4 2) OUR COLLEGE 2.1) The Tripura Medical College & Dr. B.R.Ambedkar Memorial Teaching Hospital is situated at Hapania, West Tripura about a distance of 7 km away from the heart of the capital city of Agartala & 1.5 km away from Agartala Railway Station. It is well connected with the city by road transport. The area is free from noise, overcrowding and pollution. The 1 st batch of MBBS students was admitted in 2006 after obtaining permission from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India on recommendation of M.C.I. On detailed inspection and reviewing the performance of the Institution, the MCI has permitted for opening of P.G. courses (MD/MS) in the disciplines of Pharmacology, Pathology, General Medicine and ENT and accordingly the 1 st batch students on P.G. courses in the stated disciplines were admitted from the academic session The hospital, classrooms and laboratories are well equipped. Sports facilities including gym are available for the students. All faculties together with technical & non technical staff are devotedly working to promote the College & Hospital to the nation s standard. A well equipped Central Library with a space of 1600 sqmt. and more than 9000 books is one of our assets. All departments have separate libraries. 5 3) OUR TEACHING HOSPITAL This is a full fledged hospital named after the illustrious Dr. B.R.Ambedkar. The hospital is situated in the same complex with the college having all necessary clinical departments including 24 hours Casulty / Emergency services and well equipped special units. The special units namely ICU (Intensive Care Unit), SICU (Surgical Intensive Care Unit), GICU (Gynae Intensive Care Unit), Medical ICU, Ortho ICU, have 50 additional beds. Central Oxygen supply is maintained round the clock in the hospital wards and the ten major operation theatres. The bed occupancy rate in the hospital is about 75%. 6 4) ADMINISTRATIVE SET UP Tripura Medical College & Dr. B.R.Ambedkar Memorial Teaching Hospital is managed by the Society for Tripura Medical College & Dr. BRAM Teaching Hospital registered under Societies Registration Act, The Governing Body is the decision making level for proper running and development of the Institution. The Secretary (Holding Charge of the Health Department), Govt. of Tripura is the Chairman of the Governing Body of the Society. The Chief Executive Officer is looking after the day to day management of the Institutions under the Society. For day to day academic purposes, Principal is assisted by the Teachers Council of the College. 5) ADMISSION PROCEDURE FOR POST GRADUATE DEGREE COURSE ( ) MCI has issued Letter of Permission dated for starting of Post Graduate Degree Course (MD/MS) at Tripura Medical College & Dr. BRAM Teaching Hospital, Agartala under Tripura University (A Centra University) u/s 10A of the IMC Act 1956 from Academic year as noted below: Discipline Pharmacology (MD) Pathology (MD) General Medicine (MD) E.N.T (MS) Annual Intake 01 (one) Student. 01 (one) Student. 02 (two) Students. 01 (one) Student. In pursuance of the Post Graduate Medical Education Regulations;2000 read with time to time updatation on it, the Permanent Committee headed by the Hon ble High Court Justice Mr. A.B. Pal (Retired) to oversee the Fairness & Transparency in respect of admission process constituted as per the direction of the Hon ble Supreme Court of India has decided as noted below: 5.1) DISTRIBUTION OF SEATS FOR THE ACADEMIC SESSION : A) To be nominated by the State Govt.: (i) Pathology 01 (one). (ii) General Medicine 01 (one). (iii) E.N.T 01 (one). B) To be selected by the Management (Society) : (i) Pharmacology 01 (one). (ii) General Medicine 01 (one). State Govt. will nominate the candidates as per their own guided policy. If no qualified candidates are available under the State Govt. quota then the vacancy will be filled up from the Management (Society) listed candidates in order of merit of Entrance Test result. All of the Seats noted above are to be filled up from the State Domiciled Candidates having Permanent Residence of Tripura Certificate only. The Tripura State Reservation Policy (for ST & SC) shall be applied in course of filling up. Reservation of seats shall be maintained as a whole but not discipline wise. (4)

7 5.2) ELIGIBILITY TO APPLY: i. A candidate must possess MBBS degree from a Medical College recognized by the Medical Council of India with affiliation to a University approved by the U.G.C. ii. The candidate should have Provisional/Permanent Registration Certificate from the State Medical Council iii. The Internees may apply but must have completed the required period of 12 months compulsory Rotatory Internship Training on or before 31 st March ) HOW TO APPLY: The willing candidates will download the prescribed Application Form from the websites: or and will submit within the stipulated closing date along with documents/copies of the certificates etc and the prescribed application fee of Rs.3000/ (Rupees three thousand) only by Demand Draft in favour of the Society for Tripura Medical College & Dr. BRAM Teaching Hospital, Agartala. The candidates working under the State Govt. must apply through proper channel with an advance copy (including documents scheduled to be enclosed along with application fee by Demand Draft of Rs.3000/ only) so as to reach to the Office of the Principal within the stipulated period. 5.4) METHOD OF SELECTION: There shall be one common written Entrance Test for both categories of candidates under State Govt. quota and Management (Society) quota seeking admission to the P.G. Degree courses (MD/MS) of Tripura Medical College. The said written Entrance Test will be conducted for the eligible candidates under supervision of the Permanent Admission Committee headed by the Hon ble High Court Justice (Retired). On the basis of Entrance Test (written exam) result one common merit list shall be prepared. The rank of the candidates qualifying in the written test will be determined on the basis of the marks obtained in order. As regards eligibility criteria, the MCI guideline provides that 50% marks in the Entrance Test for the Post Graduate Degree Courses shall have to be obtained by a candidate. However, in respect of the candidates belong to the ST/SC category, the minimum percentage of marks shall be 40%. In case of two or more candidates obtaining equal marks in the Entrance Examination, their merit will be determined in order of preference as under: i. Candidates obtaining higher aggregate marks in all the MBBS Professional Examinations. ii. According to age, the older one getting preference over the younger one. Selection will be made entirely on the basis of merit in order of the candidates. (5)

8 5.5) ABOUT THE ENTRANCE TEST: The question papers will be in English language only. 1. Total marks of the Entrance Test : Type of questions: Multiple Choice Questions (Single Response type) covering all the subjects taught at M.B.B.S. level. 3. Total Questions : 100 (each question carries 1 mark) 4. No negative marking. 5. The candidates are to follow the local press advertisement as well as notification in the website of the Institution. ii) A Candidate will have to appear in person before the selection committee on the date of counseling; otherwise she/he will be marked absent and her/his candidature will stand cancelled. All selected candidates must submit their written attendance in time (by11:00 am) on the date of Counseling. iii) The Candidate will have the right to choose any one of the available seats at his/her rank at that point of time and the same will be allotted him/her, if other applicable criterias permit. iv) The allotment of seats, once made will be firm and final. v) In case of selection process the decision of the Permanent Committee headed by the Hon ble High Court Justice (Retired) will be treated as final. vi) No extension of admission time will be allowed under any circumstances. 9 8) The Candidates who appear for counseling will have to bring the following documents in original along with attested copies of all relevant documents: i) Admit Card of the Entrance Test. ii) iii) iv) Pass Certificate of the SSLC / Madhyamik Examination as proof of age. 10 9) FEE STRUCTURE The Permanent Committee headed by the Hon ble High Court Justice (Retired) to fix the fee structure for admission in Tripura Medical College & Dr. BRAM Teaching Hospital has kept the fee structure of the PG Degree Course for the academic session as same fixed for the academic session as noted below: Sl. Pharmacology Rs. 10,00000/ Pharmacology Rs. 10,99,110/ In case a student is retained beyond schedule of training period for whatever the reason may be, he/she shall have to pay forthwith the fees as proportionality applicable for the additional duration. No admission shall be allowed without deposit of Bank Guarantee to the tune of Rs. 20 (twenty) Lakhs. In case a seat is vacated while pursuing the PG Degree Course the candidate shall have to pay Rs lakhs (Rs.twenty lakhs). For this the candidate has to submit the said Bank Guarantee of the like amount at the time of admission to realize the amount. In case a candidate fails to pay fees while continuing the course the Bank Guarantee shall be available for realization of fees. Stipend shall be paid to Post Graduate Degree students as per the rules prevailing in Government of Tripura. (8)

11 10) GENERAL ACADEMIC INFORMATION 10.1) DURATION OF COURSE : The period of training for obtaining Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) / Master of Surgery (M.S.) shall be three completed years including the period of examination. Provided that in the case of students, possessing a recognized two year post graduate diploma course in the same subject, the period of training, including the period of examination, shall be two years. 10.2) INSTITUTIONAL DISCIPLINE : Students are expected to observe absolute discipline in their conduct during the entire period they spend in the Institution. Failure to observe absolute discipline will invite appropriate disciplinary action: 1) Ragging in any form is prohibited and shall not be tolerated at all. 2) It is expected that all students shall dress, behave & conduct themselves inside & outside the College in a manner befitting for a medical student who shall one day become a respected member of the society. 3) They should be polite & considerate especially to patients and their relatives, fellow students, teachers and staff members of the College. 4) During class hours all students should wear a white full sleeved apron over their cloths throughout the course. 5) Use of mobile phones inside classrooms and examination halls by the students is strictly prohibited. 6) Consumption of alcohol, narcotics, smoking or any kind of intoxicants is strictly prohibited in the College & Hospital campus. 7) Any break of discipline or failure to carry out the orders of the Principal shall be dealt with strictly & might even result in expulsion of the student from the college and / or filing of an FIR at the police station. 8) The rules and regulations as prescribed and displayed in the Hospital should be strictly followed. 9) This is an Institution meant for higher learning and the objective is not only to impart class room teaching learning experience but also to build the character of the students and transform them into better human beings and responsible citizen of the country. 12 11) FACILITIES OF THE COLLEGE 11.1) Hostels : Hostel accommodation is available for all the P.G. students both for Boys & Girls. 11.2) Rules of Hostel : I. Seats shall be allotted at the time of admission. II. No boarder is allowed to change his/her seat or accommodation without permission of the Hostel Superintendent. III. Students are expected to observe absolute discipline in their conduct during the entire period they spend in the hostel. Failure to observe absolute discipline will invite appropriate action. IV. Smoking, drinking of alcohol and use of narcotics are strictly prohibited in the hostel. V. Ragging, in any forms, is strictly prohibited in the hostel. Tripura Medical College & Dr. BRAM Teaching Hospital follows a Zero Tolerance Policy towards Ragging. VI. All students must attend the roll Call daily at 6 P.M. No hostel inmate will be allowed to enter the hostel after 8 P.M. In case of any emergency concerned student should take permission from the Hostel Superintendent. VII. Students should take prior written permission (Night Pass) for leaving the hostel for over night stay. 11.3) Rules for Visitors of the Hostel dwellers : Visiting hours of the hostel : 4 P.M to 6 P.M daily. Students should meet the visitor (s) only in the Visiting Room in presence of a hostel staff. No visitor/guest will be allowed in the student s room,. 11.4) Sports Games & Cultural Activities : The Institution lays special emphasis on sports (indoor & outdoor) and cultural activities. A multi gym facility is available for all the students in the campus. (10)

13 11.5) Library Services : The Central Library with rich collection of books & journals is open for the students from 8 am to 8 pm. An extended outer Reading Room facility is provided till 11 pm. The library is provided with : Internet services Database of Medical websites E mail services CD ROM services Audio Video services Other services. 12) SAY, NO TO RAGGING 12.1) What is ragging : Any conduct whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of harassing, teasing, treating, threatening or handling with rudeness any other student, indulging in rowdy or indiscipline activities which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in a fresher or a junior or asking the students to do any act or perform something which such student will not in the ordinary course and which has the effect of cause or generating a sense of shame or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of a fresher or a junior student. 12.2) Awardable punishment for ragging : i) Suspension from attending classes and academic privileges. ii) Withholding / Withdrawing scholarship / fellowship and other benefits. iii) Debarring from appearing in any test / examination or other evaluation process. iv) Withholding results. v) Debarring from representing the Institution in any regional, national or international meet, tournament or youth festival etc vi) Suspension / expulsion from the hostel. vii) Cancellation of admission. viii) ix) Rustication from the Institution for a period ragging from 1 to 4 semesters. Expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring from admission to any other institution. x) Fine of Rs. 25,000/ to Rs. 1,00,000/ xi) xii) Collective punishment : When the persons committing or abetting the crime of ragging are not identified, the institution shall resort to collective punishment. Criminal Prosecution. Please Note : Ragging in any form is a punishable offence as per MCI regulations, 2009 and is strictly prohibited. Every guardian along with the candidate is to submit an undertaking in this regard at the time of admission that their word shall not be involved in ragging at any form. If anyone is found to be involved in ragging, he / she will be punished on recommendation of the Anti Ragging committee of TMC formed for that purpose. (11)

14 12.3) ANTI RAGGING HELPLINE: Anti Ragging helpline has been operational since The toll Free Ragging helpline Number is helpline@antiragging.net 12.4) ANTI RAGGING Regulations : Abetment to ragging, Criminal conspiracy to ragging, Unlawful assembly and rioting while ragging, Public nuisance created during ragging, Violation of decency and morals through ragging, Injury to body, causing hurt or grievous hurt, Wrongful confinement, Use of criminal force, Assault as well as sexual offences or even unnatural offences, Extortion, Criminal trespass, Offences against property, Criminal intimidation, Attempts to commit any or all of the above mentioned offences against the victim(s), Physical or psychological humiliation, All other offences following from the definition of Ragging.
