The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board exists to provide places and recreation opportunities for all people to gather, celebrate, contemplate, and engage in activities that promote health, well-being, community, and the environment. Role Summary This position is responsible for the design, implementation, support and maintenance of network and server infrastructure including all associated network hardware, servers, databases, and datacenter operations. Duties Performs under the general supervision of the Director, Information and Technology Services and is responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties: Essential Duties: Design and architect network, datacenter, and server infrastructure for the Park Board in line with industry best practices. Promptly communicate with ITS Director regarding any significant IT issues or matters of concern; keep ITS Director up to date on status of all projects. Design and effectively implement network connectivity solutions such as VPN, broadband, wireless, and City of Minneapolis application access. Provide expertise in the architecture, maintenance, and support of physical and virtual server environments including attached SAN/Drive Arrays. Establish network server and equipment lifecycle and replacement plans in line with industry best practices. Lead effort and work collaboratively with department staff on server and application upgrades. Effectively design and maintain datacenter hardware configuration. Supply heating, cooling and humidity environmental requirements in the most efficient manner. Recommend server hardware, equipment racks, and cable management. Determine location of all equipment implemented in server room. Provide electrical power requirements to electricians. Maintain and effectively troubleshoot network infrastructure, including servers and related hardware equipment. Effectively monitor and update the Server/Network hardware Critical Care coverage and support agreement contracts with vendor. Coordinate Critical Care hardware service calls when required. Setup and configure server operating systems in physical and virtual environments in line with industry best practices.
Efficiently install and configure hardware management and monitoring software on all servers. Perform complete server and network shutdowns and startups when required. Effectively maintain all network and server documentation electronically using applications such as Word, Excel or Visio. Also maintain hard copy paper catalog of critical documentation provided by contractors or vendors. Diligently maintain Cisco warrantees to ensure uptime ensured under critical care contracts. Use expertise to effectively install, configure, and maintain DNS, WINS and DHCP. This includes adding manual entries into WINS and DNS for access to City of MPLS enterprise applications and/or configuring Zone Transfers of City DNS. Setup and maintain DHCP IP Scopes for three locations and all IP reservations required by client applications. Troubleshoot any issues with WINS, DNS or DHCP. Research and recommend network user policies of various types. Write clear network procedures for the organization. Design and make recommendations for Disaster Recovery procedures including data and system backups in line with industry best practices. Use expertise to effectively install, configure, maintain and monitor Exchange mail server application. Monitor the Exchange store quotas and user policies. Run offline Defrags of the Exchange Database as maintenance. Apply Exchange Service Packs as released. Respond to email issues by troubleshooting and resolving issues, consulting outside resources as needed. Set policies to minimize problematic issues. Clean and delete mailboxes not used. Setup blocking and retrieval of file attachments not allowed via email. Research and implement enterprise software for Content Filtering, Email and Internet access solutions etc. inline with industry best practices. Use expertise to effectively install, configure, maintain and monitor Web Filtering application and Proxy Server applications. Maintain and configure website blocking and access rules. Perform database maintenance such as compacting and archiving processes. Configure and monitor user database. Setup and monitor automatic emailed reports. Run user usage reports as requested by management. Configure blocked category download updates. Resolve any website filtering or client user website access issues. Use expertise to effectively install, configure, maintain, and monitor all Park Board Servers (Exchange mail server, Proxy Server, SQL Database servers, Web servers, and Print servers). Use expertise to effectively install, configure, maintain and monitor SQL Database servers and applications. Develop database maintenance plans and troubleshoot issues that arise. Provide database customizations and complete data retrieval requests for customers and business applications. Apply server and application specific patches. Use expertise to effectively install, configure, maintain and monitor enterprise antivirus application. Install antivirus console management servers, configure and deploy antivirus software remotely to all Park Board servers and workstation clients. Install and manage email antivirus software on MS Exchange. Respond and resolve any antivirus outbreaks on servers or workstation clients. Maintain daily antivirus definitions updates on servers and workstation clients. Deploy and configure antivirus software upgrades.
Use expertise to effectively install, configure, maintain and monitor Web servers. Troubleshoot connectivity/availability of the website and maintain the core OS and IIS functions. Use expertise to effectively install, configure, maintain and monitor Print servers. Act as primary lead for designing and implementing print servers. Assists other IT staff with the resolution of complex client, user and desktop application issues. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned. Related Work: Research and utilize hardware manufacturers, websites, vendor contacts, technical catalogs and documentation to make hardware recommendations to ITS Director. Assemble and install all server hardware in Rack or Desktop Environments. Effectively troubleshoot hardware, software, or network connectivity issues to ensure the network functions properly. Monitor, diagnose, repair and maintain all server hardware in addition to related hardware equipment such as backup power supplies (UPS), SAN/Drive Arrays, Networking Hardware, etc. Work with vendor as needed to diagnose and fix problems. Ensure Domain Controller and Active Directory functions work in harmony to allow user authentication and accessibility to PARK_REC domain resources and Trust Relationships for the City of Minneapolis Domain resources. Assist or lead on interfacing with City of MPLS BIS and Unisys personal to resolve connectivity and shared applications, etc. Work collaboratively or independently on overflow tasks and problems not able to be solved by other ITS staff. Assist other ITS staff members as needed with the management and maintenance of Active Directory user accounts. Assist other ITS staff with installation, configuration, or resolution of client application issues. Effectively communicate and train both technical and non-technical users one-onone as needed. Resolve network printer and print server issues. Participate in on-call rotation during evenings and weekends as defined by the oncall policy.
