1 Society of Louisiana CPAs Shreveport Chapter Scholarship Application THE SOCIETY OF LOUISIANA CPAs SHREVEPORT CHAPTER scholarship was established to further the development of accounting education and the accounting profession in the Shreveport area. The amount of the Shreveport Chapter scholarship will be based on the amount of money raised from chapter events, such as monthly CPE meetings and the annual golf tournament. In 2013, scholarship amounts were approximately $1,000 each. The 2014 scholarships are expected to be similar in dollar amount. Qualifications Applicant must have a legal Louisiana domicile and intend to work / live in Louisiana upon graduation. Enrolled in an accounting program in a Louisiana four-year college or university when the application is filed. "Accounting program" refers to an "accounting major" or its equivalence. Completed at least 48 semester hours of college coursework, including 12 semester hours of accounting prior to the academic year in which the application is filed. Graduate or fifth year students working towards the 150-hour requirement may also apply. Applicant must be enrolled in an accounting course at the time the scholarship is awarded and be a full-time student (enrolled in 12 semester hours for undergraduate and 9 semester hours for graduate or its equivalent). Students who received scholarships in prior years may reapply for additional awards. Academic merit and achievement: Academic merit: Sponsorship by two accounting faculty members. See attached form on page 5. Academic achievement: 3.00 or better on a grading scale of 4.00 (overall), and; 3.50 or better on a grading scale of 4.00 (accounting only). A U.S. citizen, permanent resident (green card holder), or student visa holder. Indicate plans to sit for the CPA exam. 1

2 Application procedures and deadline Application and supporting documents must be postmarked by March 15, Scholarships will be awarded the Spring of Scholarships are awarded to offset expenses associated with a semester at a Louisiana university. Upon being selected for a scholarship, each student is required to submit the following: A signed statement to the Shreveport Chapter the scholarship funds will be used to offset college expenses such as tuition, fees, room and board, and / or books and materials. Evidence from the university (copy of receipt or other appropriate information) indicating proof of enrollment for the current or upcoming semester. Recipient must agree to submit an application for student membership for the Society of Louisiana CPA s before the scholarship is awarded. Failure to comply with the above will result in the Shreveport Chapter retaining the scholarship and awarding the funds to an alternate candidate. College transcripts Official or unofficial transcripts submitted with the application must be original documents. Official transcripts may be issued to the applicant and submitted with the application or mailed directly to the LCPA Shreveport Chapter by the university. Photocopied transcripts will not be accepted. All components of the application must be postmarked by the deadline date.
