Cisco VPN Client Installation Guide Please read the instructions below to assist with the process of downloading, installing, and configuring the Cisco FAU VPN Client. 1.0 Prerequisites The following items are required in order to install and run the FAU Cisco VPN client software: FAU network ID and Password Cisco VPN client installation file A computer running Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows XP Access to a network and internet connection. This can be any type of Internet connection, either wireless or wired, or through a dial-up service. 2.0 Download the FAU VPN Client This section outlines the procedure to download the FAU VPN Client installation file. The FAU VPN Client installation file can be downloaded from the following location: http://www.fau.edu/irm/network/vpn_client_download.php You will be presented with the FAU Cisco VPN Software End User License Agreement. This agreement must be accepted in order to download the VPN Client software. After the license agreement is accepted, select the appropriate download link according to the operating system. When prompted to download the VPN installation file, select save to download the file to the local computer. When saving this file, please select a location such as the Windows Desktop where the installation file will be easy to locate. VPN Client Installation Guide Page 3
2.1 Install the FAU VPN Client After the download process has completed, locate the file saved from the previous step. Double click to run the file and initiate the installation process. You will be prompted with the following alert. If a previous version of the Cisco VPN client is currently installed, the installer application will prompt to uninstall or remove the previous version. All previous versions of the Cisco VPN client must be removed prior to installation of the new VPN client. Select OK to continue with the installation. Note: If a previous version of the VPN client was discovered, please continue with the removal process. If removing a previous version, a reboot will be required after the uninstallation process. After the reboot, please run the installation file again to continue with the new VPN client installation. VPN Client Installation Guide Page 4
When the installation of the FAU VPN Client continues, the following dialogue box will appear. Select Next to continue the installation. Select I Accept the license agreement and then Next to continue with the installation as shown in the figure below. VPN Client Installation Guide Page 5
Select Next to accept the default installation location as shown in the figure below. Select Next to begin the installation procedure as shown in the following diagram. VPN Client Installation Guide Page 6
The installation process will continue as shown below. Please note that this process may take several minutes to complete. When the installation process has successfully completed, the following dialogue box will appear. Please select Finish to exit the installation. VPN Client Installation Guide Page 7
After the installation has completed, the following notification will appear. The computer must be restarted in order to complete the VPN installation. Please select Yes to restart the computer. 2.2 Initiate the VPN connection 1. After the computer has restarted, locate and open the VPN Client application. The VPN dialer application can be found in the following location: Windows START button> Programs or All Programs > Cisco Systems VPN Client > VPN Client Once the VPN Client application is selected, the VPN Client application will open as shown below. Please make sure that a connection entry does exist for the FAU VPN concentrator. If a connection entry does not exist, please see section 3.0 Manually Create the FAU VPN Connection Entry to create the FAU connection entry. VPN Client Installation Guide Page 8
2. In the VPN Client, highlight the FAU Connection Entry and click on the Connect button as shown in the figure below. 3. The FAU VPN Client will create a connection to the FAU VPN concentrator. After a connection is established, the user authentication dialogue box will appear as shown below. The following information is required: FAU Username FAU Password After the information has been entered, select the OK button to proceed. VPN Client Installation Guide Page 9
4. If authentication is successful, the system will display the welcome banner as shown in the figure below. Click Continue. 5. Once you have successfully connected to the FAU network, the VPN Client will minimize and appear as a small gold lock icon in the System Tray, in the lower right-hand corner of your screen, as shown in the figure below. 6. After the VPN connection is successfully established, all FAU network resources will be available. This includes remote desktop connections, Microsoft Outlook, and permanently mapped network drives. 3.0 Manually Create the FAU VPN Connection Entry If the FAU Connection entry is missing, the FAU Connection entry can be manually created. 1. With the VPN Client open, select the New button as shown in the figure below. VPN Client Installation Guide Page 11
2. To create the new FAU connection entry, the following information must be entered as follows: Connection Entry: FAU Description: FAU VPN Connection Host: 131.91.128.153 Group Authentication: (enabled by default) Name: fauaccess Password: fauaccess Confirm Password: fauaccess After the above information is successfully entered, select the Save button. Please refer to the following image. After the FAU connection entry is created, please refer to section 2.2 Initiate the VPN connection. VPN Client Installation Guide Page 12
Note: If you have a router between your computer and the Internet, you must first determine if the router allows, VPN Pass-through. If the router does not support this feature, you may not be able to connect to the FAU Network from behind your router. VPN Client Installation Guide Page 13
