CISCO VPN CLIENT INSTALL AND UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS * If you are installing the VPN client for the first time skip the Uninstall section and start with the Install procedure on page 3. Uninstall: Prior to installing a newer version of Cisco s VPN client, the old client software must be removed. The current version is 5.0.07.0410. The method to remove older versions of the client may be different depending upon the version installed on your computer. The oldest versions may be uninstalled by clicking on the Start Menu as shown and selecting the option to Uninstall Cisco Systems VPN Client: 1. Select Uninstall VPN Client option from the Cisco Systems VPN Client menu as shown... Newer versions of the Cisco VPN Client may be uninstalled from the Add or Remove Program wizard in the Control Panel. From the Start Menu, Select Settings and Control Panel. Open Add or Remove Programs. Locate Cisco Systems VPN Client and Click Remove 2. Click Yes to continue..
3. Click Yes to delete existing profile information... 4. Click Yes to delete existing certificates... 5. Click Finish when prompted... The computer will restart. Open Windows Explorer. Locate and expand the + next to the C: drive. Expand Program Files folder and locate the Cisco Systems folder. Click once to highlight the Cisco Systems folder and press the delete key.
Install: Windows XP, Vista or 7?? The new version of the Cisco VPN Client is compatible with all three versions of the Windows Operating Systems. The difference between the installers is the question of 32-bit or 64-bit. The install procedure is the same for all versions. 32-Bit or 64-Bit?? Prior to Installing the new version of the Cisco VPN Client you will need to know whether the Operating System on your computer is a 32-bit Operating System or a 64-bit Operating System. To find this information, open the Control Panel by clicking on the Start Menu and select Settings and Control Panel. Please Note: The Control Panel may be listed in the Start Menu without the need to, first, select Settings... Double click on the System Control Panel. If the System Type is a 64-bit Operating System, download the 64- bit version of the Cisco VPN Client from the MPS Portal. If the System Type is not a 64-Bit Operating System, download the 32- bit version of the Cisco VPN Client from the MPS Portal. If you are installing the 32-bit version double click the file named vpn32bit.exe. If you are installing the 64-bit version double click the file named vpn64bit.exe. The installer will start automatically and configure the VPN client for use for MPS staff. Please reboot the computer after the install is finished.
Configuration If you are not an MPS employee you will need to add a connection entry for your group. The needed information was sent to you when your account was created. Open the Cisco VPN Client from the Start Menu by selecting Cisco Systems VPN Client and click VPN Client. Click New to create a new profile... 1. Connection Entry: This is a descriptive field. You may enter a word or phrase that clearly identifies this connection. I chose MPS VPN 2. Host: This field tells the VPN software where you are connecting. This field must be vpn.milwaukee.k12.wi.us PLEASE NOTE: There are no spaces in this string. Periods separate each section. 3. Group Names and Passwords This example was setup for MPS staff. Please refer to the information provided to you to complete the setup. *Group names and passwords are case sensitive 1 3 2 On the Transport tab click the option for IPSec over TCP and click Save.
You may open the VPN connection a couple different ways... 1. Click once to highlight the connection and click Connect 2. Double click MPS VPN Enter your MPS User ID and Password and Click OK... A message box will appear every time you open the VPN client and connect. Read the message and click Continue.
If this is the first time you have connected to MPS using VPN, you will need to install one more piece of software. This software named Cisco Clean Access Agent is required to make sure your computer conforms to security policies Milwaukee Public Schools has enabled. Open Internet Explorer to begin the install. You will be redirected to a web page with additional information. Click the link at the bottom of the page to Launch the CISCO NAC Windows Agent installer. This process will take a few minutes... Click Allow if prompted... The installer will finish and display this message. Click OK. You will see this prompt every time you connect assuming your Antivirus definitions are up to date. You will see a different prompt if your definitions are out of date. Disconnect from VPN and update your Antivirus Definitions before reconnecting to VPN.
