7 INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS HOW DO I APPLY? VETfS applications for 2016 open in July 2015 and close on Friday 4 September 2015. Talk to your VET Coordinator/Careers Counsellor and ensure the school supports your application in your chosen program. To complete your application you must have your School Curriculum & Standards Authority (SCSA) number, parent/guardian email address and mobile phone number. VETfS programs are extremely competitive. It is recommended that you provide as much evidence as possible to support your application. Submission of your latest school report is essential and including other documents such as a resume, references and/ or certificates will help support your application. These documents must be uploaded when applying through our online application system. Applications can be submitted online at www.polytechnic. wa.edu.au/content/application-process Your school will be asked to endorse and support your application before the selection process begins. Once applications have closed, you may be required to attend an interview and, in some cases, complete an aptitude or maths test. All students are required to have a C grade average in Maths and English for all programs. WHEN AND HOW DO I FIND OUT IF I HAVE BEEN OFFERED A PLACE? Polytechnic West will confirm successful student placements via an email to the school. Letter of offer documentation will then be sent to your parent/guardian home or email address. It is important that you officially accept the offer by the due date. Failure to accept the offer will result in your place being offered to another student. I believe a VET Pathway in school provides great insight into what you can achieve in your chosen career. Robert Rubery 2014 Vocational Education and Training Beazley Medalist I was finishing year 11 and 12 at high school and had a passion for computers, IT and digital media. This passion led me to taking the more hands-on VET for Schools pathway at Polytechnic West. I thought it was a great idea to do that because I felt I wasn t quite ready to go straight into university after school. I thoroughly enjoyed it and believe it is a great way to learn industry specific skills you would otherwise miss out on through high school if you jumped straight to university. I d say honestly give the VET pathway fair consideration and don t dismiss that as a sort of easier option, because it will definitely get you somewhere. All the work experience has helped me grow as a person.
