Prototype - A prototype is an early sample, model, or release of a product built to test a concept or process or to act as a thing to be replicated or learned from. It is a term used in a variety of contexts, including semantics, design, electronics, and software programming. Prototype:A life sized scale 1:1 working model of a design requiring testing, development and evaluation.

Block Modelling: These help to determine the shape, dimensions and surface finishes by constructing an accurate representation/model of the final product. The external surface should show all details that would be present on the final design. As the name suggests block modelling is made from a solid block so the prototype/model will not contain any internal detail or moving /working parts. 6 Learning Block Modelling Materials Outcomes for To understand marking criteria of context of section A of Covering any Errors Filler can be used on any model to cover over any mistakes. This sticks itself to the model and allows you to finish the filled in section with sandpaper. Filler will also take any finish you plan to apply to the overall model design. Finishing Block Models The model needs to be finished to a high standard. It will firstly need to be finished using various files and rasps to finish the design to its final shape. Secondly sandpaper needs to be used. You will need to use various grades from rough to extremely smooth to ensure a quality finish. The colour and material finish can the n be added either with paints or spray paints. This provides a quick drying coloured finish that can provide different finishes including gloss, matt, satin, coloured and clear. Block Modelling using CAD/CAM A model can be manufactured once a detailed 3D drawing has been produced on an accurate 3D drawing package. The design can then be sent to a CNC machine where the design is transferred into a series of numerical code. The CNC machine then uses the code to manufacture the 3D model. The process is accurate and fairly quick. However, training is required to draw the design and operate the machine combined with high set up costs.

Producing a Block Model The foam is supplied in rectangular blocks which can be cut easily using both hand and power tools. The best way to approach this type of modelling is to build your shape up from smaller blocks rather than cutting away from a large block. Each piece is drawn on the block in pen/pencil and then cut out using a vibrasaw/scroll saw/hegna saw or bandsaw. block modelling qiyi1h

When answering the design questions the products is hand held and for children so please consider the following: Children are generally young people aged between 2 and 12. Ergonomics Ensuring the product comfortable, safe and meets its function. Anthropometrics Ensuring the product is the right size, using children s hand, finger, palm sizes etc.. as design information. Social - Is the designed product aimed correctly at the right audience and is it inoffensive? Moral Is the design safe for children to use? Cultural Is the design acceptable for children of different origins and backgrounds? Material Include block modelling material choice with justification.
