contract which will be signed by the student, the parent and the teacher. If the new deadline as set in the contract is not met, the student will have to attend supervised work sessions during lunch hour to finish the assignment. After the work session, the student will hand-in what he/she has completed to be evaluated. As long as the assignment is not finished, the student will receive an I for incomplete. An incomplete may result in lack of evidence pour a passing grade for the course. RECYCLING In order to comply with the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg Recycling Center requirements, we will be proceeding as follows: what is sent to school in the lunch boxes will be returned home at the end of the day so that all recyclable containers may be rinsed and placed in your recycling bin. In order to prevent a huge mess in the lunch box, a Ziplock bag should be placed in the lunch box so that the children may store the items in the bag when they have finished eating. In order to comply with the LRCRC requirements, we have adopted a new procedure, one that other schools have also adopted. What is sent to school in the lunch boxes will be returned home at the end of the day so that you may rinse the plastic containers and place them in your recycling bin. In order to prevent a huge mess in the lunch box, we recommend that a plastic bag be placed in the lunch box so that the children may store the items in the bag when they have finished eating. SCHOOL CLOSURE If the school needs to be closed, for whatever reason, here is the procedure: Announcement very early in the morning on the radio, CKBW Bridgewater, CBC Halifax and Radio-Canada. Please verify that the radio does mention Centre scolaire de la Rive-Sud or sometimes the «French School in Cookville. The announcement will often be made on the TV channel ATV (Breakfast TV). Message on the school answering machine confirming the school closure If necessary, the emergency pyramid is activated 4

5 On days when the school must be closed after the students have arrived, we will activate the emergency pyramid. It is very important that we have all contact numbers for all adults who can take responsibility for the children in these circumstances. We will also announce the school closure on the radio. Please verify that the radio does mention or sometimes the «French Acadian School in Cookville». DISCIPLINE ON THE BUSES All discipline issues on the bus are the responsibility of the school principal and the bus driver. It is the driver's responsibility to ensure order on the bus. All students must demonstrate exemplary conduct and be respectful of the bus driver during the ride to and from school. If there are problems or questions please communicate with the following people, in the order stated: 1. the principal of École de la Rive-Sud ( ); 2. Assistant-superintendant for the CSAP central region ( ); 3. Superintendant for the CSAP ( ). In case of an emergency, you can reach Étienne Côté, manager of operations at SCHOOL DISCIPLINE CODE GRADES PRE-PRIMARY TO 6 5
