Improve the on-board travel experience with Broadband on trains Making trains the first choice for 21st century travel In response to unpredictable fuel prices, continuing economic uncertainties and global environmental concerns, governments and travelers around the world are taking a new interest in railways as a primary mode of national and regional transport. Authorities in the European Union, for example, have indicated a preference for all inter-city journeys of 1000 km or less to be made by train within the next ten years. Over the same period, their stated goal for railways share of the total EU passenger travel market is 30%, up from around 10% today. Achieving these objectives will require massive investment in infrastructure and rolling stock over many years in order to deliver more capacity, higher speeds and greater safety. At the same time, train operators must attract new customers by offering an on-board traveling experience equal or superior to that offered by alternative carriers for example, by providing entertainment content and broadband Internet access. Business travellers often welcome the chance to work while on the move, while those traveling for leisure increasingly want the journey to be part of the pleasurable experience. Trains, faster than cars and with more space than aeroplanes, can take further advantage of new communications technology to bring added value to both these customer sectors. Already, there are strong indications that when network and train operators achieve these goals, railways can attract a significant share of national and regional travel markets. In Spain, for example, the roll-out of high-speed AVE trains has seen long-distance rail travel increase by a third during 2008, while domestic airline passenger numbers fell by a fifth. In France, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, the Thalys high-speed train service has made a similar impact on both national and cross-border routes. In cases such as the Paris - Brussels route, trains have almost completely replaced planes as the preferred means of travel. For example, Internet access, video streaming and online gaming bring more leisure opportunities to passengers, while online access helps meet the needs of business travelers. Video monitoring increases security, while WLAN connectivity for online data throughput helps to improve processes and reduce operational costs. Working in partnership with third-party specialists, Nokia Networks helps train operators deliver greater value through a range of these information and entertainment services that enhance the traveling experience. Complete turnkey solution for Broadband on trains The Nokia Networks solution consists of the following elements (examples). Mobile Access Router, Secondary Rack Satellite connectivity Content partner for entertainment services The main rack handles all traffic from passengers inside the train as well as all incoming and outgoing traffic between train and ground. The secondary racks, located in all coaches, are connected by an on-board backbone. The connection between the coaches can be wireless or wired. Our solution is configured to support various types of train-toland connection, including satellite connectivity. Different mobile networks can be used to guarantee the best connection, with preferences set when more than one route is available. The Nokia Networks content platform provides passengers with locally stored content such as video- and audiostreaming, a comprehensive overview of the day s news, tourist information and other applications such as a moving map or games. Int./ext. antennas, cables, FE/GB switch M12 Network Operation Center Displays Depending on the environment within the train, either wireless or wired connections can be implemented. Nokia Networks can provide all necessary connecting elements, such as switches, external and internal antennas and cabling to ensure best-in-class end toend functionality. The on-land Network Operations Center (NOC) enables remote operation for monitoring of the trains and includes performance tools to generate realtime usage and operating statistics. Using the NOC, the train operator has a complete overview of the service performance at any time. Passenger information screens are an ideal way to inform passengers of critical information such as transit information, possible delays, news flashes, tourist information, moving maps or advertisements. Service Nokia Networks offers a wide range of services suited for your needs: Installation and integration of Broadband on trains solution Project management to follow the complete project deployment Level 2 and Level 3 support services Spare part and repair packages A training and installation package can be included. 4 Best onboard experience

Nokia Broadband on Trains solution for seamless on-board coverage network LTE WiFi 3G HSDPA 2G GPRS Multilink Endpoint Router Wired or wireless backbone Management center Switch Global market leader in railway solutions (GSM-R, BBoT, infotainment etc. End-to-end service (I&C, maintenance, operations, marketing) Customisable & modular architecture based on open standards & protocols Rail grade certified (EN 50155) Mobile Access Router Access Point The impact of LTE Offering superb spectrum efficiency and latency, LTE will be one of various backhaul technologies available for on-board Wi-Fi-based Internet connectivity. Our on-board Broadband on trains unit is already fully compatible with LTE, so its use depends solely on how quickly public network operators can provide LTE coverage for the railway tracks in their respective countries. Nokia Networks is the world leader in LTE and so helps network operators to deploy their LTE networks as effectively and quickly as possible, benefitting both land based users and train passengers. How the customer benefits Broadband on trains also delivers valuable operational benefits such as remote security monitoring and enhanced ticketing and seat reservation services. The additional bandwidth also opens the way to an almost unlimited range of information and entertainment applications that can be used to attract new customers and improve the on-board travel experience. With this service, passengers will be able to buy tickets on the train, while the on-board Wi-Fi service will keep commuters, holidaymakers and business travellers connected with friends, family and work. Providing passengers with Internet access and online services during their journey adds to the trains top-class facilities. Best onboard experience 5

Thalys high speed train passengers enjoy broadband Internet Selected in 2007 as part of a consortium, Nokia Networks undertook to design and install the network and manage the services for five years. Thalys whole fleet offers the Wi-Fi service on routes serving Paris, Brussels, Cologne and Amsterdam. A second contract in 2011 underlined the operator s trust in the consortium s capabilities. It included technical improvements to give a better performance on Thalys northern routes, a new flexible Web portal with a better look and feel and a new AAA system for increased tariff flexibility, bringing Thalys increased profitability. 6 Best onboard experience

Velaro RUS1 project customized according to Russian certification standards The Broadband on trains service for Velaro RUS has been offered commercially since December 2009. Passengers travelling from St. Petersburg to Nizhny Novgorod via Moscow can enjoy a non-stop broadband Internet experience. The total on-site delivery took less than three months. Delivering Wi-Fi to passengers and enhancing operations for WESTbahn Passengers using WESTbahn s luxury express trains on the Salzburg-Vienna route now enjoy a superior travel experience with always-on broadband and other online services, such as enhanced ticket ordering. In 2011, the Austrian railway operator commissioned Nokia Networks to equip seven new double-deck trains with broadband access. The broadband connectivity also enables the monitoring of trains and onboard equipment to improve operational support. Austrian Federal Railways offers its passengers an on-board Wi-Fi service In December 2011, the first of 51 trains with a Broadband on trains solution were delivered to Austrian Federal Railways (Österreichische Bundesbahn or ÖBB). The total solution comprised the main rack, access points and, from the landside, a Network Operation Center complete with Fleet Network Manager software. The system allows ÖBB to offer its passengers an on-board Wi-Fi service which keeps business travelers, commuters and holiday makers connected while traveling. Why Nokia Networks Developing telecommunications is not a core business activity for railway and train operators. To meet these challenges, it is therefore essential that they work with a partner who can deliver a true turnkey solution with total dependability over an extended geographical area for a long period (typically 10 to 15 years). Nokia Networks is a world leader in railway communications solutions. We offer a dedicated set of products and services that directly address many of our customers most pressing business issues. As a leading player in Broadband on trains, we can help train operators attract new passengers and freight users by substantially improving the quality of service and the quality of customer experience.
