SECU "People Helping People" Scholarship Amount: $10,000 ($2,500 per year) Requirements: Attending a NC Public University, 2.5 GPA, Activities Resume, Personal Statement Deadline: March 8, 2013 MillerCoors Train and Gain Scholarship - $1,500 Requirements: Graduating from a Rockingham Co. HS, enrolling in one of the following programs from RCC: AC/H/R, Computer-Intrigrated Machining, Electrical Systems Tech, Electronics Engineering Tech, General Occupational Tech, Industrial Systems Tech; Must have a 2.0 GPA; financial need; character; essay; 2 letters of recommendation Deadline: March 11, 2013 Bob McGuire Memorial Child Support Scholarship Requirements: One parent must be a member of the North Carolina Child Support Council, Going to NC community college or university R. Flake Shaw Scholarship - Community College Requirements: For students planning on attending a community college with an intention of pursuing a career in agriculture or in an agriculturally-related field. Amount: $2,000 Whitlow-Osborne Scholarship Requirements: Rockingham County Students entering into an Emergency Services Curriculum at a community college, trade school, or technical institute Deadline: March 31, Words or Less Scholarship Requirements: Can answer the essay question in 10 words or less Amount: $2,500 Ulman Cancer Fund Requirements: The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults was established to support the financial needs of young adults whose lives have been impacted by cancer and are seeking higher education CFNC Forgivable Education Loans for Service Amount: Scholarship for Loans Requirements: Entering fields of nursing, teaching, allied health fields, medicine; provides financial assistance with agreement to pay back by either working for one year in an approved position in NC for each year funding granted, or in cash J.T. Minnie Maude Scholarship Requirements: Lives in Rockingham Co, displays academic achievement, financial need. 2yr School: 2.0 GPA (unweighted), 4yr School:2.5 GPA (unweighted) Deadline: April 6, 2013 URW Community Federal Credit Union Scholarship Requirements: Been a URW member for 12 months, 2 letters of recommendations, essay Deadline: April 12, 2013 Global Automotive Aftermarket Scholarships - $2,5000 Requirements: Full time students attending or planning to attend an accredited college or university or an ASE/NATEF certified postsecondary Automotive, Collision, HD, or Alternate Fuel program Deadline: March 31, North Carolina Bar Association Amount: $250 - $4,000 Requirements: Be a child (natural or adopted) of a NC law enforcement officer who was killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Requirements: 3.5 weighted GPA or 2.5 unweighted; 2 letters of recommendation NC A&T Aggie Impact Scholars Program Amount: Summer Bridge Program Requirements: Attending NC A&T in Fall 2013, GPA of 2.5, SAT scores (cr+m), ACT score of 17 or 18. The scholarship money must be used for full-time study at either an undergraduate college or university or an accredited technical/trade school leading to a certification or degree. First priority is given to kidney patients Signet Classics Student Scholarship Essay Contest Requirements: Essays must be submitted by a high school English teacher on behalf of students who write an essay on one of six topics for this year's competition book, 1984, by George Orwell. American Legion Legacy Scholarship Requirements: The scholarship application, for students who have a parent who died in active duty on or after September 11, 2001, must be postmarked by April 15. The amount of the scholarship varies, but the eighteen 2012 scholarship winners won nearly $3,000 each. 6 P A G E 6 Scholarships due in April, May Booker T Washington Heritage Scholarship Requirements: Attending Community College or 4 year college; GPA: 2.5; personal statement; personal resume Deadline: April 26, 2013 Kimberly Shea Norris Memorial Scholarship Requirements: 3.0 GPA, Attending a 4 year university, Must be a MHS Varsity Cheerleader OR majoring in Education Deadline: May 1, 2013 Nannie Norfleet Scholarship Requirements: 4 letters of recommendation; Essay; Children/Grandchildren of American Legion Auxiliary Unit given priority UNC-Greensboro Guarantee Scholarship Amount: Debt-Free Education (free ride) Requirements: The UNCG Guarantee is a scholarship program for high-achieving graduating seniors in North Carolina, whose families are of a low-socioeconomic status. This scholarship allows those chosen for the program to attend college without much financial burden and covers 4 years of debt free (or very little debt) education- including tuition, room and board.
