1 24th September College Newsletter 2015 Week 10/10 Marrara on Show A Favourite Event! Marrara on Show is my favourite event on our College Calendar. Last Friday evening our College community came together once again to celebrate and enjoy the talents of our students, staff and parents. This year we combined Marrara on Show with our Annual Art exhibition, so there was a feast for our eyes as well as our bellies, as our parents provided the delicious food for our Food Fair. We also enjoyed the AFL waterslide, jumping castles, table tennis, paper plane competitions, a dress up booth, and a program bursting with fantastic musical performances from Primary right through to Year 12. Thank you to all who contributed to another successful evening. Mrs Glenda Nyhuis - Executive Assistant combined campus of NT Christian Schools MCC / NTCC / / admin.mcc@ntschools.net / PO Box 84 Karama NT 0813

Diary Dates September Friday 25th Last day of Term 3 October Sunday 4th India Study Tour arrives back Monday 12th First day of Term 4 Saturday 17th Working Bee: save the date! Wednesday 28th Year 12 Sleepover Thursday 29th Year 12 Final Assembly Thursday 29th Interschool Swimming Cluster November Monday 2nd - Friday 13th Year 12 Exams Wed 11th - Friday 13th Year 11 Exams Year 9 & 10 Excursion to see Hamlet The poison dipped blade swished precariously close to the young man's white clad body as he intricately danced to and fro, barely avoiding its deadly tip. Hamlet jumped back quickly, but he was not fast enough. The poison entered his blood stream. The several hundred students jolted in horror and a couple of the MCC children were seen to gasp and heard proclaiming; What happened to the Rise Code? It was a tragic day indeed Monday the 14th of September at the Darwin Entertainment Centre as we witnessed the 'deadly' three hour story of 'Hamlet'. First, Hamlet's father was murdered by his uncle after which his unfaithful mother married her husband's murderer. Through an honest mistake, Hamlet killed his girlfriend's dad and then Ophelia (girlfriend) killed herself. In blind hatred and grief, Hamlet's girlfriend's brother (Laertes) and Hamlet's uncle plot to poison Hamlet by either a toxic sword or a concoction of poison. Hamlet's uninformed mother drinks the poison intended for her son and also dies. Hamlet is stabbed by the poisonous sword and then also stabs Laertes with the same sword. Hamlet realizes the plot and forces his uncle to drink form the poison cup. Everyone died! The incredible actors, who were part of the Bell Shakespeare Company, captivated the enthralled students with a story that was written by William Shakespeare in We were all incredibly thankful to Mrs Mavros for going to the trouble of initiating this incredible excursion. Although 'Hamlet' was written by Shakespeare we didn't study it in English this year. Instead we read and learned about the romantic (and tragic) tale of 'Romeo and Juliet', in which everyone also dies! That said, when an opportunity to see Shakespeare live on stage in Darwin comes one's way there's no need to think twice. I was really happy that I was fortunate enough to watch a Shakespeare play performed by professional actors. I doubt I will ever go to see such a play again, but I was captivated by the incredible skill displayed by the passionate actors. Written by Leah Beissel - 9H Photos by Mr Tony Deeb - Teacher
3 COLLEGE NEWSLETTER Live in Truth - Grow in Wisdom Page 3/8 Terrific Team Titres: Marrara #1 Titration Team in NT! Congratulations to the Marrara Christian College team who were the top Northern Territory team in the 2015 Australian National Titration Competition. They met the criteria for a Highly Commended Team and were all gold plaque winners. Nicole Goosen (0.70% error), Rebekah Watson (1.53% error) and Brendan Kleefsman (0.78% error), pictured below. They will receive a Certificate from RACI stating their team's achievement as well as a national ranking for the 2015 Titration Competition. The Australian National Chemical Analysis Competition is a competition for senior school students run by the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI). Marrara Christian College entered 7 teams of 3 students in the preliminary round held at Charles Darwin University in September. This involved two hours of practical work and calculations. Six Marrara teams achieved results which enabled them to participate in the final round. The final involving 3 hours of practical work and calculations is much more challenging, and again our College excelled. This year 15 gold plaques were awarded to NT students and Marrara Christian College students won 8 of these. Their teacher, Russell Dempster, was thrilled with his team. It's a fantastic result and great for the Northern Territory. It shows that if you work well individually and cooperatively as a team, anything is possible! Two other Marrara teams achieved two gold plaques: Katrina McKeough (0.10% error) and Tom Geier (1.31% error), and Angelique Schinkel (0.86% error) and Allycille Gamuza (0.94% error). Jordan Kerr (0.55% error) also achieved a gold plaque. Silver plaque winners were Dion Wright, Mahalia Biscoe, Arnya Hoffman, Lauren Coghill, Eliza Cook, Jade Smith, Daniel Morrison, George Pikos, Jetheh Onofre, Jack Cartmer and Alicia Wong. Congratulations to each of you on your wonderful achievements!
