Cinematic Arts Music Visual Arts Theatre Accept the Call. Perfect Your Art. Impact the World.
A Word From the Dean Imagine a bold vision for your future, in a place where you can train with outstanding faculty and distinguished industry professionals. A place where you can learn in state of the art facilities, connect to a vast network of professional artists, and collaborate with students from various artistic disciplines. A place where you can cultivate an entrepreneurial spirit that will fuel a sustainable career, and, most importantly, perfect your art while strengthening your faith. Dream of the possibilities! In this place you can work on major motion pictures with professional production companies and train with Dove and Grammy Award winning musicians. You can learn animation from a Disney animator, work with Broadway professionals on major theatrical productions, and curate art shows at our Open Gallery in downtown Nashville. You can develop the next big video game or mobile app, design for theatre, fashion runway shows, concerts, film and theme park attractions, and explore art from all over the world as a part of our Global Learning experience. Lipscomb University s College of Entertainment & the Arts is that place! We believe that you can honor God and be a leader in the entertainment and arts industry. Believe! We believe that you can honor God and be a leader in the entertainment and arts industry. Accept the call and perfect your art in a place that believes in you. Become a Believer Artist today! Mike Fernandez Dean of the College of Entertainment & the Arts Our Mission The mission of The College of Entertainment & the Arts (CEA) is to be a Christ-centered, innovative, entrepreneurial arts community committed to rigorous artistic training, creative collaboration and professional growth. We believe that you can honor God and be a leader in the entertainment industry. To that end, we seek to train the next generation of believer artists who desire to uplift, challenge and entertain culture through their art.
Visual Arts Nashville is your canvas. The Program Lipscomb s Department of Visual Arts is well connected to the Nashville art scene and has a trendy art gallery downtown. They offer undergraduate degrees in: BFA: Studio Art BFA: Graphic Design BA: Art Therapy I m excited to see the innovative direction that Lipscomb is planning to take their creative/artistic schools in the future. I ve worked on over 10 animated feature films for Disney and Big Idea productions and have had the opportunity to lecture at many art schools around the world, and one of area I have been disappointed in many of those schools is the lack of a vision to get the BEST instructors, equipment and programs to teach their students. Lipscomb is doing just that: preparing the next generation of industry professionals to impact the world with their God-given abilities and their passion to share their faith to a world in need of the Good News. Tom Bancroft, Former Disney Animator Lipscomb art classes are small, enhancing one-on-one interaction with accomplished instructors. The John C. Hutcheson Gallery showcases the work of artists, both student and professional. Timeless art meets cutting edge techniques in the visiting artist program where Lipscomb welcomes artists on campus for two and three day events, showcasing their work and presenting lectures. Students earning a BFA in studio and graphic design step outside school for an internship that takes their work into the professional world, with an opportunity to build their portfolio. This is one of the many reasons that more than 85 percent of graduates have accepted a job or are on their way to grad school within six months of graduation. The New Degrees for 2015! The Interactive Media Program This interdisciplinary initiative comprised of the College of Computing and Informatics, the College of Business, and the College of Entertainment and the Arts will bring coders, story developers and animators together in the ultimate 21st century convergence model to offer degrees in fields such as: gaming, animation, and web app development. Students will be able to get undergratuate degrees in: BA: Animation BA: Game Development BA: Web Application Development For More Information: art@lipscomb.edu art.lipscomb.edu
Cinematic Arts Direct your own future at Lipscomb. Nashville has built its reputation over the years as a city that values collaboration, and it s now one of the world s preeminent destinations for entertainment and the arts. The time is right and ripe for Lipscomb University to build a collaborative institution that brings entertainment and the arts together under one roof to train world-class, world-shaping artist entrepreneurs. Steve Taylor, Filmmaker and Recording Artist The Program The Department of Cinematic Arts offers highly esteemed graduate degrees in film making. MA: Film and Creative Media MFA: Writer/Director Track MFA/MBA: Producer Track The department has worked on two feature films and a series of commercials and promotional videos. Their films have been seen in the Nashville Film Festival and the 48-Hour Film Festival. The school is launching an undergraduate minor this year that will pave the way for a full undergraduate degree in The New Degree for 2015! The Film Production Program This program will be an extension of our graduate program. Students will learn to write, direct, film, and edit various types of digital entertainment content through an undergraduate degree in: BFA: Film Production Production Company The department also has its own production company that makes content for on-campus entities and local companies. Go to our website to see our FCM Hero promo, our CORE promo and our admissions promo for a sample of our work and a glimpse into the future. 5 Music Find your voice in Music City. Lipscomb University first caught my eye in a fresh way when I read that Pulitzer Prize-winning author Marilynne Robinson would be headlining their scholar s conference. Then my theologian friend, Lee Camp, came up with the idea for Tokens, a radio-style variety show, and it took flight with great success as has the wonderful Blackbird Theater... There s a collective inspiration and responsibility on campus to be Christcentered, imaginative Nashville citizens alive to the multitude of entrepreneurial opportunities before them, and that is exciting! The Program Lipscomb s Department of Music has a great reputation for classical training, offering three undergraduate degrees: BA: Music BM: Performance, Composition, or Education Performance Tracks: Vocal, Piano, and Instrumental BS: Music Music students sharpen their skills in one of the many ensembles as Lipscomb: Jazz Band, Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra, A Cappella Singers, Wind Ensemble, University Singers, Opera Workshop, New Music ensemble, and small chamber groups. The department also offers minors in Worship Ministry and Musical Theatre. Their faculty, adjuncts, and guest musicians (many from the Nashville Symphony) fill an impressive calendar of performances, master classes and studio lessons. The New Degree for 2015! The Contemporary Music Program This program will train students in all aspects of contemporary, creative music making. They will train singer/songwriters, producers, composers, etc. The program will be highly connected to the Nashville music scene and will focus on training independent, entrepreneurial artists. Students will also train in a dual-degree setting where they pair another field that will help them achieve job security. BM: Contemporary Music Singer/Songwriter Track or Music Production Track Charlie Peacock, Music Producer and Songwriter For More Information: music@lipscomb.edu music.lipscomb.edu
Theatre Express your passion on a larger stage. The confident theatre artists that are emerging from Lipscomb University, including technicians, actors, directors and designers, are already enriching the local professional theatre community. I have no doubt that Lipscomb University will be a consistently recognized source of worldclass talent. Denise Hicks, Executive Artistic Director for the nationally acclaimed Nashville Shakespeare Festival The Program Lipscomb s Department of Theatre is known for top-notch training and award-winning theatre throughout Nashville. Lipscomb offers undergraduate degrees in: BFA: Musical Theatre BFA: Directing BFA: Acting BFA: Design Technology BA: Theatre Education BA: Theatre Ministry The curtain goes up on at least six main-stage productions throughout the year including a musical each fall, a children s play each spring, and two professional productions by the department s artist-in-residence, Blackbird Theatre Company. Auditions and competitions away from school, such as the American College Theatre Festival (ACTF) or the University Resident Theatre Association (URTA) brings honors to students and helps them find either a place in grad school or a professional position after graduation. The New Degrees for 2015! The Fashion and Design Program This program will blend the current Fashion Merchandising and Interior Design degrees with the Theatrical Design degree. In this program, students will cross train in all aspects of fashion and entertainment design. The Dance Program Students can get a minor that trains them in various forms of dance (Tap, Jazz, Modern, Ballet, etc.). Students also have the opportunity to try out for Foundation Dance Theatre, the department s student-run dance company. For More Information: beki.baker@lipscomb.edu theatre.lipscomb.edu
