3 Introduction: Why Natural Gas? Available in large quantities. The natural gas network is connected to 28 governorates where gas is connected. It can be used in several fields such as power stations, fertilizers factories, houses and also as alternative fuel for vehicles. 2

5 Available Natural gas proven reserves in Egypt amounted to about 78.1 trillion cubic feet. It helps save the subsidy allocated to liquid fuel to be channeled to development projects. It decreases the emissions that impact environment and people s health. It provides the State s needs of liquid fuel. 4
6 Environment friendly & Clean Preserving the environment. Void of lead compounds & Sulfuric residuals. Decreasing the emissions resulting from burning. 5

9 Safe Natural gas is lighter than air and in case of leakage, it goes upwards. It doesn t burn in the normal air, as its ignition temperature is high (650 degrees. It isn t toxic or corrosive; so there are no health risks while utilizing it. - Being safe, it is used in fire trucks. 8

11 For the Individual: Economical - Saving 75% of the value of gasoline & 60% of diesel, as the price of a cubic meter of natural gas is 45 piasters versus 185 piasters for a liter of gasoline 92 & 110 piasters for a liter of diesel. - Prolonging the lifetime of the engine as there are no carbonic or lead residuals. - Prolonging the period of utilizing the spark plugs as no carbonic residuals are formed. - Increasing the period of utilizing oils as there are no sulfuric residuals. 10
12 As for the Government: The government directs almost L.E 60 billion to subsidize liquid fuels. When using CNGV, such fund may be utilized in national projects. The government also spends large amounts of money to remedy the results of pollution which affect the plants, animals & air and cause serious diseases to people. 11
13 A successful experience of The Egyptian Petroleum Sector in utilizing the Natural Gas as a Fuel for vehicles in Egypt 12
14 - For the first time in Africa and the Middle East, in year 1985, the Ministry of Petroleum started a project to utilize CNG in vehicles in an Oil Sector affiliated company. -Few years after the project s success, two other Oil Sector companies were opened to convert vehicles and establish CNG fueling stations. -The Ministry fixed the gas selling price at 45 piasters since 1995 till now. -In order to afford a special service to the CNG customers, other 4 private sector companies joined the business. 13 -The Ministry started a large project to replace old taxicabs with new ones operated by CNGV. -Now, Egypt is ranked among the 1 st 10 countries in the CNGV industry with 3.2 billion m3 gas sales, converted vehicles, 142 CNG fueling stations and 61 conversion centers.
15 - The efforts of the Ministry of Petroleum in the field of using natural gas as a fuel for vehicles: - Developing the State s resources of natural gas. - Studying the expansion of natural gas utilizations in the different fields. - Operating a lot of power stations and cement factories as well as replacing the old taxi vehicles with new ones powered by gas. - Applying the project of smart card to decrease the financial burden upon customers. 14
