What Cityporto is An OPERATIONAL service for the delivery of goods in an urban area. Freight is consolidated in a Urban Distribution Centre, open to different transport operators. A fleet of hybrid and CNG vehicles makes the reduction of freight traffic and pollution possible.

General assumptions All the players involved, transport operators included, have agreed since 2004 that nowadays it is essential to face the urban distribution in innovative terms, that is to say: 1. with higher rationalization, transporting the same quantity of goods with less vehicles 2. with traffic regulations to support city logistics initiatives by the involved Municipalities 3. With an environment -friendly fleet

The role played by local Public Bodies Framework Agreement between the Municipality, the Province and the Chamber of Commerce of Padova, the local Public Transport Company (APS Mobilità), and Interporto di Padova Industrial Plan Local regulation for freight traffic favouring (publicly owned) Cityporto vehicles (which have no time limitations for loading/unloading and can enter reserved lanes used by buses) Public funding for the start-up (2004-2007) Law 36/99 Regione Veneto Regulations for the rationalization of freight transport and distribution aiming to reduce air pollution in urban areas Starting service of Cityporto Padova April 21, 2004

Cityporto s success factors Stakeholder involvement Full support by the Municipality Industrial plan focused on economic sustainability Participation on a voluntary basis Platform located close to the urban area Gradual steps Reliability and neutrality of the platform manager

The role of Interporto Padova Cityporto platform is located inside the freight village area of Interporto Padova, just 2 miles outside the City Centre and close to the major highways. Strategic location Availability of logistics platforms Neutral role with freight transport operators Development of a dedicated IT System for Cityporto services

Padova Cityporto model The freight transport operators entrust their goods to be delivered in the city centre Limited Traffic Zone and closer urban ring to Cityporto consolidation platform. IT System support the managing of the daily delivery plans: Cityporto eco-friendly vehicles leave the platform and cover the «last mile». They maximize their loading capacity, allowing a lower number of delivery trips.

Gruppo CLAS Study for the Ministry of Environment Interporto Padova Spa entrusted the Gruppo CLAS the drafting of a Study for Ministry of Environment with the aim to measure the environmental and transport efficiency benefits brought by Cityporto service in a two years period (2008 2010). The period analysed is 24 months, from July 2008 to June 2010 Number of deliveries performed: 122.170 Operative days : 485 Delivery trips (registered by tracking & tracing IT system): 6.306

Gruppo CLAS Study for Ministry of Environment The study pointed out a reduction of the delivery trip length and the total distance covered by freight vehicles, as follows (24 months period): Reduction of kms covered: Daily average reduction: Reduction of gas consumption (less freight transport vehicles circulating): Natural gas consumption of Cityporto CNG vehicles: 561400 km 1216 km/day 58200 litres 3904 kg

Reduction of Polluttants Over the period surveyed (24 months) Cityporto activity achieved a great reduction of pollutants, as follows: Carbon Dioxide CO2: 219.65 Tonn. Nitrogen Oxide NOx: 369 Kg Sulfur Oxide SOx: 72.8 Kg Volatile Organic Compounds VOC: 210.4 Kg Particulate Matter PM10: 51.4 Kg
