1 INDUSTRIAL DESIGN PORTFOLIO. COMBINED PORTFOLIO OF THE PARTICIPANTS OF STUDY TOUR TAI NAWI
2 PREFACE. This portfolio consists of the work of industrial design students who will be participating in the study tour. Study Tour Tai Nawi will set to Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Shenzhen in May This portfolio is a representation of the level of the industrial designers and a representation of the different skills industrial designers acquire during their study. The images in this portfolio are actual projects of students. Each image is accompanied with a short description of what it is and who created it.
3 CONTENTS. PROJECTS. DRAWINGS. CAD/CAM. GRAPHIC. PROTOTYPE Finished solo or group projects Sketches and drawings used during the design process or at the end to show the result Computer aided design and manufacturing. Graphic design comprising posters, typography, and infographics. Realised mockups or working models.
4 PROJECTS. The study Industrial Design at University of Twente has a variety of projects. Projects teach students to work together in a team or with a client. Most projects are team-based design projects, starting with an analysis on the design case and the target audience and ending with a prototype or realistic product rendings. The projects give practical experience to the students.

7 DRAWINGS. Sketching is on the base of industrial design. The ability to create ideas using just a pen and a piece of paper is one of the most important things a designer should be able to do. The multiple courses during the Bachelor study teach the students to create quick sketches. Besides explaining ideas quickly, drawings can also give insight into a product. The looks of a product can be explained through realistic rending of materials, perspective, proportion, and usage. Sketching and drawing are versatile ways of explaining product ideas without having to put in a lot of time.

11 CAD/CAM. CAD stands for Computer Aided Design. Students get to learn some CADprograms to help them taking ideas to a more concrete level. SolidWorks is taught to all students in their first and second year, to create solid models that can be used for manufacturing. The use of these software programs has multiple advantages. Since the software doesn t allow for random lines, the whole model has to be specified in terms of dimensions. This way of creating products, enhances the way students think about design and in doing so, a better understanding of the manufacturing of a product is created. CAD/CAM software also allows for realistic renders of products without having to go through the trouble of producing it.

15 GRAPHIC. Graphic design comprises many things. Readability of texts, such as reports, business cards, posters, and websites is way to provide a better user experience. This also goes for layout. Graphic design can steer users in a certain direction by using layout, images, and texts. Infographics are used to provide a product explanation through images.

19 PROTOTYPE. Prototypes are indefinitie versions of designed products that can be built for several reasons; the looks and feeling of a product can be shown with a prototype. Especially physical ergonomics can be tested this way, and the design can be changed to provide a better user experience. A prototype can be build solely for the purpose of looking at it, but also solely for testing of the idea works.
