Obtain meaningful online dialogue, data, and feedback from parents, educators, vendors, DOE affiliates, etc. Accommodate those with limited transportation or travel constraints. 5
Why Social Networking? EXPOSURE Business used to be a faceless entity behind a security guard of a corporate gate. 9 Building Online Communities Have fun! RULES Main stream into a free strategy being utilized by everyone. Social Networking is not an additional chore, or something separate from what you re already doing. Keep your sites updated and try not to feel overwhelmed. It gives us the creative liberty and innovative means to reach families and connect with other agencies. 9
Facebook is free and signing up is easy. Create a page for an organization. 10
Facebook has several domains for networking. Facebook Wall This is central body of the organizations profile page. We can post anything and everything we want circulated to our families, agencies and community partners. Mission Statement Our PIRC mission statement is right under our logo. 11
Basic Company Info This is where you post the purpose and demographic information of our organization, when the company was founded, and office location Control panel: Message all members Promote group with an ad Edit group settings Edit members Create group event 12
Photo s Uploading photo s of our PIRC event s and staff makes us so much more than just being an entity, or a company. Our families and communities see us engaging with others in the community, and with our children. We are seen collaborating with other agencies. We are recognized as people who care. 13
Events This tool allows us to post any event our PIRC is hosting. We can post Statewide, or local, community events too. The objective is always to provide families and educators information. 14
Facebook is the leading Social Networking site on the web. It s technological uses continue to adapt to our business and community needs. This site s capabilities are endless, ranging from , to creating fan pages, or creating cause pages. Your ability as a federal grantee to reach families, educators, and potential community partners is limitless. 15
Myspace was the first of its kind to revolutionize the Networking industry. Though it recently lost some of its notoriety to its arch competitor, Facebook, it continues to be successful for business advertising and networking. 16
Myspace has many useful networking domains A myspace page can be created in virtually any language! There is a virtual tour of myspace to help guide you with creating a page. 17
Your home page is your central control panel. We are able to view how many people visited our company profile. We can edit and customize our profile with colorful layouts. Manage friend and contact lists. Control page settings and what content you wish to be on the page. 18
Create bulletin boards, events, and announcements. Create a blog and comments page. Create photo albums of events and staff! 19
Myspace continues to develop its capabilities to meet the interests and needs of our growing need to communicate using technology. It offers the ability to create group pages, favorite friend or contact lists, upload event video s, and create photo albums. This site s capabilities allow us to reach a larger demographic globally. Your ability as a federal grantee to reach families, educators and potential community partners is limitless. 20
Twitter is a free social networking site that enables us to send and receive messages or Tweets! Twitter is ranked as one of the most popular sites to exchange information and resources world-wide. Tweets can only hold up to 140 characters per message. Messages are communicated to and from followers. Followers are a list of people or organizations interested in your posts and shared information. You may follow other organizations, and individuals. Twitter does not require much maintenance, or page setup. 21
The Twitter site is simple to use, signing up is easy and quick. You re mission statement is one line. Then choose several search categories you would like your organization to be listed under. The site has a great category of accounts with listings of organizations to follow. Tweet resources, future events, and include web links! 22
Tweet Deck is a browser that enables a simple tracking system of messages across twitter, facebook and recently added myspace. Create groups. Manage multiple Tweet accounts, using columns to help organize messages received, sent, and private messages. Messages are posted in real time. Re-tweet messages; share a resource or information with other followers. Allows continuous communication by phone. 23
24
Twitter Analyzer is a free resource that counts the number of messages/tweets, and re-tweets. This sophisticated tracking system is conducive for reporting the number of contacts or information and resources exchanged with your target demographic. 25
GoToMeeting is a tool that enables Organizations to host meetings, workshops or webinars online. Though it is not a free tool for hosts, it is free for participants, and certainly helps with cost and travel constraints. The site is easy to use and manipulate, track and host online activities. Participants of any online activity will see the presenters screen and presentation. The gold control panel on the right gives the presenter control over what is seen by viewers. GoToMeeting is an up and coming internet tool that is welcomed by our fast paced society, always challenged with time. 26
Ning is a social networking tool with an ever growing list of options. Create and customize your social network page with blogs, comments, pictures, video, groups, and events with an easy managing system. One outstanding and different feature, is anyone that joins your social network can create a customized profile of their own and message or communicate with other members! 27
Meetup is a new online tool used to find other organized groups of similar interests, and schedule regular meetings. Our PIRC uses this tool to host meetings regularly with other agencies. We also post any events hosted throughout the State. 28
You Tube is a free video sharing website that gives us the ability to post video clips of our Organization events. Video clips are posted in increments of about eleven minutes a piece. Visitors can search categories (Registered users) listed as channels and view posted videos for free. Registered users can post videos, news reports, or video blogs. This site certainly adheres to the visual and auditory learners of our society and is an online tool growing in popularity. 29
What else are we doing? List serv This enables us to send messages to parents, educators and professionals of related fields, all shared information and resources.
