Introduction Welcome to Degree Works, the new degree evaluation system at NCCC. Degree Works provides a more accessible, convenient, and organized way for students to track their degree progress and plan the rest of their college career. Degree Evaluation is essential for students to track your progression toward degree completion and will be used for verification when the student files for graduation. Click on Degree Evaluation under Popular Links. c. See the section on Logging into Degree Works on pages Banner Web a. Log into Banner Web b. Click on Student & Financial Aid c. Click on the button at the bottom of the Welcome to Degree Works screen. 2. Enter your T-Wolves User Name Do not enter anything after symbol in your address (see example below). 3. Enter your T-Wolves Password. 4. Click Login 4

Degree Works Worksheet Icons Student View - Worksheet Header This section at the top of your degree evaluation will list your student ID, name, current degree and major. Student ID is not visible on evaluations due to confidentiality. If the degree and major information you see listed on your evaluation is incorrect OR you would like to change your major, you will need to contact Student Development (A131) to officially change your major. You can also submit a request to change your major online through Banner Web. Student View - Worksheet Bar This drop-down menu lists the different types of evaluations. Student View is the typical evaluation you will see upon log in. Registration Checklist only shows courses that still need to be completed. This view is helpful when preparing to meet with your advisor. When you choose a different view from the Format drop-down menu shown above, you will need to click View to display the format. This will allow you to either save the evaluation as a PDF or you can also print the evaluation from here to retain the formatting. This lists all completed coursework by term. This is similar to an unofficial transcript in Banner Web. 5

Navigation Icons At the top of the worksheet, you will find the following Navigation Icons: Clicking this icon will take you back to Banner Web. Clicking this icon will open Blackboard Learn in a separate browser. Clicking this icon will open the Degree Works FAQ page. This icon will open the NCCC website in a separate browser. This icon will open the printer options box. You can print an evaluation by clicking the Print icon, however, this is not the preferred method as the evaluation formatting may change in the print out. **See the section titled Printing an Evaluation in this guide for more information on printing an evaluation. You can click on this icon to log out of Degree Works. Don t forget to close your browser out completely after clicking Log Out. 6

Reading the Evaluation Student View Academic/Demographic Summary Section The Academic/Demographic Summary Section of the Degree Works evaluation gives you brief description of your standing within the college. This section offers information regarding: Academic standing Degree & major Address/phone number Credit hours GPA Advisor name & contact information Eligibility for Registration (Banner Web Registration Access Date) If you are accepted into a Dual Admissions program, your specific program code will appear in the Dual Admissions row with a link to additional Dual Admissions information on the NCCC website. Due to confidentiality, the Student ID number is not viewable in Degree Works and will appear on evaluations as shown in the picture below. 7

ing your Advisor You can your advisor directly from the evaluation by clicking on the advisor s name. This will then open an Outlook with the advisor s address populated in the To section of the . PLEASE NOTE: You must have Outlook set up for your on the computer you are using in order for this function to work. It is recommended that you use your T-Wolves Student if they are unable to their advisor from Degree Works. Key The key provides explanations for the various symbols you will find throughout the evaluation. The key can be found at the top and bottom of the evaluation. 8

Major Requirements The evaluation displays all the requirements that are needed to satisfy degree requirements. You will see that completed courses are highlighted in green and it lists the grade received and the semester the course was taken. Courses that are In-Progress will be a light blue color and lists an IP in the place of a grade. The IP will be updated to their earned grade once final grades are rolled to history at the end of the term. Any courses that are listed as Still Needed are still required to be completed. Completed In-Progress Not Completed In Progress courses can also be found listed at the bottom of the evaluation. 9

Courses Still Needed Degree Works simplifies searching for classes to satisfy an unmet requirement. For major requirements, the required course will be listed. For electives, a list of courses that can be taken to satisfy the elective requirement is listed for students and advisors to choose from. Whenever you see the ^ symbol, this indicates that the course has a pre-requisite. You can click on any course listed (as shown above) to view the course description from the catalog. Please note: When section information is listed at the bottom for the upcoming semester, it does include courses that are Temporarily Closed in Banner. We recommend referring to Course Offerings in Banner Web when planning your schedule since Banner Web only shows active courses. 10

Completed Requirements When all requirements have been completed, you will see checkmarks for all courses and areas. If your degree or certificate has been awarded, this will also be noted with a checkmark on your evaluation. Courses Ineligible for Graduation Requirements If you have taken courses that do not count for graduation requirements, they will be listed here. These consist of any courses that were withdrawn from, courses not passed, repeated courses, and foundations courses. 11

Courses Not Used Coursework taken that will not count towards the major requirements are listed here. One reason you may see courses listed here is if you ve changed your major and courses that you took for your previous major do not count towards your new major. Course Substitutions (Exceptions) If your advisor & Division Chairperson has approved a course substitution, it will be reflected in your evaluation once it has been input into Degree Works by the Registration & Records Office. Substitutions will appear in the Major Requirements area (as shown below). They will also appear listed at the bottom of the evaluation under Exceptions. 12

Notes Your advisor can add notes to your record. They will be viewable at the bottom of the evaluation. Test Scores Your placement test scores and/or Regents exam scores will be listed at the bottom of your evaluation. High School Transcript Information You will see information regarding the high school you attended and the date you graduated listed at the bottom of your evaluation. You may also see High School Regents course grade information as well. 13

Saving an Evaluation Saving an evaluation as a PDF This will allow you to save the evaluation outside of Degree Works to a directory that you select (i.e. Desktop, Flash Drive). At the top of the evaluation, click on Save as PDF The evaluation will pop up in a separate window in PDF format. This format is able to be saved to your computer or flash drive as a PDF file. This is also the preferred method for printing an evaluation as it will keep the formatting in place. 14

Printing an Evaluation The preferred method for printing an evaluation is to click Save as PDF. This will ensure that the formatting will remain in place. A separate pop up window will open. You will then click the printer icon from the PDF document as shown in the picture below. Please note: Because different versions of Adobe Acrobat work differently, you may have a different look than what is shown below. You will have to find the print button if it doesn t appear as shown below. 15

You can also print directly from your browser by clicking on the printer icon in your browser or the blue Print button in Degree Works, however, the formatting may change and cause the evaluation to look differently than what is presented on your screen. 16

Registration Checklist In Degree Works, you can choose to only view courses that you still need to complete. The Registration Checklist can be helpful when preparing for advisement for the upcoming semester. You can access the Registration Checklist by choosing Registration Checklist from the Format drop down menu. After you choose the Registration Checklist, click View to see the Checklist. The Registration Checklist below only shows courses required for the Criminal Justice Major that are still needed. All Foundation Course Requirements and Free Electives are completed. This is indicated by the shown in the blue requirement area for that requirement. 17

Degree Block The degree block gives you a summary of which areas are still needed. For Example: - This student still needs to complete the Major in Criminal Justice requirements, which are then detailed below in the major block. - When you click on the link for more information it will take you to the NCCC website, where it details the process for applying for graduation online through Banner Web and payment of the graduation fee. Once you have applied and paid for graduation, this area will be met. Foundations Block If there is a green checkmark shown, all Foundation Course Requirements have been met. No courses will be listed when all requirements have been met. If the box is not checked and courses are listed as Still Needed, then the Foundation Course Requirements still need to be met. 18

Major Block The Major Block will list all courses still required to meet all major requirements. Electives Block The Electives Block will list how many credits of Free Electives are still needed for that particular program. If all Free Electives have been completed, you will see a green checkmark showing that this requirement is completed. If the major does not require Free Electives, the Free Electives block will not be listed (i.e. Nursing, AAS). 19

What-If Evaluation If you are interested in changing your major and would like to know which completed coursework will count in the new major, you can run a What-If Evaluation. To run a What-If Evaluation: 1. Click on What-If in the left hand column. 2. Choose the appropriate Program Admit Term from the drop-down list. 3. Choose the Major that you are considering from the Major drop-down list. The chosen Major will populate in the box called Chosen Areas of Study to the right of the drop-down list. If you are choosing a program which requires a concentration, i.e. Individual Studies or Digital Media, please also choose a Concentration from the Concentration drop-down list. 20

4. If you choose a Major from the drop-down list and then would like to change it to a different Major, click on the Major listed in the Chosen Areas of Study box. Then click on Remove. This will remove the previously selected major, so you can choose a different major to run a What-If Evaluation for. 5. Once you have chosen the appropriate program (and Concentration, if required), click Process What-If at the top. 6. Degree Works will then display your evaluation based on the chosen What-If Major. 7. Please note that you cannot save a What-If evaluation as a PDF document. This functionality is only available once you officially change your major in Banner. 21

Look Ahead If you would like to see how a future course will fit into your program requirements, you can use the Look Ahead function to find out. 1. Click on Look Ahead in the left hand column. 2. Enter a course in the Subject and Number box. Then click Add Course 3. The course will then populate in the Courses you are considering box. 22

4. Click on Process New at the top once you have added all courses you would like to Look Ahead for. 5. You will then be taken to the Evaluation. You will find the course you have chosen listed in the evaluation as PLANNED. If you have already taken the chosen course, it will be listed in the Courses Not Used area at the bottom as PLANNED. 23

GPA Calculator Degree Works offers a Graduation Calculator and a Term Calculator. These calculators can assist you with determining your eligibility for graduation. Graduation Calculator You can calculate your GPA by entering the following: Credits Remaining This can be determined on your evaluation worksheet by subtracting the Credits Required from the Credits Applied. Current GPA The GPA that is automatically listed in Current GPA is your overall GPA. You can change this to your program GPA to determine if you have met graduation requirements. The program GPA is shown on the Worksheet in the Major block. Credits Required Enter the required number of credits for the your major. This can be found either on the worksheet (as shown above) or by clicking on Credits Required. This will bring up a list of all majors and the required number of credits. 24

Here you will see a list of majors and their required number of credits. Desired GPA You will have to enter the GPA desired. Minimum GPA requirements for your major can be found in the NCCC Catalog. Once you have entered all required information, you will click Calculate. You will then be given information on how you can achieve the desired GPA, as shown below. Error Messages If the desired GPA is not able to be met, you will receive the message shown below. \ 25

Term Calculator You can estimate your GPA for the current term by clicking on Term Calculator. Courses that are currently in-progress will automatically populate as shown below. You can choose the grade for each individual course and click Calculate. This will provide you with an estimated GPA based on the grades chosen for each course. 26

Logging Out of Degree Works You can log out of Degree Works by clicking on the Log Out button at the top of the worksheet. Need Help? If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact: Registration & Records Office (A201) Phone: (716) You can also check out our instructional videos on YouTube at: 27
