2 Analysis of Two Job Websites Technical Features First Job Website Analyzed: Monster.com Has a simple search engine and an advanced search Can choose between the options of searching for Jobs, Resumes, or Career Resources Has an option for employers to go to their employer website where they can list jobs, etc. Use of sections on page and bolding their headers This website is very user-friendly All you need to access this website is internet and a working smart phone, computer, tablet, etc. Rhetorical Features First Job Website Analyzed: Advertisement is present throughout the entire website Has hyperlinks throughout the page to link you to another related page The language is inviting, informative, and they inquire about what you like to do or wish to be apart of Has images located throughout the website The website is here to provide the viewer with a variety of job openings and anything related to receiving or applying for a job The information provided is professionally and practical at the same time On the webpage there are different sections dealing with different things but all relate to the job field The audience for this website is anyone looking to apply or list a job, resume, and tips on how to achieve your career goals The images, logos, etc. on this website relate closely to what is happening in that area of the website and the whole concept of the website together Overall View of Monster.com: The website Monster.com is overall a very organized, specific job website that strives to provide the viewer with a variety of job openings and anything related to receiving or applying for a position. The setup of the entire website is very user-friendly and provides many options for the viewer to choose from. With the division of the website home page, each section gives the viewer something else they may like to read about as well as keep the webpage looking professional and not cluttered. The sections include: Take Control of Your Career, Top Questions and Answers, and Helpful Resources. The simple search or advanced search gives the viewer the option to look for a broad aspect or to go into

3 specifics to find exactly what they are looking for. Not only can you look for a job while visiting Monster.com, you can also post your resume and view some tips on how to achieve your career goals. Following the lines of finding jobs, resumes, and career resources, employers can post jobs and look for resumes. Monster.com provides everything related to searching for a job for a variety of viewers. Our interpretation of Monster.com: In our opinion this website is ranked near the top to search for a job. It gives you access to many different options based on acquiring a job. The images on the webpage give it a more realistic and not so boring presentation. They give the person a visual aspect of what the text is all about instead of just covering the screen with words. Overall, we believe this website is very helpful to anybody looking to apply/list a job, resume, or find some helpful tips on how to excel in the work environment. How I use or could use this website: I just recently used Monster.com to search for a job and found it to be helpful. It provided me with lots of different options in the career field of my choice. You can search within a certain mile radius of your home as well which gives you an idea of where each company is located. I would recommend using Monster.com if you need help with anything when it comes to careers.

4 Technical Features Second Job Website Analyzed: Indeed.com Web job search engine Offers superior advanced search and refine functionality, also enable hyperlinks to navigate other relevant search filters like jobs, salaries, trends, forum etc. The trends tool allows users to graph data in its Trends area in terms of both absolute & relative growth/decline. The salary tool enables job seekers to find jobs that pay at least a certain salary. Enter an annual salary in the search box to find all jobs that Indeed estimates pay at least that much. Indeed's algorithm extracts salaries from all job listings containing this information - about a fifth of the total - and then estimates salaries for the rest. It saves the job seeker time they may have spent applying for jobs they couldn't afford to accept, and it also helps companies, because it limits applications from candidates who aren't in the position's salary range. Rhetorical Features Users of this website are job seekers and employees. The Language is informative and professional. Has highlighted logo but no image nor advertisements, also has simple interface that easy to use, therefore helps user concentrate on what they are looking for instead of being distracted by advertisements or other advice-giving articles. Includes a huge amount of jobs from every source; adding over 100,000 jobs per day to its index and it ranks all jobs strictly by relevance. Efficiently save time and energy for highlymotivated, practical users that have clear minds of what they are looking for. The ethos of this website is to construct an effective and efficient online job search engine for job seekers and employees. Users are easily able to drill down to a set of jobs or applicants that are an excellent fit for them. Enables users to search oversea job market of several different countries. Users have more options to save their searches by alert or RSS. Allows users permanently block jobs from a specific company or companies that they re not interested in Indeed.com receives job data in one of two ways: direct feeds from job publishers and indexing publicly available job data on the Web. When users click on a search result on Indeed, they are taken out of Indeed.com to the job listing on the jobsite.

5 Overall View of Indeed.com: Indeed.com is a powerful, time-saving job search engine. It searches jobs on job boards, newspapers, associations, and company web sites, including most of the Fortune 1000 companies, adding over 100,000 jobs per day to its index and it ranks all jobs strictly by relevance. Users can search for jobs all in one place, rather than having to visit all these sites independently. The targeted users of this websites are job seekers and employees. The interface and setup are very concise, there s only highlighted logo presented on homepage, no distracting advertisement nor pictures. This website provides advanced search features and refined functionality, such as the ability to find jobs with specific companies or to narrow results by radius around a location. The most effective way to search is to drill down so users are searching as narrowly as possible and getting to the right jobs. It enables hyperlinks to navigate other relevant search filters like jobs, salaries, trends, forum etc. It offers job postings of oversea job market that are located in several different countries. It also has very considerate settings, such as users having more options to save their searches by alert or RSS, and they can permanently block jobs from a specific company or companies that they re not interested in. This website saves time and energy for highly-motivated, practical users that have clear minds of what they are looking for. In all, this website gives job seekers the most powerful job search experience available in terms of comprehensiveness of coverage and relevance of the search results. Our interpretation of Indeed.com: In our opinion this website blended deep knowledge of job search behavior with the latest techniques in search engine design; it s a customized, unique job search system. It s impressing simplicity and abundant resources provide both job seekers and employees plentiful choices, and then help them to refine research with a set of functionalities. Because Indeed.com has the most comprehensive jobs index available on the Web and a very powerful search engine, job seekers are easily able to drill down to a set of jobs or applicants that are an excellent fit for them. In turn, this leads to a more targeted stream of candidates to companies. In other words, when job seekers apply to the top ranked jobs in their Indeed search results, the match between candidates and jobs is a lot better than other websites. Unlike other job search websites that are used as back-fill and ranked beneath its paid listings, Indeed.com gives job seekers the most powerful job search experience available in terms of comprehensiveness of coverage and relevance of the search results. How I use or could use this website: I like the resume tool of indeed.com as it lets me view other similar applicants resumes so I can know what I should pay attention to build my own resume and what will make me distinct from them. I would also recommend it to job seekers because this website is very professional and effective in providing information what people want to look for. 6 Compare and Contrast: When analyzing the websites of Monster.com and Indeed.com, we see many similarities between the two as well as differences. The first similarity we see between the two sites is the features offered on each. Both websites have search boxes presented in the middle of the screen and enlarged to stand out to the user interested in search for a job. Along the bottom right of the search box, each website offers an Advanced Search link where users can filter the listings they are interested in finding based upon the criteria they enter. This can be very helpful for users in the fact that this can help them save time by not being required to go through all the listings they are not interested in or qualify for. Lastly, both websites have very simplistic layouts and reduced clutter. Each website eliminates unnecessary pictures or other content on the sides of the webpage to help keep the focal point of the site on the search boxes. Though both websites have some similarities there are some differences to take note of. The first difference that we notice between the two websites is that Monster.com offers a whole section with links included on Career Resources where an applicant can read different articles from professionals, read Questions and Answers from previous applicants, etc., while Indeed.com does not. These articles that Monster.com offer have very useful information contained and can be helpful in educating the applicant and better fulfill the purpose of the website. While Monster offers the Career Resources information, one aspect that they are missing that Indeed.com includes is a brief description of each position when an applicant enters their search criteria and is looking through the listings. Indeed.com also includes a review next to each listing so people that have previously applied or have worked in that position before can rate that position for any new applicants that may be interested. This feature of giving a brief description and also reviews can allow users to quickly navigate through the listings and find the position that best fits their interests or needs. It can also be more resourceful for time compared to Monster.com which only gives the title of the listing and company causing the applicant to have to click on each link to view the description and then go back to the listings if they are not interested. While both websites contain very simple color structures, Monster.com has more of a pathos appeal by the two pictures located just beneath the large search box. The pictures include people smiling and a picture with the word Jobs. This gives the user a feeling of optimism by the images of people being excited on the webpage. While both websites have some differences, they are both great resources for a future applicant to explore.
