9 How to Add a Course Now WHAT TO DO: Show up first day of class minutes before class starts Bring materials to take notes and be prepared to participate Ask Professor if they will be adding any students You will given a LATE ADD CODE if the instructors gives you permission to add the course THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND: Once a class fills, being on the waitlist adds your name to a priority list Students often try to add classes on the first day If you do not have Financial Aid, you will need to pay your fees immediately Be patient, willing to participate in class, and willing to come back to a second class period to see if you can add
10 How to Add a Course Now CHECK LATE START COURSES Log-on to MY.MSJC to search for sections Pay attention to start/end dates Search Open Class List Check out to find online courses at other community colleges Apply online to be a student at the community college Consult the community college regarding registration procedures and prerequisites
11 How Can I Add a Course Now? Expand Your Course Selection Complete certificate or concentration courses Complete recommended preparation courses Complete major preparation coursework for transfer Review- What areas of General Education do you still need to complete? Check your catalog for classes that meet General Education requirements for OPTION A, OPTION B and OPTION C Educational Plans Are there sections open on other campuses? Check Banning, Temecula and our other sites

13 Preparing for Next Semester- What to do if you cannot enroll in courses If you do not register for the Fall 2011 semester, you will need to complete a student update in order to receive a registration date for the next semester, Spring Log-on to your MY.MSJC account.

15 Student Update 4 Click on Verify/Update Address 5 Update your address and phone number, then hit submit. 6 Click on Verify/Update Your Emergency Phone Number & Educational Goal 7 Update your emergency phone number & educational goal and then hit submit 8 Call or visit enrollment services to find out when your registration date and time will be for the following semester REMEMBER: Check your student regularly!
16 Planning for Next Semester Set up an appointment with a counselor to go over: Course recommendations for the next semester Transfer plans and/or semester-by-semester plans Courses needed for your major Clubs and organizations on campus Transfer requirements, policies and procedures College success tips Appropriate number of units to enroll in Time Management and Study Skills Check with the Counseling Center for a list of workshops covering topics such as: Transfer College Success Resume Writing Job Search Finals Prep Time Management

26 Learning Communities Learning communities are classes that are linked or clustered during an academic term, often around an interdisciplinary theme, and enroll a common cohort of students. If you drop one or more learning community course, you will be automatically dropped from ALL the other learning community courses. Please Note: Any student interesting in participating must attend a LCOM orientation. Check for orientation schedule as well as courses offered.

28 Honors Program *Pick up an application from the counseling department. Returning students Transcripts demonstrating completion of at least 12 units of transfer-applicable coursework at MSJC with a 3.3 GPA A personal letter responding to the questions in the application form Name of two faculty who will comment on behalf of your application to the program New students Official transcripts demonstrating a 3.5 or better GPA or SAT 1890 (of 2400), or SAT 1260 (of 1600) or ACT 28 (of 36) Letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor or principal familiar with your academic work Students returning to college after a period of time away from the classroom, a letter from an employer or community member who can attest to your work habits and motivation A personal letter responding to the questions in the application form Advanced consideration from transfer universities Priority Registration at the transfer institution Specific guidance on transfer requirements Attended conferences Scholarship Opportunities
