Power Capacities EPS (Emergency Power Supply) Three 2.250 kva diesel generators Diesel tested bi-monthly Fuel tank installed outside the building Oil level metering and re-filling during operation possible UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) Highest reliability and availability 2 UPS systems for each Data Center with 1825 kva to take IT-load for 30 minutes All necessary loads for continued operation connected to the UPS 4
Cooling Capacities CHILLERS Three York chillers with 8300 kw total capacity Chilled water supplying to 58 Computer Room Air Conditioners (CRAC) units COOLING TOWERS Seven Cooling Tower with 12250 kw total capacity 5
IT-Infrastructure Data Communication Two entrances into each data center area Several telecommunication providers Redundant high bandwidth connections to the internet IT Hardware 6 large system Z 700 midrange servers System P 4170 midrange servers System X 9 idataplex (Cloud Computing) 1040 Network Hardware 7 PB DASD SAN 15000 TB Tape archive system Hosting the biggest cloud environment outside US 300 internal and external customers 6
Security Building- / Area-Security 4 individual Data Center areas, separated and autonomous No windows in exterior walls Camera observation/monitoring (CCTV) Security-Zone-Model Protection against explosives Reinforced suspended ceiling Physical Access Security Two guards 24 / 7 in the Security Control Center IHK certified and continuous trained security guards Data center access through a mantrap system with badge: Additional Identification to the Control Access System (CAS) with PIN Anti-Passback Implemented workflow tool (PC-PAMT) Code of conduct has to be signed by visitors Fire Detection & Extinguisher Early fire detection (VESDA), highly redundant Extinguisher, Automatic fire detection Fire alarm system linked to fire brigades, on-site-time <5 min balanced sprinkler system 7
Safety consideration for technical and environmental endangering potential Debris load - impact of a sports plane The reinforced concrete structure is able to absorb the impact resulting kinetic energy of a sports plane Crash of an airliner The probability of a collision is 1.41 x 10-09 The likelihood of a targeted crash is at 2.00 x 10-07 (The air traffic control and approach corridor to the Stuttgart airport are therefore an additional protection for the building or structure in Ehningen.) 8
Safety consideration for technical and environmental endangering potential Fire resistance The physical structure has a fire resistance of F90. The construction would be in the case of the impact of a sport plane capable of both the component and the fire resistance to counter this extreme action. Earthquake The IBM building is in accordance with DIN 4149 in the earthquake zone 0 The data center has a high overload capacity, a large ductility (deformability) and redundancy Flooding and thunderstorm The IBM site is regarding flooding and storms due to its strategic position as safely and flood-free classified Wind and storm The cores and shear walls to ensure a stable wind or storm erosion of the ring forces Snow load The ratio of the ceiling to the snow load is 15:1, snow is thus not a critical load case 9
IBM Green Data Center IBM Green Data Center Practices Continue to Develop and Implement Energy Conservation best practices: Layout Floors in hot aisle / cold aisle arrangement Perform energy audits at all strategic data centers Airflow management optimization Maximize data center power density for most efficient operation Eliminate air dams and Seal all cable cutouts 100% 'free cooling' when outside temperatures permit significantly Chilled water Pumping/Air handling units variable speed drives Ventilation plates (variable adjustable) Smart Cool (Control / optimization of the chiller system) Deploy new technologies such as: IT systems belonging to the latest technology Virtualization of systems IBM Green Data Center Project KWKK (Kraftwärmekopplung = combined heat and power system) commissioning Q3/2011 Mobile Measurement Technology (MMT 1.5), which we can measure temperature and humidity for the whole IT area, and thus identify hot spots and airflow problems. Planned Q2/2011 10
