Welcome to the Training Programme 2014 2015 Welcome to the Early Years and Childcare Training Programme. This year s programme has been developed to reflect key changes and priorities within early years and childcare for settings and schools. Further training will be planned throughout the year, which will be included in our updates. The updates are sent to you by email and can also be found on www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/eyc. As you are aware there have been significant changes in the sector, therefore all information is correct at the time of publication but may be subject to change. Target audience This year s programme has a wider target audience and you will see new audience codes above each course. (Please see page 7 for explanation) This means that courses are open to a wider range of practitioners from the children s workforce. It will give you an opportunity to network and share each others experiences. Please read the carefully to ensure that the course is right for you. Many of the courses are now available to school governors or committees to increase their knowledge and understanding of our sector. Suggested training pathways This year we have included some suggested training pathways according to roles in the private and voluntary sector. These are only suggestions for ongoing professional development, you can access any course appropriate for your role and type of setting, unless otherwise stated in the course details. Booking fees In most cases I am pleased to confirm that the subsidised booking fees will remain the same for this financial year. Unfortunately, we have had to introduce a non-attendance fee this year, which is reflective of the actual course cost. This is because we often have waiting lists for courses and we feel that it is unfair to people on the waiting list if people do not attend without cancelling. It does not give us an opportunity to offer that place to people on the waiting list. See page 9 for further details. Funded Twos training We are continuing to offer a range of training to Funded Twos settings, a significant proportion of which is free of charge if you offer Funded Twos places. Using this training programme Booking Procedures for 2014 2015 Dates for submitting booking forms are as follows: Autumn term from now Spring term from 1 November 2014 Summer term from 1 February 2015. Please read the following information thoroughly. Course Bookings Course bookings are made on a termly basis with the exception of conferences. Application dates are shown above. Bookings can be taken for courses up to the day before the course where space allows. You will receive a booking confirmation by email. If you have not heard from us one week before the start date please contact us, do not just turn up to the course. Alternatively if you do not contact us to chase your booking and do not attend you will be charged a non attendance fee which reflects the actual course cost and not the booking fee. All courses are subject to a fee unless stated otherwise. Fees will differ according to your type of setting. If you do not attend a course that is free of charge you will be charged a non attendance fee which reflects the actual course cost. This will only be waived in exceptional circumstances, to apply for a fee waiver you must apply in writing to the Early Years Workforce Development Manager and send to the address below. All booking fees are non refundable except in circumstances where we have cancelled a course and not rebooked it. We reserve the right to cancel courses which have low numbers. Please complete one booking form for each person. It is important that you complete the form in full. If you do not supply all the information required your booking may be delayed. Booking forms must be sent within the dates specified. If you send a form that includes dates 8 outside of the correct timescale you will be contacted and required to resubmit the form on the correct date. We do not retain these forms in the office or return them to you. Places on all courses are limited to four per setting unless stated otherwise. The limit is two per setting on designated/named person courses (SENCo induction, SENCo Refresher, Equal Opportunities, and Child Protection designated personnel) and two on First Aid and Food Safety Courses. Please ensure that the email address you provide on your booking form is correct and up to date. Please read the letter carefully, often there may be notes on the confirmation letter that provide important information with regard to venue, start times and pre-course reading etc. Unless otherwise stated lunch will not be provided on any training courses. If you have not received a response to your booking one week before the course please check your junk mail/spam folder. If the email is not in there please contact us. Do not just assume that you have been unsuccessful in securing a place, we will always contact you even if the course is full. If you do not contact us and fail to attend you will be charged.

Using this training programme Training Course Cancellation Procedure All courses are subject to a booking/administration fee unless otherwise stated. The cost of the course will be differentiated by the sector you work in. If you are unable to attend a course you have booked onto you may transfer that place to another member of staff providing that the replacement member of staff is eligible to attend the course i.e. has a job role that is appropriate for the training. An additional administration fee of 10 per change will apply. You must inform the Early Years Workforce Development Team team by email that you are sending another practitioner unless the timescale does not allow. If you cancel your place on the course and do not send a replacement member of staff you will be charged the full course fee unless you notify us more than three weeks before the course. This fee covers administration and booking costs. Waivers of any charges will only happen in the following circumstances: We have cancelled the course. We have changed the venue, date or time of the course and you are unable to make the new date, time or venue. You MUST notify us if a practitioner is not attending a course. Often we have a waiting list and may be able to offer the place to another learner. Therefore, if you or a member of your staff does not attend training and does not inform us in advance, and you do not send a replacement you will be invoiced for the full cost of their place. Cancellation of courses including those that are free of charge Cancellation and non-attendance charges will apply to all courses including those that are free of charge. Cancellation charges will reflect the length of the course, your sector and what the normal course cost would be for your sector.* Please inform us with as much notice as possible if you are unable to attend the course so we can offer the place to someone on the waiting list. *Less than 3 weeks 100% of the cost of the course 3 6 weeks 0-50% More than 6 weeks no charge. Non-attendance fees for all courses including those that are free of charge If you have not received a confirmation letter do not assume that you have not been allocated a place. Ring and check to see if you are booked onto the course. If you do not attend a course and do not inform us in advance, and you do not send a replacement you will be invoiced for the full non-subsidised cost of the place. Non-attendance charges below will reflect the length of the course, your sector and what the non-subsidised delivery cost is for your sector* Two hour/half-day courses 40 Full day courses 80 Please note if the course is a two day course you will be charged twice the full day cost. Payment Policy If you do not send a cheque with your booking form we will invoice your setting/school for the booking fee. If your setting/school does not pay invoices on time you may be prevented from booking onto or attending other courses until the invoice is settled. 9

Using this training programme Designated/Named Persons in settings guidance for early years and childcare settings Cambridgeshire County Council recognises the importance of designated, appropriately trained key personnel in each setting as a significant feature in ensuring quality. We strongly recommend that you ensure that your setting has suitable appropriately trained people undertaking these roles. In each of your provisions (excluding childminders) there should be a designated person for: Child Protection Special Needs (SENCo) Equalities (named person) (ENCo) The designated/named person in each of these areas should be a senior member of staff (Level 3 with at least two years post-qualifying experience) who is on site. It is important that part-time and shift hours are covered, so there may need to be more than one designated person for each area of work in a setting. This Training Programme offers courses for the above roles which reflect the associated responsibilities, current best practice and legislation. These courses highlight local reporting and recording procedures which must be followed by Cambridgeshire settings. Designated Persons should update their training every three years by attending a Refresher Course. For Child Protection Designated Persons we would recommend that in addition they should also access courses validated by the Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB). Information can be found at www.cambslscb.org.uk There is a bursary scheme in place for private, voluntary and independent (PVI) early years and childcare settings undertaking Designated/Named Person training courses in this training programme. Please see below for information of how to claim the bursary. The claim form is on page 118 Childminders Childminders should access the Childminder Support Sessions that are arranged: Safeguarding Children Child Protection Special Educational Needs Equalities This training should be updated every three years. Bursaries not available for these courses. Claiming a bursary PVI How to claim your bursary Designated/Named Person courses (Child Protection, Equal Opportunities, SENCo) Complete the form prior to attending training. Take the form to the training session and ask the trainer to sign it, bursaries will not be paid without a trainer signature. The form cannot be signed after the course, so please do not forget this. You must return the form to us within one calendar month of attending the course or by 18 March 2015, whichever is soonest. Claims outside these timescales cannot be processed. Each setting may claim a maximum of two bursaries for each Designated/Named person course every three years. An exception will be made if the Designated/Named person leaves the setting. The bursary is to be used by the setting towards staff cover costs and travel expenses. PLEASE NOTE: The bursary fund is limited and bursaries will only be paid subject to available funding. 10

Frequently asked questions How do I find the Early Years And Childcare Training Programme and booking/bursary forms online? Go to www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/eyc. Follow the menu link to Workforce Development. On the Workforce Development page, follow the link further down the page to Training Programme. I have chosen the courses that I would like to attend what should I do next? You should complete the booking form that can be found in the back of the training programme or on the website www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/eyc. Courses are booked on a termly basis. How do I know which courses are appropriate for my job role? Check the section on the course information. The key for the symbols can be found on page 7. You must also check that the course you are applying for is appropriate for your job role and qualification level. When will my booking form be processed? All booking forms are processed strictly in date order of receipt. At peak times it may take some time before you hear from us. If you do wish to check we have received your form please contact us by email rather than telephone where possible. Can I book online? Currently we are unable to take bookings online. However you can send your booking form by email or fax. An interactive booking form can be found on our website www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/eyc. Complete the form and send to eyctraining@cambridgeshire.gov.uk. Can I book courses over the phone? We do not take bookings over the phone other than in exceptional circumstances. How do I know that I have been booked onto the course? Joining instructions will be emailed to you if we hold a current email address for you or posted if we do not. If the course is full you will receive a letter advising you are on the waiting list. Please read your letter carefully, there may be special instructions or details about the course that you need to be aware of. What if I do not receive a confirmation letter? Can I still attend the course? You must email or call the Early Years and Childcare Workforce Development Team on 01223 706349 to check if you have been booked onto the course. Please do not attend the course unless you have received confirmation that you have been booked on. I applied for a course by email and haven t heard anything what should I do? If you have not received a response to your booking one week before the course please check your Junk mail/spam email folder. If the email is not in there please contact us. Do not just turn up to the course or assume you have not been successful in securing a place. How do I pay for the course? You can send a cheque with the booking form or your setting will be invoiced. I am unable to attend a course I have booked, what should I do? If a colleague is attending in your place please contact us to advise. If you cannot fill the space please contact the Early Years and Childcare Workforce Development Team on 01223 706349 as soon as possible as there may be a waiting list. If you do not contact us and do not attend, your setting manager may be notified and this could affect future bookings. 11

Frequently asked questions Why should we inform you if a person is not attending a course when we know we will be charged a cancellation fee anyway? For settings and childminders in particular the payment for courses is a nominal amount to cover the cost of administration, it is a booking fee. We subsidise all courses and have limited funds to do so. The amount that we charge for cancellation does not cover the actual course place cost, which is significantly higher than the booking fee. By informing us of non-attendance in advance we will be able to offer the place to other practitioners on the waiting list. I have been placed on a waiting list for a course. How will I know if another course has been arranged? The Early Years and Childcare Workforce Development Team will write to you when another course has been arranged. If you do not hear from us you must reapply for the course in the next term. Are waiting lists carried over to the next term? No. It is your responsibility to submit another booking form. I really enjoyed my course. Can you deliver this course at my setting? We are able to deliver some courses in this way. Please contact us for further information. I would like extra support to put into practice what I learnt on my course in my setting/school. Please see information about the Early Years Service offer to Support Quality Improvement at www.learntogether.org.uk I am a designated person for Child Protection/Special Needs/Equalities in my setting and I have attended training. Can my setting claim a bursary? Yes the setting can claim a bursary. Please see page 10 for further information. I have completed my Early Years Foundation degree, how do I progress to the next stage? On completion of your foundation degree you should apply for a top up to full degree and then move onto Early Years Initial Teacher Training (see details on page 24). Do you fund the Honours Degree? We regret that due to budgetary restrictions we are unable to fund honours degrees. 12

Quality statement All providers of qualification training included in this programme have signed up to the Early Years Workforce Development Team Quality Statement and Agreement. Through the statement and the monitoring and evaluation of courses we aim to ensure that training: meets the individual needs of the participants is well planned is delivered by well-qualified and experienced trainer/s is open to monitoring and evaluation complies with the Early Years Equalities Policy by: ensuring equality of access; and integrating equalities issues into all training. A copy of the quality statement and agreement is available on request from the Early Years Workforce Development Team. Subject to funding criteria and availability we may offer qualifications funding towards identified qualifications training offered by the listed providers. Code of conduct for attendees We want the training to be enjoyable and beneficial for all people attending and therefore set out the following: Always let the Early Years Workforce Development Team know if you are unable to attend (the place can be offered to somebody else). Please see cancellation policy on page 9. Ensure that you arrive on time for the course. It may be possible that if you arrive late you will not be able to stay for the session. You must attend the full course. We cannot certificate you for attendance if you leave early. We will inform the Manager of the setting when a learner is not certificated giving them the reason why. Respect confidentiality about issues raised in the training. Actively listen and respect other people s views (both trainer and other delegates). Engage and contribute to discussion, but ensure others are equally able to contribute. Respect the opinions and experience of others. Challenge discriminatory attitudes and behaviour. Qualifications 24+ Advanced Learning Loan Please note: This information is correct at the time of going to print. Learners must contact the college or training organisation where they are considering studying regarding the 24+ Learning Loan. From 2013/14, 24+ Advanced Learning Loans will be available for learners: Aged 24 and over Studying at Level 3 or Level 4 and Advanced and Higher Apprenticeships. Level 3 and 4 courses include QCF Certificates and Diplomas, Access to HE Diplomas and A levels. Diplomas and A levels Learners (not employers) can apply for a loan to help meet the cost of their course, which will be paid directly to the college on their behalf. The loans will not be means tested and will not be subject to credit checks. The employer is expected to contribute 50% to the cost of the Apprenticeship training, but training provides values and recognises the many contributions of employers towards training Apprentices, so sets its fees in full awareness of this at competitive market levels. On top of that, employers can also make voluntary payments for part or the whole of the loan amount on behalf of their employees. If an employer makes student loan repayments on behalf of an employee, or makes a lump sum payment to write off the full amount, then the tax treatment is the same as for any other type of loan. The amount paid off is subject to tax and National Insurance Contributions (NICs) as employment income in the hands of the employee. The maximum loan amount for an Apprentice is set at 50% of the total cost of the Apprenticeship; this reflects the required contribution from you as their employer. The minimum loan amount is 300. Loan repayments are collected through the tax system and the first repayments will commence in April 2016 (for those leaving their course before April 2016). Loan repayments will only start when the individual has left their course and is earning over 21,000 a year. Repayments are set at 9% of income and there will be a single payment irrespective of the number of loans a learner has taken out. Further information on 24+ Advanced Learning Loan can be obtained from your training provider Further information is available from the government website www.gov.uk/advancedlearningloans Apprenticeships Funding may be available for learners undertaking an apprenticeship programme. Contact individual training providers for further details. Their contact details can be found on page 26. What is an Apprenticeship? Apprenticeships are open to all age groups and allow employees to earn a wage alongside experienced staff to gain job-specific skills. Employment will normally be a minimum of 30 hours per week. The programme at Level 2 and Level 3 includes Employment Rights and Responsibilities, Personal Learning and Thinking Skills and functional skills in English, Maths and ICT. (Minimum duration is 12 months). An apprentice is employed at a low cost within a setting and studies for a qualification and functional skills by attending college regularly. The employer must provide a mentor to support the apprentice s learning within the setting and ensure that the apprentice is released to attend college. The apprentice s practice is then assessed in the workplace as part of their qualification. The benefits to the employer are: 14

Qualifications motivated staff employed at a low cost a skilled workforce which should improve the quality of the setting and better outcomes for the children at the setting. The apprenticeship system is currently under review. Please access the website for most current information www.apprenticeships.org.uk or your local training provider. Graduate Leader Programme Early Years Professional/Teacher The setting premium is a payment to support good and outstanding settings with a member of staff who has achieved Early Years Teacher Status (EYT) or Early Years Professional Status (EYP). If your setting is in the private or voluntary sector and employs an EYP/EYT who works directly with the children you may be eligible for a premium. Please note: Funding for this programme is limited and subject to funding criteria. We cannot consider any applications when all funding has been utilised. Telephone: 01223 706350 Email: eycqualifications@cambridgeshire.gov.uk Early Years Workforce Development Programme for Funded Twos settings Continuous Professional Development Selected continuous professional development courses are offered free of charge for settings and are offering places for funded two-year-olds The courses which have been identified to be offered free of charge are based on needs identified by settings and the Early Years Service. The aims of these courses are to develop the skills and knowledge of practitioners to enable them to support funded two-year-olds and their families. These courses are identified throughout this training programme. Please note: Selected courses would also be suitable for committees/owners/ school governors to increase their knowledge and understanding of the needs of funded twos children. Please book early to avoid disappointment. Leadership and Management Strong leadership and management is key to providing a high quality environment to meet the needs of children and their families. Qualifications Early Years Workforce Development Team Qualification Funding Arrangements April 2014 March 2015 A limited amount of Qualification funding is available for childcare practitioners working in the private, voluntary or independent sector. Funding is available for identified qualifications such as the Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator), the Level 3 Award/Certificate/Diploma in Playwork. We also offer support towards the Early Years Degree for childcare practitioners working in the private, voluntary or independent sector who have the aspiration of becoming an Early Years Teacher in the Early Years Sector. PLEASE NOTE: We do not provide any additional funding towards cover costs for settings with a practitioner undertaking the Early Years Degree. All funding is subject to budgetary restrictions and funding criteria, funding for the first year of a degree does not guarantee funding for future years. Qualifications Courses Level 2 Certificate in an Introduction to Early Years Education and Care (QCF) This qualification is suitable for a range of learners from the age of 16 onwards who have little or no experience in childcare. What will the qualification cover? The aim of this qualification is to prepare learners to work with children between birth and five years, with knowledge of children up to seven years. Learners could also progress on to the Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) This qualification opened for registrations from 1st March 2014. Learning outcomes will include: An understanding of: The Role of the Early Years Practitioner Legislation, framework and professional practice relating to Early Years Play, development and learning for school An opportunity to: Undertake Professional Development Progress on completion to job roles such as nursery, pre-school or classroom assistants and nannies Assessment: All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods. Qualifications Courses Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) (QCF) This qualification is suitable for a range of learners from the age of 16 years onwards who are currently working in early years education and care. What will the qualification cover? The Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) prepares learners to become Early Years Educators, enabling them to work with children from birth to 5 years and gain knowledge of children aged 5 to 7 years. Upon achievement of this qualification it is intended that learners will be able to enter the workforce as Early Years Educators. Practitioners must have GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above to undertake the qualification. This qualification will be open for registrations from 1st September 2014 and replace the existing Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People s Workforce. Qualifications Courses Level 3 Award/ Certificate/ Diploma in Playwork This qualification is suitable for staff who are working in the Playwork profession at assistant or supervisory level. What will the qualification cover? Learners will attend underpinning knowledge sessions during term-time to study a number of units to achieve the qualification. We require that candidates attend at least 80% of sessions. Learning outcomes will include: The theories and principles of how children play and how to support the needs and rights of children to create diverse, inclusive play environments. How to support children and young people to manage risk, establishing and maintaining links with other organisations and individuals, and organisational frameworks. Understanding and supporting children and young people to plan for self-directed play. Working with parents/carers and families and working with colleagues in a playwork team. Assessment methods: All units are internally assessed. Methods of assessment will include: Direct observation of learners practice. Inference of knowledge from direct observation of practice. Qualifications Courses Level 3 Award in Transition to Playwork (from Early Years) QCF This qualification is based on the National Occupational standards for Playwork and has been developed for early years practitioners who hold a current and up to date Level 3 early years qualification and would like to broaden their knowledge and work in playwork settings. What will the qualification cover? The qualification has two units and learners are required to complete written tasks. The course will last twelve weeks and is delivered in term-time. Learning outcomes include: The theories and principles of play. How to support the needs and rights of children to create diverse, inclusive play environments. Consider ways to support children and young people to manage risk. To develop a knowledge of the importance of establishing and maintaining links with other organisations, individuals, and organisational frameworks. Assessment and course duration: The qualification will be pass or refer and is internally assessed. Learners are required to complete and pass two reflective written tasks to complete the course. Qualifications Courses Early Years Foundation Degree This foundation degree provides those who are already working with children with an opportunity to develop professional understanding, knowledge, and key skills while still working. Entry requirements Learners will have an appropriate Level 3 Childcare Qualification, Level 2 English qualification (GCE, GCSE grade C or above), CSE grade 1 or Level 2 Adult Literacy, access to a suitable children's and young people's working environment and a minimum of 400 hours working in a suitable children's workforce environment this is flexible and the breadth of students' expertise/experience will be considered. What will the qualification cover? This degree will appeal to practitioners who have an interest in gaining in-depth understanding of how opportunities of learning influence growth and development within different age-ranges and settings. Learners will explore aspects of physical, social, emotional and cognitive development and current policies and practices, using examples drawn from the UK and elsewhere. There are no formal written examinations. Each module will be assessed using methods such as short presentations, assignments, reflections on observations or work-based tasks. A mentoring programme and regular tutorial opportunities will support learners with their course work. For learners who wish to become an Early Years Teacher, they must then top up their qualification to a full degree before undertaking the Early Years Initial Teacher Training. Several top up options are available, subject to available budget and learners meeting funding criteria. Qualifications Courses Early Years Professional Practice (Top-up) Course overview The Early Years Professional Practice degree has been designed around both an Early Years philosophy and the demands of employers in the Early Years sector. Modules focus on the contextual nature of early childhood and its relevance to policy, practice and service provision, set in a work-base enquiry approach to learning. The teaching and learning approach is developmental, enabling students to revisit and consolidate progress throughout the course. Students will further master skills in analytical study and investigation, and will build on their reflective capacity as a practitioner; it is aimed that they will be able to visualise change and instigate it, skills valued highly in the employment sector. As a graduate in the BA Early Years Professional Practice course you will be ideally placed to pursue a career within the Early Years sector. The course is structured so the students are able to investigate the link between theory and practice, evaluating and analysing the influences on the early childhood sector. There are two year-long modules which enable the students to pursue an interest of their own choosing, and to consolidate a record of their professional development. Qualifications Courses Foundation Degree in Early Years Distance Learning You must be a current practitioner (paid or voluntary) with at least six months full-time or 12 months parttime experience of working with young children in a registered early years setting. You must be at least 18 years of age at the date on which you begin studying for this qualification. If you wish to claim accreditation of prior learning (APEL) you must be an experienced practitioner with at least three years full-time or five years part-time experience in a registered early years setting. You must be at least 21 years of age at the date on which you begin studying for this qualification. While studying the core modules, you must be: Working in a registered setting with young children aged from birth to seven years following the Early Years Foundation Stage or Key Stage 1 in either a paid or voluntary capacity Directly involved in activities to support young children s care and learning for a minimum of five hours a weekable to work with groups of three or more children on a regular basis. You must have the agreement and support of your employer/supervisor before registering for this qualification. Your employer must complete a Permission Agreement Form to confirm their support for your study, that you meet the pre-requisites to study the core modules, and to verify your experience. Fees: contact the training provider contact information on page xxx Start Training Provider Location Rolling programme Open University Distance learning Funding for the Early Years Degree We currently have a very limited amount of funding for new learners on the Foundation Degree in Early Years. Funding is available for learners in the private voluntary and independent early years sector who are committed to completing an Early Years degree and then moving onto the Early Years Teacher Status course. The practitioner must have an interest in improving practice within their setting, work directly with the children and be willing to support other settings if required. Practitioners must demonstrate commitment to staying in the Early Years Sector on completion of their training. Funding is allocated subject to criteria on a year by year basis and there is no guarantee of future funding levels. Practitioners should also be able to access a student loan or support from their setting if necessary. On completion of the Foundation Degree, learners must top up to a full degree before moving onto train as an Early Years Teacher see page 24. 23

Qualifications Courses Early Years Initial Teacher Training (EYITT) EYITT is focused on high quality care and education for the birth to five age range and leads to Early Years Teacher Status. To achieve Early Years Teacher Status by the end of the training programme, you will need to be able to demonstrate the Teachers Standards (Early Years) across the birth to five age range. Early Years Teachers will be specialists in early childhood development, trained to work with babies and young children from birth to five. Early Years Teacher Status is awarded to graduates who are leading education and care and who have been judged to have met all of the Teachers Standards (Early Years) in practice from birth to the end of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Entry Requirements Entry requirements include GCSE Grade C and above (or recognised equivalent) in maths, English and science and, for the Graduate Entry and Assessment only routes, a degree on entry. The degree can be from any area of study. Before starting the course applicants will be required to pass the Professional Skills Tests for trainee teachers. Routes to Early Years Teacher Status for September 2014 For September 2014, there will be two funded routes to Early Years Teacher Status, both of 12 months duration. Routes 1, 2 and 4 require a degree on entry, as well as GCSE in English, maths and science at grade C or above. 1. Graduate Entry (Mainstream) 2. Graduate Entry (Employed) 3. The most appropriate routes for practitioners currently working in early years settings are: 2. Graduate Entry (Employed) This route is for graduates who are either: A) Already employed in an early years setting/early years department of a school B) Newly recruited to an early years setting/early years department of a school to undertake Early Years Initial Teacher Training through an employment based route. Also included is a two week Key Stage 1/Key Stage 2 school placement. An employer incentive of 7000 is provided. Funded places are available includes financial incentive for employers towards salary/release/support for the trainee. 24

B) They will be experienced in an early years role and can demonstrate all the Teachers Standards (Early Years) across the birth to five age range. C) This route will explain how to present your evidence that you meet the standards and include an assessment process. It is likely to take approximately three months for you to put together your evidence. D) Not funded Cost: 1950. Equalities and Inclusion Training to meet the needs of specific settings (Bespoke Training) Bespoke training is usually provided for a setting or cluster of local settings, to allow for a whole staff approach to develop best practice around creating positive relationships and enabling environments for children with SEND. The Area Special Educational Needs Coordinators (Area SENCo) can discuss your setting s training needs during their visit, and advise on what might be relevant for all staff. This may have been identified in your planning using the Early Years Quality Framework, part of a rolling programme for staff training or result from the identified needs of a child or group of vulnerable children. The Early Years Support for learning team work closely with EYFSAs, Children Centres and Early Support colleagues e.g the Speech and Language Therapy Service to ensure a coordinated approach. The training may be provided by any of the Support for Learning Team (your Area SENCo, a Sector Support Worker, an Early Years Specialist Support Teacher) or an Educational Psychologist and any relevant professionals. Some areas for bespoke courses are listed below, but we can tailor additional courses to meet the needs of your setting and staff: Encouraging Positive Behaviour in the Early Years Setting a Preventative Approach Participants will explore the way that positive approaches can lead to a calmer and more effective management of behaviour in the setting. It will focus on setting appropriate boundaries with all the children, and how staff can work together for positive outcomes. Supporting Speech, Language and Communication This bespoke course will focus on speech, language and communication for children with additional needs, recognising that it is at the heart of young children s learning. It builds on good practice from the EYFS (Development Matters) and practitioners understanding of typical child development, to further develop practice and implement strategies for children who have significant difficulties. Introduction to Autism A course for settings to introduce the characteristics of Autism. This will complement the Inclusion Development Programme for Autism which provides a good starting point for staff. A copy should be available in your setting. Those who undertake this role should have good interpersonal skills in working collaboratively with parents/ carers and professionals and an interest in increasing their knowledge around SEND. Aim To enable participants to acquire the necessary skills, knowledge and strategies for the SENCo role. Content Over the course of training participants will gain an understanding of their roles and responsibilities in implementing the SEND Code of Practice 2014. It will support participants to: Identify support for children where there are emerging concerns, planning timely interventions. First Aid and Food Safety Auto-Injector Pen Training This training is for settings who have a child starting who has an auto-injector pen. Prior to booking onto the training it is important that the setting manager or designated SENCo check their insurance policy. If the insurance policy states that training must be carried out by a registered health professional, organise for as many staff as possible to attend an auto-injector pen session, prior to the child starting at the setting. Agree with your insurance company that your arrangements are acceptable, and ask them to confirm in writing. The session will be carried out by a registered health professional. Staff will be instructed on how to administer an auto-injector pen for the child named on the care plan. You must take the child s care plan to the session. Staff must also attend First Aid Training. Early Years Foundation Stage Using Every Child a Talker (ECAT) Materials and Resources in Early Years Settings funded EY/PV SCH twos 2 This two-day training course is suitable for qualified and experienced staff in early years settings, nursery schools and nursery classes. Every Child a Talker is an initiative for the whole setting so the participant must feel confident to feed back to other staff members and have the support of management staff. This training is very popular and therefore is for settings and schools who have not already been trained in ECAT. Courses for More Experienced Practitioners and Staff Leadership Responding to feedback from the successful Moving Forward Leading Change training, we have developed the leadership and management training into a series of shorter modules which we hope will enable you to select sessions to meet your needs. Courses for Childminders Early Years Workforce Development Programme for Childminders Last year saw a significant increase in the number of childminders attending training. Where possible we endeavour to offer training at the evenings and weekends however, we are sometimes restricted by trainer availability. We also need to meet the timing requirements of other practitioners within the sector with a limited budget. Childminders can access training throughout the county. Where possible we endeavour to put Saturday courses on in a central location. Childminder Support Sessions The Childminder Support Sessions are facilitated by the PACEY team. These are free of charge to childminders however, a cancellation charge of 20 per session will be charged for cancellations or nonattendance. No bursaries are available for attendance at these sessions. Continuous Professional Development Courses A wide range of Continuous Professional Development courses (CPD) are available for childminders to book onto to develop skills and knowledge. These courses are charged at the private/voluntary course rate. Childminders who offer places for Funded Twos children Childminders who offer places for Funded Twos children may access selected training free of charge. These courses are identified throughout the training programme. Please see page 3 of this training programme for further details. We have also planned some higher level CPD training such as Unlimited Learning, Every Child a Talker for Childminders, and the Elizabeth Jarman courses. Courses for Childminders Every Child a Talker (ECAT) for Childminders Every Child a Talker is a national initiative which support children s communication and language development Aim: funded CM twos 2 The course will develop practitioners knowledge of how young children s language develops and ways to improve their communication and language skills. Content: This training will cover the skills needed to assess, record and monitor children s language development using the Cambridgeshire ECAT Guidance and monitoring tool. It will help develop the skills to support colleagues through peer monitoring and coaching, and consider how the physical environment influences children s speech, language and communication. The rate is 50 per course, up to a maximum of 150 per setting (this amount is subject to availability of funding and may be subject to review).
