McGinty Endowed Scholarship Checklist of Applicant is an undergraduate student in Foreign Language OR is a doctoral student in Educational Leadership (based on academic merit and potential). B. Doctoral students must provide a brief (not to exceed 500 words) statement on how receipt of the scholarship will advance r research activities in r doctoral program. Please submit to Office of Special Program, G22 McKee or kpcorzine@wcu.edu. Please note that the doctoral recipient of this award must submit a short reflection paper to the Office of Special Programs by the first week of May. This paper should indicate the status of the recipient s research at that point and how the funds were used to help advance the research. D. Undergraduate modern foreign language students must use the funds to study abroad at a foreign university and provide documentation of study abroad intent. Please submit documentation to Office of Special Programs in G22 McKee or kpcorzine@wcu.edu. Note: During fall of even years, the recipient of this scholarship shall be a doctoral student in ELF. During fall of odd years, the recipient shall be an undergraduate in Foreign Language. The William and Patricia L. Ledford Endowed Scholarship Fund Checklist of Applicant is enrolled full-time at Western Carolina University majoring in Education Good citizenship and good academic standing with Western Carolina University (recipients are subject to all university policies and regulations applicable to students as stated in The Record, the Student B. Good citizenship/good academic standing with WCU * Eligible candidates must be nominated by the department head of the student s major at WCU and by one other faculty member in the department. This award does not follow the typical application process and only occurs through nomination. The Morrill Family Fund for Research in Education Scholarship Checklist of B. Applicants must be enrolled as full-time or part-time graduate students in a degree program in the College of Education and Allied Professions during the academic year in which the award is made The proposals must involve research that relates to the improvement of teaching at any educational level, and the award may be used to fund equipment, supplies, travel, and services C. Good citizenship/good academic standing with WCU Applicants must obtain the signatures of their research advisor and department head and submit the application form to the Office of Special Programs or kpcorzine@wcu.edu D. * The research must be completed by the end of the academic year in which the award is made. A written report describing the findings must be submitted by that time to the Selection Committee, the Dean of the College of Education and Allied Professions, and the Dean of Research and Graduate Studies-- recipients are encouraged to present their projects at the Annual Fall Graduate Research E. Symposium * Applications are due by the first Friday of October each year.

Applicant must have a declared major in Health, Physical Education and Recreation at WCU C. Applicant must have demonstrated academic excellence at the undergraduate and/or graduate level Must have and maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 or better and have no sanctions in force at the time of D. the award. E. Preference will be given to candidates with a career interest in the teaching of Physical Education F. The Mary Deck Break by the Lake Endowed Scholarship Fund Checklist of Applicant is enrolled as a graduate counseling student at Western Carolina University Preference given to students who are in their final semester, who have completed a minimum of 30 B. hours of coursework, and who are in field placement. Preference given to students who have demonstrated a commitment to professional development C. including presentation, service and involvement in community and civic activities. Preference shall be given first to junior or senior psychology majors, second to graduate psychology majors, and, finally, to junior, senior or graduate education majors at WCU (Sophomores can apply if will be a junior/senior by the following academic year. Awards are posted to student accounts the year following application) While financial need is not a prerequisite of this scholarship, this award is not intended for elite students. It is for those who are shining in spite of their circumstances. C.
