A little over a decade ago, Tyco International approached the Smith brothers in the interest of purchasing Smith Brothers Group and in 2000 a deal was struck and the business changed hands. Tyco at the time was a US Listed company on the NYSE and a member of the USA Fortune 500 with a turnover of over $2b p.a. A condition of the sale from the Smith brothers was that all employees must remain with the business and that they would continue to manage the business. Tyco s intent was to acquire other plumbing and pipeline businesses through Australasia and abroad under the successful model developed by Smith Brothers Group. Tyco soon after experienced mar- in the transfer of many of its Australian interests to a private equity company; then in 2007 this group of companies listed on ASX as Norfolk Group. 5 including Chris Smith as General Manager of Smith Brothers Group and on the Norfolk Senior Management Team. However, the intent to expand operations did not eventuate. In October 2010, Chris Smith purchased Smith Brothers Group back from Norfolk Group in the absolute belief that it was a good business being held back for lack of funds. At the forefront of that process has been extensive testing, review, and purchase of new equipment and technology directly from US & UK to reassert our technological expertise in the plumbing & pipeline industry. Set the benchmark for service in Adelaide, being the first to introduce 24 hour/ 7 day service (1985); same day service (1988) and service within the hour (1990). Pipeline Technology Services Hydrojet / Vacuum Recovery Units. The company specialises in all facets of drainage and water mains, from large bore sewer and storm water drainage to domestic house drains. Our technology enables pipes to be repaired internally using a relining system without the need for excavation. Our vehicles and equipment are the latest technology and our technicians are highly trained and experienced. Smith Brothers Plumbing Construction Completed the largest one-off $value project in SA to date being the PPP Super Schools. Other iconic projects - Adelaide Airport Passenger Terminal, Commonwealth Law Courts and Newport Quays precinct and Adelaide Oval. The Hot Water Doctor installs & repairs all major makes and models of Hot Water Services, Solar, Gas or Electric. We carry all brands in our store, accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We offer same day installation and service, after hours service 24/7 and if necessary, emergency service within the hour. Trades Express SA is a licenced building company established to supply selected organisations with a total package of Property Services, performing a wide range of building, civil and general building services works. Smith Specialised Services is a specialist division of integrated services including plant hire for quick response remote and mining situations. Inground Solutions provides location and survey of underground services; excavation, survey management. Mr Smith asserts that Smith Brothers Group maintains a strong relationship with Norfolk Group, the Australian company which purchased Smith Brothers Group after Tyco became unable to support its Australasian holdings. We still have a very strong relationship with Norfolk, he says. It really just came down to the fact that we were under-utilising our expertise with the equipment that we could purchase or renew and now we ve invested a lot of money and we re back up there where we wanted to be.
