FDC Hardware Product Family

Introduction Corning Cable Systems designed the original FDC product family to organize and manage high fiber count cross-connect and interconnect installations, primarily in rack-mount environments. For years, the FDC product family has been used in central office, headend, and private network installations throughout the telecommunications industry, allowing customers to have a versatile, modular fiber management system. Known for its wide range of termination options, ease of installation, pre-connectorized housings, and variety of equipment racks and rack components, the FDC product family has long been considered the pioneer product in Corning Cable Systems development of expertly designed distribution frames and interconnect hardware. Today s FDC Product Family Today s FDC product family incorporates design features that allow the product to better accommodate the changing requirements and growing needs of today s fiber optic networks. The FDC family of products includes three types of housings: connector housings that accommodate a wide range of termination options, splice housings that enable on-the-rack splicing, and FDC units that combine connector and splice housings in a single unit. The FDC product line also offers network bays, frame components, and accessories, allowing a complete package tailored to the needs of your installation. By improving on the original design, yet retaining features that will allow total compatibility with the old design, the FDC product family continues to set the standard for the future of interconnect hardware. When you select Corning Cable Systems, you can be assured of our commitment to quality products as well as prompt, courteous customer service and expert technical support. For all your fiber optic needs, please call Corning Cable Systems at 1-800-743-2675. FDC Product Specifications: FDC Units, Housings, and Other Components FDC Units Description Corning Cable Systems product line of FDC units is a family of housings combined for the splicing and termination of fiber optic cable. Designed to support both cross-connect and interconnect architectures, FDC units can be used in a wiring center as an interface to transmission equipment or in dedicated fiber frames where test access and reconfiguration are key requirements. FDC units combine the benefits of connector housings and splice housings into single units. These units use standard FDC panels and modules and are available in 24-, 72-, and 144-fiber capacities. FDC units are compact and modular, providing ample termination and splice storage capabilities. To improve quality and reduce installation time of these FDC units, Corning Cable Systems recommends factory-pigtailed connector panels or modules. Both are available with a variety of connector types and come complete with factory-installed and tested connectorized pigtails. These pigtailed units are ideal for use in FDC units to speed the termination of fiber cable and provide the consistent quality performance of factory-installed and polished connectors. FDC Product Specifications: FDC Units, Housings, and Other Components Stubbed Housings Description ZA-1646 FDC housings are available with a preconnectorized cable stub made from loose tube, tight-buffered, or ribbon cables. The stubbed option allows the splice point to be located in a splicing vault or at the building entrance point. The cable stub is typically shipped coiled on a reel and strain-relieved where it enters the housing. The factory-connectorized fibers terminate in the rear of the adapters. This complete factory-installed and tested assembly allows for fast, efficient installation of the patch panel and eliminates the need for conduit when stubbed with OFNR cable. This preconnectorized, stubbed housing also conserves rack space and offers the assurance of factoryquality connectors. Partially filled housings can later be completed by ordering a preconnectorized cable installed into modules or panels. These modules will snap into the existing housing to fill vacant positions. FDC Stubbed Connector Housing (FDC-CMH-072) Features / Benefits Fully assembled Fast, efficient installation Use of UL-listed cable eliminates the need for metal conduit Increases available space at the equipment rack by moving splices to a remote location Available with various fiber counts, connector types and cable styles Stubbed connector modules or panels allow incremental growth of housings Options Stubbed FDC housings include: Connector housing Connector panels or modules Adapters Connectorized cable of specified length Stubbed FDC connector panels include: Connector panels Adapters Connectorized cable of specified length Stubbed FDC connector modules include: Connector modules Adapters Connectorized cable of specified length 14

FDC Product Specifications: Frames and Components Distribution Bays: Corning Cable Systems FDF and UDF Description Features / Benefits Distribution bays offer a means of interconnecting, crossconnecting, and testing fiber optic cables. Distribution bays provide the user with a focal point for fiber optic cable termination and allow easy access to connections for efficient administration of fiber circuits. Corning Cable Systems offers two types of distribution bays: the Fiber Distribution Frame (FDF), and the Unequal Flange Distribution Frame (UDF). Modular design allows a variety of configurations Both the FDF and UDF bays feature an EIA industry standard hole spacing pattern that is compatible with both hardware and most industry-standard electronics Available pre-assembled with connector housings The versatile, modular design of the FDF and the UDF allows interchangeability of connector housings and splice housings within each rack. In addition, the FDF and UDF are both fully compatible with Corning Cable Systems complete line of fiber optic cables and hardware. FDC Product Specifications: Frames and Components Frame Components Routing Guides Routing guides work in combination with other frame components to organize and protect cables on the front and rear of the frame. Corning Cable Systems offers three types of routing guides: jumper routing guides (for the front of the frame), cable tie brackets (for cables on the rear of the frame), and vertical cable guides (for the front and back of the frame). Jumper Routing Guides ZA-090 Jumper Covers Jumper covers enclose fibers routing vertically between housings on an FDF bay. Jumper covers are made of a clear-tinted plastic that matches the doors on the connector module housings one set of covers (upper and lower half) can protect a 7-ft section on one side of the frames. Two sets of covers are required to cover the entire frame. Jumper covers are optional accessories and are not necessary for frame installation.
