5 Directions for Examiners Directions for Examiners Administering the Secure Practice TeST The directions in this manual should be used to administer the Georgia Milestones End-of-Course (EOC) Secure Practice Test. The purpose of the Secure Practice Test is to familiarize students with the testing software and the correct procedure for answering questions and moving through the test. A practice test is available for each EOC assessment. Practice tests can be administered multiple times. During the practice test, circulate around the room to confirm that students are recording their answers correctly and navigating the software interface effectively. Follow the scripts provided in this manual for administering the Secure Practice Test. Read word for word the instructions that are printed in bold type and preceded by the word Say. You may repeat any part of these directions as many times as needed, but you should not modify the words used. There are no special scripts to read for accommodated students. Other instructions (printed in italics) are provided for you only and should not be read to the students. If there are any accommodated students who will be taking the Secure Practice Test, be sure each student is permitted to take the practice test with the correct set of accommodations. Allow the student to practice as long as necessary to become comfortable with the accommodations in place. If you reset a student s accommodations after a practice session, make sure the student retakes that practice test with the correct set of accommodations before taking the Secure Practice Test. Use your professional judgment in responding to student questions during the test administration. You may clarify directions; however, under no circumstances should you reword test items, suggest answers, or evaluate student work during the test. For the Secure Practice Test in Mathematics, Physical Science, and Economics/ Business/Free Enterprise, students should be given at least two sheets of blank scratch paper and two sharpened pencils. Students must print their names in the upper-right corner of each sheet of scratch paper they receive. Students may ask for more scratch paper during the test administration, if necessary. All scratch paper must be accounted for and returned to the School Test Coordinator with the other test materials. All applicable test security procedures, outlined in the Test Security section on page 34 of this manual, must be followed during the Secure Practice Test administration. Test Tickets On the day the practice test is to be administered, the School Test Coordinator should provide the Examiner with a Summary Test Ticket (identifying the test session and providing the Test Access Code) and Individual Test Tickets for all students scheduled to take part in the practice test session. These are secure materials and must be delivered immediately before and returned immediately after the practice test administration. Illustrations of both a Summary Test Ticket and an Individual Test Ticket are provided on pages of the End-of-Course Online Examiner s Manual. End-of-Course Online Practice Test Directions Page 5

27 Administering the Online Social Studies Practice Test Administering the Online Social Studies Practice Test Estimated time: minutes The following script should be used to administer the Online Practice Test for United States History or for Economics/Business/Free Enterprise. This practice session will familiarize students with the user interface and the special features of the testing software, as well as the procedures for answering questions and moving through the test. Read the instructions in bold type and preceded by the word Say exactly as they appear in this manual. You may repeat these instructions as needed, but do not modify the wording in any way. 1. Before the practice session begins, check each workstation to make sure it is open to the student login screen shown below: When you are ready to begin, distribute the Individual Test Ticket to each student. Make sure that all students have a pencil or pen to sign their test tickets. Today you will be taking the Online Practice Test for (insert name of EOC assessment). This practice session will show you the special features of the testing software and teach you how to answer questions and move through the test. Before we begin, look at your test ticket and make sure that it has your name and student ID number on it. Raise your hand if you do not have the correct test ticket. Provide the correct Individual Test Ticket to any students who raise their hands. Please follow my instructions, and do not change screens until I instruct you to. Every computer should be opened to the login screen. Type your Login ID and Password exactly as shown on your test ticket. End-of-Course Online Practice Test Directions Page 27

If necessary, have students retype the Login ID, Password, and Test Access Code. Now click the Start button. 3. Pause and make sure that the first item of the practice test is displayed on all screens. It may take up to 30 seconds for the first item to appear. Before you begin reading, listen as I describe the screen. Look at the upper left corner of your screen. It shows that this is Question 1. The questions will appear in the middle of the screen. Sometimes the question will be arranged in one column and sometimes it will be in two columns. Now look at the bottom left of your screen. There is a box with the number 1 for Question 1. Each question will have a numbered box. The words YOU ARE HERE appear above the question number on which you are currently working. Page 28 End-of-Course Online Practice Test Directions

Click on the letter B. The message now says YOUR ANSWER IS: B. To mark any question that you would like to review later, click on the words in the bottom right corner: Mark for Later Review. The numbered question box at the bottom of the screen will now be shaded yellow. Then, instead of Mark for Later Review, you should see the word Unmark. Click on it and the yellow shading will disappear. Unmarking questions is not necessary, but it may help you keep track of which questions you want to review. To move to the next question, you can click on the Go On arrow in the bottom right corner of the screen, or you can click on a numbered box at the bottom of the screen. On the actual test, there will also be two arrow icons that you can click on to scroll through the numbered boxes. Now I will explain ( for United States History, six; for Economics/Business/ Free Enterprise, seven) special tools that you may want to use. You are not required to use these tools, but they may help you as you take the test. Look at the gray toolbar under the words Question 1. The first icon contains a circle and a red X.
