BuzzBee/Microsoft Exchange Archiving Videos Video 1: Why in-place archiving beats journaling 1 Hello PAUL Paul slides in from the right side of the screen, then off to the left VO: Paul is responsible for his company s archiving system. A gray inbox slides in from the right followed by a quick multiplicity of white s dropping into the inbox from the top of the screen. An arrow builds in to the right and the inbox slides off screen to left as the arrow continues to extend to the right. The arrow makes a few quick turns, illustrating it s journey through the network. VO: They used to archive using journaling, which stores messages in a special external mailbox. (continued) Journaling drive sides in from the right completing the connection. VO: When Paul joined the company, journaling to a 3rd party was pretty much the only choice. We slide back to the left, focusing on just the dotted line. A zipper appears on the dotted line. VO: But it had problems.
BuzzBee/Microsoft Exchange Archiving Videos Video 1: Why in-place archiving beats journaling 2 The zipper slides to the right, opening up the dotted line. We see s rapidly moving, a number of them pop out of the stream and float in a fixed position around the opened zipper. VO: The process of getting messages into the external mailbox can alter them, and even open them up to intentional tampering. A mouse cursor appears and selects each of these s, causing them to flip and turn pale blue, indicating they have been altered. These altered s move back into the stream. The zipper closes and dotted line slides off to the left. VO: That made Paul a bit nervous. Inbox and journaling drive appear and a long list of entries animates in below them. VO: To comply with discovery requests, Paul might have to reconcile his journaled archive with his Exchange data. In other words, he would have to search both mailboxes. The lists of entries scroll down rapidly, stopping at various mismatches in the records. VO: no easy matter if you re talking about millions of messages. After highlighting the mismatches, the list will transition out at the top of the screen and an icon slides in from the right. Shell around animates in on the word captures. VO: Also, journaling only captures and meeting requests.
BuzzBee/Microsoft Exchange Archiving Videos Video 1: Why in-place archiving beats journaling 3 3 RD 3 RD 3 RD icons for calendar items, tasks, and contacts pop up outside the shell, synchronized with voice-over. VO: Other calendar items don t get archived; nor do tasks and contacts. All of which can be important for discovery requests. Inbox slides up underneath the and a 3rd party add-on appears and is attached to the side of the inbox. Once the 3rd party add-on is attached the shell expands and the icons for contacts, tasks, and calendars scale up from behind the inbox and form a rotating ring around it. VO: Paul could use a third-party add-on to capture that data. 3 RD 3 3 RD RD 3 RD 3 RD The inbox shell scales down and slides to the left as a journaling drive with the same rotating icons slides to the right from underneath the inbox, like a copy or a second, hidden dimension of this approach. VO: But he d have to manage it separately, The 3rd party add-on unplugs itself and the inbox changes to a blue inbox, coinciding with the spoken update in the voice over. VO: and it might get in the way of future Exchange upgrades. As the 3rd party add-on plugs itself back in, the shells shrink down and the icons float off and disappear, illustrating that this content is no longer being captured.
BuzzBee/Microsoft Exchange Archiving Videos Video 1: Why in-place archiving beats journaling 4 Microsoft Exchange inbox scales up from the center, with a background ta-da! -style animation. VO: For all those reasons, Paul replaced journaling with in-place archiving. A shell around our Microsoft Exchange inbox scales up from behind the inbox. Inside the shell is a rotating ring of icons. This icon ring will collapse behind the inbox as we zoom in for the next slide. VO: It s built into Exchange no third-party software or separate archives are required. Exchange bubble shrinks down while it s componants shrink and dissapear. s begin sliding down from the top into the bubble. They pause briefly, then a copy is sent to the right in a bubble while the original slides down out of the bubble and a new slides in from the top of the frame. VO: Messages are preserved exactly as they were slides into the bubble, as it pauses a blue arrow pops up when sent is slides into the bubble, as it pauses a blue arrow pops up when received is slides into the bubble, as it pauses a blue pencil icon pops up when edited is VO: when the user last sent, VO: received, VO: or edited them,
BuzzBee/Microsoft Exchange Archiving Videos Video 1: Why in-place archiving beats journaling 5 Hello PAUL slides into the bubble, as it pauses metadata expands out to the right in time with the VO. The metadata then collapses and the slides to the right while the original slides out of the bubble. VO: including metadata. ME box slides to the left as the shell expands and tiles for , calendars, contacts, tasks, IM/chat, and folder structure fold out from beside the ME box. The tiles collapse back into the ME Inbox after voice over statement. VO: Exchange can archive all the items in a user s inbox, so everything is discoverable not just . It even preserves folder structure. As Paul s name tag pops up on the ME inbox, Icon ring scales up from behind the ME inbox, rotating around it slowly. VO: Best of all for Paul, with in-place archiving, he only has one system to manage. He trusts Exchange with mission critical , and now he can use the same system for archiving.
