Final Project Design Document William Franck Purpose: The purpose of my website is to showcase my ability to meet the requirements necessary for earning a Master s Degree in Instructional Technology from the University of Akron. To this end, I will demonstrate my proficiency at using technology as a tool to maximize my skills as an instructor both in practice and design. Visitors to my site will include Academic Advisors who will verify that my course work artifacts and field experience artifacts accurately reflect and meet the standards of the International Society for Technology in Education. Needs Assessment: In developing this website, I considered two key areas: The growth I have encountered as an educator while in the Instructional Technology Masters Program and the eportfolio requirements set by the University of Akron for the completion of this program. I perused the IT Master s Program Portal and examined examples of exemplary eportfolios. Understanding that this web site is a graduation requirement set by the college of education, I paid careful attention to design and content. The requirements stipulate that I must include artifacts that we have developed throughout my coursework as well as field experience. eportfolio must provide validation that I have acquired and mastered skills that align with the ISTE standards for 21 st century learning and instructional technology design. Audience: The primary group of visitors to my website will vary in age. They will share similar expertise and understanding of NETS- TF standards. Their appraisal of my work will determine my status as a Graduate from the Instructional Technology Masters program. The secondary group of visitors may include fellow IT students interested in evaluating my work as they prepare their own eportfolio. Content/Subject and its fit with web site goals: The University of Akron College of Education eportfolio requires specific content be included and standards met for course completion. The Information on my website will include: 1. Home Page- Introduction: included with this page will be: a. A professional- looking banner with an appropriate image and title b. A podcast that outlines the general purpose of the site c. A brief welcoming message with helpful information about the website d. A Navigation Bar with the following links: i. Competencies ii. About Me iii. Resume e. A link (icon) to contact me by email 1

2. Competencies link: This link will have a drop- down menu for: Leadership; Teaching & Learning; Design & Development; and, Professional Development. Each drop- down link will take the visitor to the corresponding webpage. Each of the corresponding webpages will contain course artifacts and field experience samples that address the requirements of the eportfolio. These artifacts shall demonstrate mastery of the NETS and may include: a. Video files b. Podcasts c. PowerPoints d. Prezi Presentations e. Documents f. Reflections g. Links to other Webpages (created by me) 3. About Me link: This link will have a drop- down menu for: Family; Career; and, Coaching. Each drop- down link will take the visitor to the corresponding webpage. Each of the corresponding webpages will provide a short description of that part of my life including images that illustrate the information provide. The webpage for Coaching will include: a. Link to websites that document my team s successes b. A link other wepages (created by me) for the team purposes 4. Resume link: This link will take the visitor to a corresponding webpage that highlights my accomplishments and provides information contained on my resume. A link for a PDF document of my resume will be prominently displayed for the visitor. Presentation of information: website design will be professional looking, organized, and user friendly with a pleasing, consistent color theme and uniform structure. The home page will include a photograph of myself with a brief overview of the site s purpose. The homepage will provide an email icon with link for contact purposes. A navigational toolbar will be placed under the banner with three choices: Competencies, About Me, and Resume. The Competencies and About Me links will have drop- down menus with links to related sub- pages. The competencies pages will be divided with a line in center of the page. One column will showcase coursework artifacts and the other will provide examples of field experience. Each linked page will include the option to return back to the home page. 2

Rationale for organization: After much consideration I have determined that combining the competencies would keep the look and navigation clean and simple. I also believe is valuable content and application for what I do in my career and coaching. Therefore combining my personal pages (family, career, coaching) under one link would help keep a clean organized look as well. The navigation bar will appear below the banner for each page to make navigating the site easier for the visitor. Media, acquisition or development, and rationale for using: Detailed description of media acquisition or development, and rationale for using it The media used for my website will be simple, engaging, have a purpose, and easy to use. The photos, videos, and audio will be chosen to enhance the website and showcase my coursework and learning in the graduate program. Color scheme and rationale: The color scheme for my website will reflect a professional, attractive look with the use of winter colors that complement the content on the page. The effect of minimal use of color will be to keep the website pleasing to the eye and keep the visitor focused on the material being presented and not distract from it. The background will be a light shade of gray. Dark blue will be used for frames and photos will be in black and white. The text box will be white and text within dark grey. Dark blue font will be used to title each page and will appear in front of the black and white image used for each banner of each different page.
