1 KS3 Homework - Art Department Year 7: Term 1 Myself and Others 1. Collect together magazine / newspaper images of the human face. Look for the biggest you can find. Bring what you have gathered to your next art lesson. Keep the images flat. 2. Make a detailed drawing of one of your favourite objects at home e.g. an object in your bedroom / music instruments / sports gear / food / clothing. Closely observe and describe the real thing. 3. Make drawings of members of your family / friends. Ask them to pose for you. Make sure you that you fill one page in your sketchbook. 4. You have seen some examples of Vincent Van Gogh s portraits / self portraits during your art lessons. To extend your knowledge visit the website Fill one page of your sketchbook with your findings about his portraiture. You can include colour print off, no more than then two in colour. Include the Title and Date it was made. Add interesting facts about his life and portraiture work e.g. Why he painted so many self portraits? Who else he painted? You might like to make some small sketches of his portraits and try to describe his technique. 5. Fill a page of your sketchbook with features of the human face i.e. eyes / lips / noses / eyebrows. Include both drawings and collections from coloured magazines. Experiment with a variety of drawing materials e.g. graphite pencil, coloured pencils and soluble coloured pencils. 6. Collect portrait images of heroes / heroines historical as well as modern day. Look in newspapers, magazines and the internet. Some need to be a full face and quite large A4 /A5 size as you might later be using them for a practical activity in your art lesson. 7. Complete your evaluation of the work you carried out for MYSELF AND OTHERS. Other additional information to support your homework activities will be on Fronter.

2 Year 7: Term 2 The Matisse Project 1. Use the internet to research Henri Matisse Interiors and Still Life paintings. Select and print off an example from each subject (make a note of the title and date of the works you have selected). 2. Find out when and where Henri Matisse was born and when he died. Write a short paragraph researching one major historical event in his life time in Western Europe. 3. Carry out a detailed graphite pencil drawing of a plain light coloured or white cylindrical object e.g. cereal bowl, coffee mug / cup. Carefully describe tone. 4. Collect and make a collage on one A4 page of your sketchbook using examples from patterned fabric, wallpaper and magazines. Remember that there are resources in the Art Department that you may use to assist you. 5. Examine patterned objects in your home e.g. curtain, rugs, cushions and crockery i.e. cups and saucers / plates. In colour, fill one whole page of your sketchbook, describe through drawing the variety of patterns you have found. 6. Create your own Still Life group. Make a pencil drawing of your arrangement. 7. Make a drawing of an interior in your own home e.g. your bedroom or living room include the window. Include colour.

3 Year 8: Term 1 Pattern in Nature 1. Complete your mindmap and title page as directed by your art teacher. 2. Make a detailed graphic drawing from close observation of the inside of one of the following: a cut tomato, pepper, kiwi fruit, orange or any other interestingly patterned piece of fruit or veg. 3. Make careful rubbings of autumn leaves, as you collect the leaves press them in a book. Use a wax crayon or the side of a pencil. Work on photocopy paper. 4. Use the photocopied example to extend the design as you would imagine it should be. Add three colours of your own choice to complete this work. 5. Use the internet to find an example of Art Nouveau. Print out this image and stick onto one page of your sketchbook. Answer the following questions: Name of the artist / designer / crafts person Name of the piece Date of the piece What media they did to use to create it Why do you think this piece is an example of Art Nouveau? 6. Complete an evaluation when you have finished your project use the prompt sheet.

4 Year 8: Term 2 Pop Art 1. Research the work of the following Pop Artists: Claes Oldenburg, Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol. Select and bring in one colour example of their artwork and don t forget to make a note of the title and date the works were made. Include one example of a 3D work. 2. Make a detailed graphite pencil drawing of a tooth brush and tube of tooth paste. 3. Find out how Op Art influenced the fashion world in the 1960s. Record through written notes and images to later be presented in your sketchbook. 4. In your sketchbook or on printing paper create, through drawing a Knickerbocker Glory in full colour using colouring pencils / felt tips.

5 Year 9: Term 1 Change your style 1. Complete the title page that you began during your art lesson. Combine words and images that relate to the theme. The title Change Your Style should stand out in your overall design. 2. Make a detailed drawing from close observation of a personal accessory e.g. a hat, necklace, earring (enlarged), spectacles, sunglasses. 3. Use a family member / friend / magazine / newspapers to make drawings of interesting heads-back, front, side view. Look for stylish hairstyles and accessories. 4. Complete any development work in your sketchbook. Ensure that all pages are well presented e.g. make sure your work is fully annotated that visual work is complete with no blank spaces or crossings out. 5. Carry on with artists research as directed by your art teacher on Fronter. 6. Complete an evaluation when you have finished your project use the prompt sheet.

6 Year 9 Term 2 Surrealism 1. Research the work of the following Surrealist artists: Salvador Dali, Rene Magritte, Max Ernst and Man Ray. Find out when and where they lived and worked, select one example of their work to print off in colour. Make a note of the title, process and date. 2. Find two objects from around your house that would be seen to be oddly placed together e.g. Toothbrush and a shoe, shampoo and a piece of fruit, hairbrush and a tin of food etc Make a detailed pencil drawing from close observation. 3. Find various textured surfaces from around and about e.g. wood, brickwork, drain covers etc Use printing paper and colouring pencils to take rubbings, bring to your next art lesson. What do the marks remind you of? 4. Surrealist artists liked to explore random effects in their art work. Try closing your eyes and letting your pencil wander over your A4 printing paper. Rather like taking your pencil for a walk! Fill in the patterns with bright colours and bring into your next art lesson.
