She is a communications professional with a genuine commitment to sustainability. She is today heading an integrated communications department at Siemens with responsibility for all Siemens communications, both internal and external. Additionally she is responsible for sustainability in Sweden and led the Swedish sustainability group. Maria is member of the executive management team at Siemens AB. Maria has worked with communications the last 15 years at different technology companies, before joining Siemens in Sweden she worked at Siemens in Switzerland as international marketing manager for She has a communications exam from RMI Berghs (today: Berghs School of Communications) and has studied Psychology, Law and IT at Lund s University in Sweden. Professional interests are focused on urban governance and sustainable urban development. A special interest is directed to issues concerning the conditions for planning, decision-making and implementation of urban and regional development projects. This interest includes issues concerning conflict management, consensus building and modes for collaboration and implementation of plans for sustainable urban development. Kiruna s city transformation is a unique phenomenon. Nowhere in the world has such a large community had to be relocated because of an industrial operation. It is a project that involves difficult challenges, but so many more possibilities. It is a project that has also aroused curiosity worldwide. On 19 September 2011 it was decided that 3

4 the new city center will be in the east. And now the city transformation is up and running! Göran Cars KTH Tel: Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan Valhallavägen Stockholm Prof. Dr. WOLFGANG FEIST, Institution for building construction and material sciences, University of Innsbruck Prof. Dr. Wolfang Feist is a professor in the field of energy efficient building at the institution for building construction and material sciences at the University of Innsbruck. The most important duty in the field of energy efficient building is to support sustainable building, where ecological sustainability is focused. Prof. Dr. Feist got his diploma in physics from the University of Tübingen in Over the next 10 years, he worked at the institution for building and environment in Darmstad, where he established a separate department for energy. In 1996, Prof. Dr. Feist founded the passive house institute in Darmstad, which he still leads. The passive house institute is an independent research institution for the development and research of passive house techniques. The techniques aim at developing houses which have a lower need of energy. For his engagement for environmental concerns, Prof. Dr. Feist gained the German price for environment in 2001 and Gothenburg s international environment award in

On the initiative of Färgfabriken, the project Stockholm on the Move was started, which is an exhibition as well as an infrastructural project. The project and exhibition went on for four months and ended on March 24, During these four months, the visitors could participate in various activities, like workshops, guided tours, meetings, seminars and debates. Stockholm on the move became a meeting-place for decision makers, the general public, unions, schools, companies and experts, who used the space to discuss questions concerning city development and infrastructure. Joachim Granit is a Swedish artist and from on 2009 the creative head of Färgfabriken, where he actively participates and leads a variety of projects in the fields of architecture and city development, of which Stockholm on the Move is just 5

6 one example. From 1980 and 1985, Granit studied at the Royal Art School (Kungliga Konsthögskolan) in Stockholm. He has participated in several international art exhibitions, for example in St. Petersburg and Tokyo. Due to his ambitions for arts, he was supported by scholarships from Helge Ax:son Johnsonsstiftelsen, Carl Larssonsstiftelsen and Gustaf and Ida Unmans foundation. Joachim Granit Färgfabriken Tel: +46 (0) Stiftelsen Färgfabriken Lövholmsbrinken Stockholm ULI HELLWEG, IBA Hamburg IBA (The international building exhibition) is a known German concept of temporary urban development exhibitions. From on 1901 the international building exhibitions have been organized in Germany, the last one in the city of Hamburg. The exhibitions bring the urban development, as well as the innovative architectural and urban solutions forward. IBA Hamburg took place until the 3 rd of November 2013 and showed a remarkable development of the city of Hamburg, especially in the quarters Wilhelmsburg, Veddel and Harburg Binnenhafen. On the Elbe-island Wilhelmsburg, the concept Renewable Wilhelmsburg successfully achieved that the most energy-efficient city quarter was created. 6

7 Ulli Hellweg, CEO of IBA Hamburg, has a lot of experience within the field of urban planning and architecture. In 1976, Hellweg completed his studies of architecture and urban planning at the technical University of Aachen (RWTH). Afterwards, he worked as a city planner in Berlin; he was the chef of department for urban planning and building construction in Kassel and has even been the head of the city-owned company Wasserstadt GmbH in Berlin. In September 2006, he became the head of IBA Hamburg, where he participated in the development of the concept Renewable Wilhelmsburg, with the implementation of the projects Energy Bunker and Energy Hill. Hegner got a degree from his studies of architecture and construction sciences from the University of Sofia. In 1982 he started working in an architectural planning office. Later, he worked at the ministry of construction óf the GDR as an expert for science and technology. From 1990 until 2006, he worked as a consultant in the federal ministry of special structure, construction and urban building (BMBau) and in the federal ministry of traffic, building and housing 7

8 (BMVBW) as a responsible for energy saving building, questions of construction research and modernization of building fabrics. Besides, he was responsible for the cooperation with Eastern Europe in the field of building. From on 2007, Hans Hegner is the head of the department for construction engineering, sustainable building, construction research at the federal ministry of environment, nature protection, construction and reactor safety. Besides, he is a member and chairman of different standardization committees in DIN, chairman of the expert committee building materials and ways of building for the temperature and noise protection of the DIBt. Moreover, he is the author of several subject specific articles and books. Besides, Pontus Herin is a popular moderator and participator of panel discussions, especially concerning issues of societal development, economy and integration. In 2009, he published the book In Djursholm and Tensta we kiss each other on the cheeks (I Djursholm och Tensta vi kindpussar varandra), which deals with the topic of segregation in Swedish suburbs. Luwoge Consult he is one of the main drivers behind the European project Builtog. BuildTog Passive House projects are respecting a standardized planning methodology developed by LUWOGE consult during the course of the project. This methology sets to control the detailed requirements concerning energy related specifications and construction costs from beginning on. They consequently follow the Common Design developed by the French Architect Nicolas Michelin (A/NM/A), which he adapts together with the local planners to each site. To assure the energy performance and the planning process LUWOGE consult attends all 9

10 projects up to the certification. A/NM/A checks the design in several planning phases and saves the quality of architecture. BASF manages the availability of their proved system solutions in all participating countries. The housing companies continuously control planning, construction and use of their BuildTog ś (monitoring) to optimize the processes. 11 SIMONE KREUTZER, IG Passivhus Sverige Passivhus Sverige (IG PH Sverige) is a network of competences, founded by experts of passive house construction. The network s aim is to inform, educate, ensure quality and support the market branches of building & construction, as well as other interest groups of passive house construction. A passive or zero-energy house includes the aim to reach an environmental friendly and comfortable living with high energy-efficiency. IG PH Sverige s goal is to spread and develop knowledge about passive houses, both on a national and international level. Simone Kreutzer, CEO for IG Passivhus Sverige from on 2012, born and grown up in Germany. Kreuzer is a studied civil engineer and architect, with a diploma from the University of Lübeck. Besides, she gained other certificates in the field of energy-efficiency, such as the certificate European Passive House Designer. Kreutzer was employed at Karlson HusIndustrier and Tyréns, where she worked as a specialist for passive houses. Within the last two years, Kreuzer participated in several projects as an expert for passive houses and energy consultant. One of these projects was the Södra Climate Arena in Växjö, which is the first passive house tennis club, built out of wood. The financial commission has a unique position towards the other commissions, as it constitutes the chairman of the municipal government. Sten Nordin is from on 2008 the chosen chairman at the financial commission of Stockholm s municipal government, as well as the chairman of Stockholm s municipal representation. Sten Nordin studied at the University of Uppsala, among others business administration and sociology. During his studies, he was an active participant in the student union Fria moderata Studentförbundet, where he worked as a union secretary from 1982 until Afterwards, he has several commissions within municipal politics. From on 2013, Sten Nordin shares the position as a chairman with the major of Sao Paolo, for the network of Climate Positive Development within the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group. Its products can be found in numerous applications, e.g. in ventilation, air-conditioning and cooling systems, in household appliances, in heating technology, in IT/telecommunications applications and automotive applications, and in commercial vehicle technology. 1st Award: Energy Efficiency Award 2009: Hollenbach-factory: Due to the regulated displacement ventilation, the air under the roof of the hall is kept at a temperature that can be used to heat adjoining building parts. Excess heat is stored in an 11,000 hl sprinkler container. This also serves as a heat sink for the heat pump. The stored heat is used efficiently to heat the remainder of the building. If the external air temperature rises above 24 C, the building can be cooled using the heat pump. Electricity consumption for the cooling system, compared to a conventional system, has been reduced by 19 percent from 83,300 kwh to 67,750 kwh thanks to the use of energy-saving technology. In 2005 Schartner was one of the founding figures of the company omniplan, a company for project development, planning and realization. For omniplan, Schartner is a project leading architect for several larger building projects in different areas, such as trade and living houses. Some of his exemplary projects are the city quarter Träslöjden (for example the Park Inn Hotel) in Hammarby Sjöstad, a part of Stockholm and the renovation of the American Express Nordic main office. omniplan AB started in Stockholm in 2005 as an integrated project leading company. The company, also known as building architects, works on the first hand with customers who build for their own use or administration. Amongst other projects, they design a concept for the communal exposition in Linköping in Föreningen Byggemeskaper was founded in the end of 2011 with the goal of collecting, developing and spreading knowledge about construction fellowships and the possibility of realization of building projects. A construction fellowship is a group of people that plans and builds together or even uses a building in common, while managing all processes and interaction independently on their own. The idea came from Germany s so called Baugemeinschaften or Baugruppen, stands for high quality, interesting architecture, a greater variety and a stronger engagement with the own house. 19

From 1988 to 1990, he fulfilled his community service in the special-care home Sophien-pflege Pfrondorf, from 1991 until 1996; he concluded his studies in architecture at the University of Kassel. Having finished his studies, Soehlke worked as a freelance journalist and at the same time, he contributed to the development of the southern parts of the city of Tübingen with his work in the fields of Public Relations, planning and marketing. From 2001 to 2010 Soehlke became the leading figure of the city s redevelopment office; in 2003 he became the leader of WIT in the field of estate development. As his major projects can be named the development of Tübingen s city quarters Französischen Viertel, Loretto, Mühlenviertel, Alexanderpark and Alte Weberei (former Egeria ). In the course of these duties, Soehlke became author of several lectures, speeches and publications concerning issues of urban and rural development. 20

22 DAY 3 STELLAN FRYXELL, Tengbom Stellan Fryxell is an architect and partner in Tengbom Architects and working with sustainable urban planning, building design and is lecturing internationally about sustainability and urbanism. Stellan is the member of The International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC s) Committee of Sustainable Development and representing the Swedish Federation of Consulting Engineers and Architects in The European Federation of Engineering Consultancy Associations Sustainable Development Task Force. Stellan Fryxell has among other projects worked with the planning of Hammarby Sjöstad, has designed GlashusEtt Environmental Technique and Information building in Hammarby Sjöstad. 23 ELISE GROSSE, White Arkitekter Elise Grosse lived in Berlin and Los Angeles where she concluded her studies and also gained working experience. Before she came to White Aktiketer, she worked for her own company based in the south of Germany and in Stockholm. Her inventiveness, her will to take initiatives as well as her strong belief to contribute with her work for a more sustainable world and, made her an expert for the cooperation of consultants with different standpoints. She developed a trans-disciplinary approach which takes into account innovative solutions for energy-efficient buildings, ecological construction material and integrated natural systems. 24 Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. h.c. GERHARD HAUSLADEN, Ingenieurbüro Hausladen Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. h.c. Gerhard Hausladen is an internationally approved expert and author in the fields of energy-efficiency and sustainable building, as well as for innovative construction techniques and renewable energy supply. Prof. Dr. Hausladen was born and raised in Munich, where he also started his studies in the program of mechanical engineering with a focus on aeronautics at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). In the following, he worked as a research assistant for the professorship of house automation and construction physics at the faculty of architecture at TUM. In 1980, he was awarded a PhD diploma. Between 1980 and 1985, he was a technical leader of a middle sized company in the field of heating technique, before he started his own engineering office for house automation, construction physics and energy technique. Until today, his office is successfully working on the planning and realization of construction projects, as well as within research work. In 1992, Prod. Dr. Hausladen became the Professor for technical house automation at the University of Kassel. He was one of the major initiators for the foundation of the center for environmental-friendly building (ZUB). From 2001 to 2003, Prof. Dr. Hausladen led the chair of building climate and house automation at the Technical University of Munich. During this time, he established the concept and the terminology ClimaDesign as an overall planning concept for the construction of buildings that aims at achieving a maximum comfort while using the minimum energy that is necessary. Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Hausladen is a founder, as well as a member of the managing board of the association ClimaDesin e.v. In June 2011, Prof. Dr. Hausladen was appointed a Doctor et Professor Honoris Causa by the University of Péces, Ungarn and in july 2013, he was awarded with the Bavarian price of architecture and the Bavarian state s price for architecture. One of his major achievements that the rewards honored was the work within the interdisciplinary working together of engineers and architects in the context of energy-efficient- and climate-optimized planning and building. 24
