1 Graduation: 4 Steps In 4 Years Make your four-year degree a priority by completing an average of hours of course work per semester (not including summer sessions) that will apply toward your degree requirements. Full-time status is defined by enrollment in 12 or more hours. Note: If you choose to be a part-time student, your degree will take longer than four years. Don t forget that you are required to have declared a major by 75 hours. Meet the grade point average and course requirements defined by your intended school or department. Some majors will require you to have completed specific coursework and earned a specific GPA prior to declaring a major. Work with your academic advisor to ensure that you will meet the admissions requirements for your program of choice by about 60 hours. During your sophomore year, begin to narrow your major options so that you can declare your major at least by the end of your sophomore year (60 credit hours). Utilize resources like Counseling Services and the University Advising Center to help you narrow your choices. Did you know you can receive credit toward graduation by: Taking courses during the summer sessions and interessions to stay ahead or to catch up. Taking external exams like Advanced Placement (AP), College Level Examination Program (CLEP), or International Baccalaureate (IB). Be sure to have scores sent to UT Arlington s Office of Admissions at edu/admissions and/or Testing Services at edu/testing. Completing correspondence course work or distance education and apply the earned credits to your UT Arlington degree plan. 30+ hours = sophomore hours = junior hours = senior 10
