This Document The purpose of this document is to describe how to download and install the TAPI (Telephony Application Program Interface) available at the web Portal (voip.accsimple.com). TAPI will allow you to dial your phone directly from your Outlook Contacts on your PC. Download and Installation of TAPI Software To install and set up the TAPI software, complete the following steps: 1. Start Web Portal Open internet explorer and go to voip.accsimple.com 2. Enter your phone number and password 3. Click the Options 4. Click the PC Integration tab 5. Click the Install TAPI Service Provider to begin the installation P a g e 4
6. Choose where to save the TAPI.EXE file and click Save. Save the file to your Desktop do you can find it easily. 7. Find the TAPI.EXE file and double click it to run the install program. 8. When you run the program, a message may appear stating that the executable is from an unknown publisher. Click Run to continue the installation. P a g e 5
9. The next prompt asks you to confirm whether or not you want to run the TAPI software. Click Run. 10. The Install Shield wizard will start. Click Next in the Welcome dialog box to install the TAPI program. 11. Click Next to start the installation. 12. The next dialog box shows the progress of the installation, then select finish. 13. A Dialog box appears during the installation, complete the following steps to continue: a. Enter the IP addresses of the VoIP Server in the Telephony Server IP Address 1 and 2 fields. 212.187.206.45 b. Click Add, then enter your telephone number (the one that will be used to dial from Outlook) and password. 14. Click OK in the dialog box, then Click OK in the next dialog box 15. Click Finish in the Installation Complete dialog box to complete the TAPI program installation. P a g e 7
NOTE: Before you can dial from the Outlook, you must enable TAPI in Windows and Configure Outlook to use the IP telephone line. Co P a g e 8
Enable TAPI in Windows Use the following steps to set up TAPI for Windows. These steps are from Windows Vista, other Windows versions should be similar. 1. Click Start, Settings and Control Panel to open the Control panel window. 2. Double click Phone and Modem Options 3. Click Edit in the Phone and Modem Options dialog box. 4. In the Edit Location dialog box, click the General tab (if not selected) and do the following: P a g e 9
5. Click Apply a. Enter a Location name, if desired b. Make sure the Country/Region and Area Code information match your location and area code c. Set the outside access digits in the Dialling Rules section to number 8, see diagram above. 6. Click OK to accept the dialling properties and close the dialog box. You will now have returned to the Phone and Modem Options dialog box. 7. Click the Advanced tab to see the list of available telephone providers. P a g e 10
11. If you completed the VoIP setup as part of the TAPI install from Web Portal, you should see the VOIP Telephony Service Provider. If you cannot see the VOIP Telephony Service Provider, you need to complete Phase 1 of this instruction Manual. P a g e 11
Configuring Outlook to Use TAPI To configure Outlook so you can dial from your contacts using the TAPI program, complete the following steps: 1. Open Outlook 2. Browse to Contacts 3. Right click any contact to bring up the Actions pop-up menu. 4. Right on a contact and select Call Contact on the menu 5. Ne Contact Dialogue box will appear, Click Dialing Options to open the Dialing Options dialog box. P a g e 12
6. Click on the drop-down menu in the Connect using line field and scroll down any entries until you find your telephone number 7. Select your telephone number and click OK to return to the New Call dialog box. 8. You may call this contact or close the New Call dialog box. Outlook is now configured to place calls using your IP telephone number. P a g e 13
How to Make a call from Outlook Once you have configured Outlook to dial using the VoIP system, you can place calls through your telephone from the application. This example uses Outlook 2007, other versions will be similar to use To place a call from Outlook, use the following steps: 1. Start Outlook (if not already running). 2. Click the Contacts icon to switch to the Contacts listing. 3. Right click on the contact you wish to call and click Call Contact... 5. Click Start Call to dial the telephone number displayed in the Number field. NOTE: You cannot call four-digit extensions from Outlook, you must use a full phone number, including the area code and international suffix as the example below. P a g e 14
+44 02079933100 TIP: Always check to be sure you have the correct number selected before starting a call. If you have multiple phone numbers entered for the person you are calling, you must use the drop-down list to select the number to call. 6. The speaker on your telephone should be activated and you should hear ringing or a busy signal as the call is connected to the dialed number. 7. If the person you called answers, carry-on the conversation in the usual manner. NOTES Do NOT click the Close button or icon in the New Call dialog box during a conversation on the speakerphone. Closing the New Call dialog box while using the speakerphone will end the call immediately. Minimize the New Call dialog box or, if you need to close the dialog box, pick up the handset. Picking up the handset moves control of the call to the physical phone, away from the computer and Outlook P a g e 15
