Best Practice: Power Distribution via Track Busbar Maximum availability, flexibility and reliability for the electrification of server cabinets In mission critical DC environments the reliability and availability of the productive IT hardware are the pillars of success. Modular, scalable and redundant power distribution is essential to achieve TIER I to IV classification. STARLINE track busway provides reliable 100, 225, 250, 400 and 800 amp busbar that can be installed overhead or under the raised floor. Mounting power tap offs takes only a few seconds by inserting the twist-and-lock plug into the busbar and rotating it 90 degrees at any location along the track. Power cables can then be connected directly to the tap offs allowing for immediate power to new racks. Wire-free power monitoring for individual servers, tap-off or busbar level is available from Packet Power. Depending on the model, the ipdus are accessible via the serial port, TCP/IP, web browser or wirelessly and integrate power and monitoring functions. Together with vendor specific management applications or third party DCIM or BMS systems, there are limitless ways to manage, monitor and control power in the data centre. We partner with market leader PDU manufacturers Dataprobe, Geist, Raritan and Server Technology, to offer the best solution for your needs. PDU HIGHLIGHTS (MANUFACTURER AND MODEL DEPENDENT):» PDUs available with 8, 16, and 32 Amps (further options upon request)» Single or three phase options 1, 4, 8, 16, 24 or more power outlets» Integrated power monitoring capabilities» Threshold settings, SNMP traps and alerts» Remote power off/on» Sensor ports for environmental monitoring» Support for third-party DCIM and BMS tools Option: On-demand custom PDUs Custom designed PDUs that meet your exact day to day power needs In the case of customers having special requirements for their PDUs, customisation is a very good option to get a product that fits perfectly into their individual IT or DC environment. The choice is up to the customer, e.g. how many outlets, which voltage, amperage, type of circuit breaker, power and environmental monitoring capabilities and/or colours are required. CUSTOM DESIGNED PDU HIGHLIGHTS:» Choice of number of power outlets» Available as single or three phase versions» Available with 8, 16, 32 or 63 Amps» Optional: power and environmental monitoring capabilities» Different colours available» Mounting options: horizontal (requires U space) or vertical (0U)» Optional: zlock Dual IEC Locking Cable Best Practices for Power & Monitoring Daxten 3
3. Best Practice: Secure Power to Device Connections Prevention of downtime with dual sided IEC locking power cables The zlock dual sided locking cables simply replace existing power cables. All connected IT devices are well protected against accidental and vibration disconnects and the resulting power supply disruptions, downtime and equipment damage. ZLOCK DUAL LOCKING POWER CABLE HIGHLIGHTS:» Unique power cable that locks both ends» Locks automatically (C13) and via twist lock (C14)» Requires no vendor specific mating plug or receptacle» Prevents power cables from being dislodged» Increases the reliability of power distribution» Available in C13 to C14, C15 to C14 and C19 to C20» Choice of different colours and lengths The zlock power cords are also available as versions with a single sided locking mechanism. 4. Best Practice: Redundancy for Single Power Devices Micro Automatic Transfer Switches add fail-safe power to any IT component Reliable power for network devices and servers is a vital part in ensuring uptime in any data centre. For IT equipment with single power supplies, the micro ATS is essential in creating redundancy by providing power from two different sources. Without transfer switches, any power interruption can cause failures and downtime. Not only does the μats test the power supply, but also the incoming voltage. If incoming power is interrupted or if over or under voltage is detected, the source is switched from A to B preventing failures and keeping the IT equipment up and running. A and B power sources do not need to be synchronised and switch well within CBEMA curve recommendations. MICRO AUTOMATIC TRANSFER SWITCHES HIGHLIGHTS:» 1, 2 or 3 port versions» Requires 0U rack space» Supports 8 Amps for 208 to 240 Volts» Switches from power feed A to B within 9 and 11ms» Phases do not need to be aligned» Protects against over and under voltage» Virtual circuit breaker with audio alarm 4 Daxten Best Practices for Power & Monitoring
5. Best Practice: Capacity Expansion via Micro DCs Smallest and most cost-effective form factor for on demand DC expansion Mobile and modular Micro Data Centres (MDC) from Elliptical Mobile Solutions are self-enclosed, rack based data centres with up to 42U space for integrating any type of IT equipment. Depending on the MDC model, a closed air or water cooling loop and optional free cooling capabilities are available. As the MDC form factor is smaller than containerised data centres, capacity can be extended only when needed and located in areas that cannot be converted into a full server room. This leads to dramatic cost-savings and faster installation time. EMS MICRO DATA CENTRES HIGHLIGHTS:» Closed cooling loop for IT loads (up to 2.5, 6, 12, 20 or 80 kw)» NEMA 4 (IP56) or NEMA 12 (IP52) protection» Mobile or rack-based enclosure» Easy to deploy, setup and relocate» Shock and vibration isolation protects equipment from damage» Versions for indoor and outdoor usage available» Optional upgrades depending on model 6. Best Practice: Monitor Areas Susceptible to Leaks Leak Detection prevents water damage with catastrophic results in data centres Water leaks pose a huge potential danger in data centres and are one of the main causes of long-term failures of devices and systems. They can also cause technical and structure damage that can be very expensive to fix. Before the threat of even the smallest leak becomes acute and leads to serious risks, the leak first has to be pinpointed and remedied. A SeaHawk leak detection solution represents an effective way of handling this problem. SEAHAWK LEAK DETECTION HIGHLIGHTS:» Reliable detection of water leaks or other liquids» Alerts by SNMP or email depending on model» Spot detectors to monitor a confined zone» Sensing cables to monitor areas susceptible to leaks» Zone controllers generate alarms» Remote controllers pinpoint the exact location of leaks» Controller can be integrated into DCIM or BMS» Communication via SNMP, Modbus, BACnet or N2 Best Practices for Power & Monitoring Daxten 5
7. Best Practice: Centralised Power & Environmental Monitoring Increase resource utilisation, reliability and improve efficiency though monitoring For data centre and facility managers it is essential to ensure the most efficient usage of existing power and cooling capacities. To achieve optimal utilisation, regular monitoring of power and environmental parameters is critical. Monitoring data allows you to identify, analyse and resolve energy, thermal and reliability weaknesses while increasing the PUE in your data centre. Our comprehensive monitoring solutions enable you to centrally control and manage several hundred environmental sensors (e.g. for temperature, humidity, dew point and airflow) and energy parameters like Volts, Amperes, kw, kwh, kva, phase angle and total current for any cabinet, PDU or single IT device.
