Massey University Wireless Network Client Configuration Windows 7 Windows 7 wireless network Requirements You must have an active Massey network account, i.e. you should already be able to log onto the wired Massey network (for example the computer labs) for Staff with your Massey username and password and Students with your Student ID number and PIN. You must be within an area of wireless coverage. Typically this will be less than 100m from an access point. Refer to the coverage maps at http://wireless.massey.ac.nz/coverage.htm 1. Click on the network icon in the System Tray 2. Click on Open Network and Sharing Center 2 3. Click on Manage wireless networks 1 3 4. If the Massey network you want to connect on to is already in this list, select it and click Remove, otherwise continue to step 5. 5. Click Add 4 5 Page 1 of 7
6. Choose Manually create a network profile 6 7. In the Network name field type in the name of wireless connection e.g: MUStudents There are three wireless networks provided: MUStudents - Student users on any equipment MUStaffPrivateEquipment - Staff using private or non-massey equipment MUStaff - Staff using Massey-managed equipment (those with an ITXXXXXX number) 8. Choose WPA2-Enterprise in the Security type drop box 7 8 9. Choose AES in the Encryption type drop box 10. Make sure Start this connection automatically is ticked 9 11. Click on Next 12. 13. Choose the Connection tab 14. Tick Connect automatically when this network is in range. The other boxes should not have ticks 15. Click on the Security Tab 13 15 14 16 17 16. Choose Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP) from the drop down menu. 17. Click on the Settings button 18. The Protected EAP Properties window will pop up 19. Tick Validate server certificate 20. Tick DigiCert High Assurance EV Root CA 21. Choose: Secured password (EAP MSCHAP v2) 22. Make sure Enable Fast Reconnect is ticked 19 23. Click on the Configure button Note: If the DigiCert High Assurance EV Root CA certificate is listed twice in this list, tick both occurrences of this certificate. 20 If this certificate is not listed do not choose a certificate. Skip this step and once you have connected come back to the Protected EAP properties (step 20). Once you have connected and the certificate is available, tick the DigiCert High Assurance EV Root CA certificate and click on OK. 22 26 21 23 Page 3 of 7
24. Un-tick Automatically use my Windows logon name and password 25. Click on OK 26. Click on OK You will be returned to the Wireless Network Properties window. 27. Click on the Security Tab 28. Click on the Advanced button 27 29 30 31 28 29. Select the Specify authentication mode tick box 30. Select User authentication from the drop down list 31. Click Save credentials 32. The Network Authentication window will popup 33. Enter user name, (your student ID number) 34. Enter password (your 4 digit PIN) 35. Click on OK all previous windows 33 Your computer should now be connecting automatically to MUStudents. Once it is connected try your internet browser. If you still cannot connect check your Massey log-on credentials are correct. Page 4 of 7 35 34
Windows 7 Wireless Network Trouble Shooting At this point your laptop should start connecting to the wireless network. Certificate Troubleshooting If you were unable to choose the certificate name in step 20, the Windows Security Alert prompt may appear in which case click Connect. If you are still unable to connect you can go back to step 20. All the settings you have already chosen should still be correct, but when you get to step 20 you should see the DigiCert High Assurance EV Root CA certificate. Tick the certificate, then click OK on all the windows till you get to 35, and your laptop should start making the connection. Should you need to change the network properties they can be found in the Network and Sharing centre found in the control panel window, then clicking on Manage wireless networks and double clicking on the appropriate Massey wireless network profile. Additional Information If the Additional Information needed balloon appears from the System Tray click on it and enter your network authentication (your Massey Username or Student ID and Password or 4 digit PIN) If a window pops up to set Network location choose Public and then OK to accept the setting Now your network is connected to the wireless network you can test it. 1. Open your browser, either Firefox or Internet Explorer 2. Check to see if you can connect to the Massey Website. www.massey.ac.nz 3. If you can see the Massey website you are connected. Now check for external websites eg: www.google.co.nz 4. If you can connect to Google then your browser settings are correct. If you are unable to get to Google you will need to change your browser settings to automatically detect proxy settings. Page 5 of 7

Open Firefox, Navigate to www.google.co.nz, you should get prompted asking for (Your Massey username and password or your 4 digit PIN) 8 9 Note: By changing this setting in your browser(s) your Internet connection may not work when you connect to a network without a proxy server e.g.at your home. If the Internet does not work when you get home (or from another location without a proxy server) change the setting back to No Proxy (Step 7).
