Other requirements include a minimum GPA of 3.0, two letters of recommendation, and an essay on How You Plan to Use Your Education. Hickory High School PTSA DEADLINE: APRIL 17, 2015 The objective of this scholarship program is to offer funds that will be made available to deserving students who may or may not fulfill the stringent academic or athletic criteria that many other scholarship programs require. Applicants must have at least a 2.5 GPA and have been accepted to a college/university or vocational program. Hickory Middle School PTA DEADLINE: MARCH 20, 2015 This scholarship is offered to seniors who have attended Hickory Middle School, have at least a 2.5 GPA and have plans for higher education. Two $500 scholarships will be awarded. Hickory Middle School PTA Dr. Woody Koonce DEADLINE: MARCH 20, 2015 This scholarship is offered to seniors who have attended Hickory Middle School, have at least a 2.5 GPA and have plans for higher education. Students must be enrolled in the Teacher Cadet program. A $500 scholarship will be awarded. Hugo Owens Middle School PTSA Scholarship Program DEADLINE: APRIL 22, 2014 Open to high school seniors graduating from a Chesapeake Public School, must be an alumnus of Hugo Owens Middle, must been a PTA/PTSA member during attendance at Hugo Owens, must enter a college or university in August, and must have financial need. Jarrod Camper Smith Memorial Scholarship This scholarship is open to graduating seniors who have lettered in and are active members of a varsity high school soccer team. In addition, applicants must have played select travel soccer and have been accepted to an accredited college or university. There is an award of $2000. DEADLINE: APRIL 17, 2015 This scholarship is open to African-American female seniors who will graduate from one of the public high schools in Suffolk, Portsmouth, or Chesapeake. Applicants must have at least a 2.8GPA and show financial need for higher education. Norfolk & Portsmouth Bar Association Foundation DEADLINE: MARCH 2, 2015 The awarding of this year s scholarships will be based in part (50%) upon essays written by those students seeking to win a scholarship and in part (50%) by other factors such as need, grades and extracurricular activities. One $2,500 and one $1,000 scholarship will be awarded. Norfolk State University Alumni Association This scholarship is available to seniors who currently attend a Chesapeake Public School and have a minimum GPA of 2.7. Applicants must be accepted by NSU and intend to enroll for the fall 2015-2016 school year.

One winner will be chosen every two weeks from October 25, 2014 through May 9, 2015. It's FREE to enter and eligibility is not based on GPA or financial need. Applicants will be evaluated on four equally weighted categories: scholastic achievement, community service & extracurricular activities, hours

devoted to work to help with cost of education, and essay. Twenty-five $2,500 scholarships will be awarded. Virginia Department of Aviation-John R. Lillard Scholarship Program DEADLINE: MARCH 13, 2015 www.doav.virginia.gov Seniors applying for this scholarship must have at least a 3.75 unweighted GPA, must be planning a career in the field of aviation, and must be accepted into an aviation related program at an accredited college. A $3,000 will be awarded. Virginia Department of Aviation-Willard G. NORFOLK FBI DEADLINE: APRIL 6, 2015 Open to high school students between the ages of 15-16 by the contest deadline (4/6/15). The essay contest is an opportunity for Chesapeake high-school students to express their views on law enforcement collaboration with people of all faiths/ cultures. Students are requested to use the following guidelines for their entries. Essay Subject: Students are asked to write an original and creative essay that demonstrates how the power of working together around shared values can impact neighborhoods. Students should elaborate on ways people of all faiths can collaborate with law enforcement to improve their community. The maximum word count is 800 with a minimum of 500. The essay must include a cover sheet with the essay title, student s full name, student s phone number, student s home address, name of high school, and student s e-mail address.
