Background As one of the largest industrial conglomerates in Turkey, Borusan Holding s corporate art collection is the first and only one of its kind in the country. Emerging in the 1990s out of the Board of Director s passion for art, eye for investment and community spirit, the collection now holds more than 200 impressive artworks ranging from oil paintings and sculptures to videos, installations and photography.
Challenge Faced with an increasingly large collection of artworks, Borusan s content and inventory management system was no longer capable of supporting the complex, multi-faceted end to end process of sourcing, managing, curating, shipping and tracking artworks. With no suitable solution available elsewhere, Apppli worked closely with Borusan to design and develop a bespoke web and mobile business intelligence system to help the Borusan team manage the vast collection on the go and make more informed purchasing decisions. Solution Apppli worked with Borusan s team to design and develop a bespoke, cloud based art inventory management solution comprising of an iphone app and web portal with the following features: 1. Dashboard As the main interface between Borusan s team and the world of art, the dashboard provides a high level overview of the collection s key components. From pricing to availability and artwork category, the dashboard provides a snapshot of useful info and stats that different levels of users can peruse and analyse simply and effectively. 2. iphone Application With the collection being sourced from art exhibitions, auctions and collections worldwide, the ability to seamlessly upload, manage and evaluate information on the go was central to this project. Apppli designed and developed a bespoke iphone app that enables the collector to seamlessly upload photos and videos of the artworks to the central dashboard in a matter of moments. The curators are then instantly able to evaluate the artwork, add historical details and then relay this back to the collector, wherever there are in the world.
3. Collection Management With hundreds of different artworks in their collection, some of which on temporary loan to art establishments around the world, it was essential for the Borusan team to find a way to manage their vast art collection in a time-efficient, easy and user friendly way. Apppli designed a collection management platform that allows the Borusan team to publish, edit and update artwork content from a central page and manage their collection in a collaborative fashion. 4. Financial and Reporting In order to simplify and inform the purchasing process, the system was developed to support the tracking and reporting of market movements of any piece over a historical period. When uploading a new artwork to the system, users are able to enter a whole range of information from price today to its availability and potential buyers.
5. Back Office As a national treasure, Borusan s artwork is often displayed in, and purchased from, exhibitions and galleries worldwide. It is vital that the Borusan team know exactly where each individual, highly valuable artwork is at any given time. As such, Apppli developed a solution that enables the admin team to simply and effectively manage the shipping, logistics, tracking and insurance for every piece through the web portal.
