HOPE Scholarship Changes for Class of 2018 HOPE Academic Rigor Requirements Beginning with the High School Graduating Class of 2017; High school coursework must include a minimum of four courses from the Academic Rigor Coursework list below. Academic Rigor Coursework: Advanced math, such as Advanced Algebra and Trigonometry, or an equivalent or higher course; Advanced science, such as Chemistry, Physics, Biology II, or an equivalent or higher course; Advanced Placement courses in core subjects; Courses taken at a unit of the University System of Georgia in core subjects where such courses are not remedial and developmental courses; Advanced Foreign Language courses. Advanced Academic Pathways Advanced Academic Pathways consist of state-approved courses in the four core content areas. Students can complete an Advanced Academic Pathway in English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and/or Social Studies. Students must complete the 4 required credits in one of the subject areas above. One of these courses must be an AP or college course that fulfills a core graduation requirement for the subject area. Students must earn credit in two sequential courses in one world language.
College Credit NOW! College Core Coureses PCHS students are currently enrolled in English 1101, 1102 & 2130, Math 1111 & 1127, Psychology 1101 and History 1111 with Central Georgia Technical College. CGTC instructors travel to our campus five days a week to teach these courses. After passing these courses, students could earn 7 high school credits and 21 college core credits this year! PCHS plans to increase the number of dual enrollment core academic courses and subject areas offered for the 2014-2015 school year.
College Credit NOW!! Technical College Certificate PCHS students are currently enrolled in welding courses with Central Georgia Technical College. Students take these courses at PCHS as a part of their regular class schedule. A CGTC instructor travels to our campus five days a week to teach these courses. These students will complete two Welding Certificates this year, Basic Shielded Metal Arc Welder Technical Certificate of Credit and Gas Metal Arc Welder Technical Certificate of Credit. Students who continue in the Welding program next year will complete additional welding certificates as they work towards completing requirements for a Welding and Joining Technology Diploma at CGTC.
Technical College Certificates Putnam County High School plans to increase the number of Technical Certificates of Credit offered by CGTC for the 2014-2015 school year. State Testing Requirements for Students beginning 9 th Grade in School Year 2013-14 Georgia High School Writing Test (GHSWT) The Writing test is offered in September and the subject area tests in March of the student s junior year. Students who do not pass on the first attempt of the tests have multiple opportunities to receive additional instruction, retest, and qualify for graduation before the spring of the twelfth grade. End of Course Tests (EOCT) The End of Course Tests (EOCT) are state required tests for certain courses including CCGPS Coordinate Algebra, CCGPS Geometry, US History, Economics, Ninth Grade Literature and Composition, American Literature and Composition, Biology, and Physical Science. The EOCT counts as the course final exam, which is 25% of the final grade for the semester in which the EOCT is taken.
