CAISA M100 Course The Professional development of Estate Managers & management has been an area of concern since the first Estate was developed almost 30 years ago. The property boom and the development of Estates from 1994 to 2008 added to this and limited to no training & education were available. Estate managers & management were reliant on board members, developers and peers in the industry for any form of training & education related to the industry. The formation of ARC in 2008 and the formal agreement with CAI in the USA created new opportunity for everybody in the industry. CAI was formed in 1973 and offers over 15 courses to all its members. Their Professional Management Development Program addresses all aspects of Estate management and assist from entry level to large scale estates, Management companies, Lawyers, Reserve specialists, Board members, Homeowners etc. The M100 The Essentials of Community Association Management is the entry level to the program. Participants attend a 2.5 days course in a class room style environment. The Legal basis of an Estate, Financial management, Facilities management, Estate management, Leadership and Ethics forms the basis of this program. Work group exercises, practical examples and class room interactions equip participants with tools for the work place. The course exam consists of 100 online, multi-choice questions, 2 hours to complete and a 70% passing score. Almost 60 South Africans in the industry have entered and passed the M100 program. The M100 program will be presented again in 2014 in Gauteng and Cape Town. This will form the basis of training, education, transformation and professionalization of the Estate Management in South Africa in the future. Carols by Candlelight will be hosted on 21 December 2013, and the HOA is excited to start with the planning of this event. We will be doing a nativity play, and sing Christmas Carols to get in the proper festive mood. We will be needing children as volunteers to partake in our nativity play. Who will be Mary? Who will be Joseph Anybody who would be interested to take part is welcome to contact the HOA offices on 012 244 1900 or send an e-mail to communications@ pecanwoodhoa.co.za
During the run-up to the festive season many a private security company is put on heightened alert as criminal elements attempt to capitalize on the hard-earned gains by the business sector. It is at events such as the Protea Coin Group medal parade where security officers, and for that matter the industry, are reminded of the harsh reality and extent to which criminals are prepared to drop for their illbegotten gain. This year the annual medal parade of Protea Coin Group was held at their newly launched state-of-the-art security training academy Gijima, just outside Pretoria. The academy, which is the first of its kind in the security industry, hosted the handing over of 44 medals, which included medals for bravery and the cross of valour for fallen heroes. The event was witnessed by colleagues, relatives, friends and customers from across South Africa. On 2 November 2013 the HOA presented a frightening delightful event for both parents and children on the Estate, to go trick or treating. We had splendid attendance, and the difficult task of selecting the best dressed child and best dressed golf cart. The HOA would like to thank all that participated, dressed up and made up their golf carts and homes. We would also like to express our gratitude to those who treated the children with sweets the afternoon was a huge success due to your cooperation. ProteaCoin Medal Parade 9 October 2013 The awards were made for services rendered between July 2012 and June 2013 and which contributed significantly to the protection of the assets and lives of Protea Coin Group customers - this despite facing life threatening danger from criminals. At the time security officers rendered services in the Cash (Assets)-in-Transit, Mining Security, Estate Protection, Investigation, Reaction and Response Services environments. Crime Prevention medals were awarded to 11 security officers for taking immediate and decisive action during life threatening circumstances which led to preventing a crime from taking place Crime Combatting medals were awarded to 23 security officers who risked their lives by actively engaging in the combatting of crime Sadly the families of 10 sons, husbands and fathers who passed on during the execution of their duties too received the Cross of Valour. Trick or Treating on the Estate Incidents highlighted include the death of two colleagues who during separate incidents died at the hands of criminals as they attempted to rob them of their cash, and the death of another who was ambushed during a robbery at a mine. The CEO for Protea Coin Group also unveiled a memorial during the medal parade where the names of those who passed-on during the execution of their duties will be placed.
