4 The men behind Messenger Case studies Paul Gibbons Managing Director Since the inception of Messenger Construction in April 2011, Paul has been determined to ensure that the company offers excellent craftsmanship and outstanding service. He has worked on a wide variety of projects countrywide, ranging from Grade 1 listed mansion houses to new multi-storey office blocks. Prior to establishing Messenger, Paul was a director and shareholder with a nationally renowned conservation and restoration contractor. He originally trained as a bricklayer and mason before gaining an honours degree in Building Surveying. Mike Dooley Insurance Director Mike has 30 years commercial experience having held senior positions for multi-national companies both in the UK and continental Europe. He has a strong belief in providing an outstanding customer service coupled with strong management and process skills and these attributes have proven to be very successful in the insurance market place. Mike joined Messenger in Steve Mellows Special Projects Director Steve has 30 years experience of managing major construction projects. Prior to Messenger, Steve ran his own successful company specialising in new-build and masonry works, including the construction of several large country houses in a traditional style. Among his many accolades for exceptional building projects is Hartforth in Yorkshire, which won the Georgian Group Award for Best New Building in a Georgian Context. Kris Kosmaczewski Surveying Director Kris is a qualified chartered surveyor with more than 20 years experience working in the construction industry. For many years, Kris was a Partner in a large private quantity surveying practice, with clients including The Houses of Parliament, Defence Estates and British Telecom. More recently, Kris has spent much of his time working with many of the UK s major insurers and loss adjusters, valuing damage to domestic and commercial properties. Alongside this, Kris has been the lead surveyor on a number of multi-million pound projects that have involved careful restoration and repair works to listed buildings, including Chatsworth House in Derbyshire.

5 Fire Damaged Thatched Cottage Repairs to a severely fire damaged Grade II listed thatched cottage. Following the erection of independent scaffolding and a temporary roof structure, the whole of the existing thatch was stripped off, to allow access to the damaged roof structure. Repairs included replacement of fire damaged timber roof members, re-thatching and tiling. Internally, plumbing and electrical installations were replaced along with the kitchen and main bathroom. Areas of fire and water damaged lime plasterwork and floor finishes were renewed and the property was completely re-decorated. 6 Fire Damaged Victorian Conservatory and Greenhouse Repairs to a severely fire damaged Victorian conservatory and greenhouse. Existing damaged timberwork was carefully salvaged and repaired with the introduction of new matching timbers where the original was too badly damaged. 7 Flood Damaged Grade II Listed Mill A hotel owner s nightmare! Flash floods in the winter of 2012 caused panic and led to a quick evacuation. Messenger responded immediately, setting up a temporary office for the site staff and promptly attending to the necessary drying out and repair works. Three months after the initial flood, the hotel was back and operational. Closure time and loss of income was kept to a minimum and the end result was a very happy owner and insurer. 8 Fire Damaged Grade II Listed Factory Messenger was commissioned to manage the extensive repair conversion of this Grade II listed former manufacturing and distribution building. Originally designed by Charles Dorman of Northampton in an Edwardian Baroque style, the building was finally completed in 1901, with only minor changes to the design in later years. The latest venture involved careful conservation and restoration work of the external envelope, coupled with the introduction of steel framing to form a new 250 room student accommodation centre. It took great dedication from the skilled Messenger team to successfully preserve the original character of this grand old building.
