Kennedy School of Government (Harvard University) and the Banff Center of Management in Canada on Conflict Resolution and Negotiations: has field experience in crisis management under martial law conditions in the Philippines; and continues to apply skills in participatory approach in resolving conflicts and issues in multi-sectoral and multi-cultural settings and environment. 2

Community Organizer, Leader As a long time community organizer and NGO leader: Strategist has lived and worked with peasants, indigenous peoples, urban poor, trade union workers and fisher folks in various parts of the country helping them promote their concerns and interest; has comprehensive understanding and ground experience in community organizing, mobilization and fund sourcing; and has an in-depth knowledge of various bottom of the pyramid and marginalized sectors. Work Experiences Professor, Asian Institute of Management (AIM) 1990 2009 Core Faculty member of the Master in Development Management (MDM) and Project Planning, Development & Management (PPDM). Also taught in AIM Management Training programs conducted in Bali, Jakarta, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak and Kuching, Southern China. Assumed the following administrative functions: Associate Dean of CDM (1995) Program Director of the Masters in Development Management program (MDM) for 2008-2009 MRR Coordinator (Management Research Reports of students) CDM Research Director, 2006 Program Director of several non-degree public programs: Program for Development Managers (PDM), and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Initiated and directed major research projects: Environment, Development and Management Programsupported by the Mac Arthur Foundation in 1994 and 1998, Community-based Natural Resources Management- Funded by the Ford Foundation in 1998; and Sustainable Cities programme funded by the UN Habitat in 2006. Natural Resources Conflicts funded by the UNDP, 2008. The outcomes of these projects include: Integration of Environment as part of the Master in Business (MBA) & Master in Development Management Programs (MDM). AIM was granted the ISO 1400 certification, the only management school to receive such accreditation in the world (by-product of the environmental seeding); Production of over 50 management teaching cases and papers; Design and integration of an elective on Managing Community- Based Projects in the MDM program, Design and development of the first Corporate Social Responsibility course offered by AIM to the public in Bali Indonesia, 2004. CSR became part of the academic program and regularly run by the Ramon Del Rosario (RVR) Center for Corporate Social Responsibility; and Institutionalization and mainstreaming of the UN Sustainable Cities program in the local government of Lipa City, Batangas. Designed, developed and taught new electives for the MDM academic degree program: Mobilizing Corporate Resources for Sustainable Development; 4

Community-driven Projects for Environmental Protection; Ecosystems and Human Society; Mitigation and Adaptation Strategies for Global warming; and Environmental Leadership Undersecretary for Environment and Research; Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Philippines. February 1994 -January 1995 Formulated policies and implemented national government programmes particularly with respect to pollution abatement. Directed DENR s monitoring and evaluation of private sector companies compliance with regulatory policies and standards, and Rendered advice on practical measures to minimize pollution. Served in the following capacities: Chairperson, ASEAN Senior Officials on the Environment (ASOEN), 1994( led Asean environment officials in formulating common environmental standards and forging consensus on these in the 5 th ASEAN ministerial meeting in Bandar Seri Berwagan, Brunei in 1994) Presiding Chairman, Pollution Adjudication Board (PAB), 1994 Member, Presidential Commission on Mt. PAFID is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) working for sustainable upland development and ancestral land rights and pioneered in securing the ancestral domains of indigenous people in the Philippines. Executive Director, Philippine Association for Intercultural Development (PAFID) - 1982-1984 Provided strategic thinking and leadership in implementing its development objectives, plans, and programs which revitalized PAFID, from its moribund state Pioneered in the struggle for the legal recognition of the ancestral domain of indigenous people. Team and Project Leader; Philippine Ecumenical Council for Community Organization (PECCO) and Community Organization of the Philippine Enterprises (COPE)- 1971-1975 Provided leadership and directed COPE community organizing efforts in rural and urban poor communities; Provided resource expertise for capacity building to other teams in the Visayas and Mindanao regions. PECCO and COPE are national and Church based NGOs, which pioneered in mobilizing and organizing grassroots communities of farmers, fisherfolks, indigenous people, and the urban poor into effective people s organizations. Consulting and Other Engagements: Visiting Professor, University of San Carlos, Cebu (2008) Lectured for a semester on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at the College of Commerce of USC. Visiting Professor, Trisakti University-Jakarta (2007) Acted as advisor to the CSR program of the University; Conducted workshops for the faculty; and Delivered lectures to the student body. Advisor, UN Sustainable Cities Program - Lipa City (2005-2006) Forged consensus and cohesiveness amongst different stakeholders from the private and public sectors including civil society. Developed a conservation plan and strategy to save the Mt. Malarayat Watershed. Advisor, Shell Philippines Exploration (2004) Directed the development of case studies on initiatives of Shell Philippines in sustainable development in partnership with the International Management Development. 6

Served as resource person at the Social Performance Regional Workshop of Shell Exploration and Production Company. Advisor, Religious of the Good Shepherd (RGS), Philippines (2003) Provided training and advice in managing community-driven projects on livelihood programs in Manila and Davao. Consultant, Manila Electrical Company (MERALCO) Ortigas, Metro Manila (2001-2002) Provided advice to the President and Chairperson on improving company performance and growth through consultation and participation of employees in major issues facing employees and employers alike. Provided training on Total Quality Management (TQM) to employees and general workers of MERALCO-a privately -owned utility company. Consultant, University of the Philippines at Los Banos, Institute of Environmental Science and Management (IESM), Laguna (1990-1995) Provided advice to the Chancellor on a project designed to save Mt. Makiling from environmental degradation and destruction by using participatory approach involving the upland dwellers in conservation activities. This project received funding from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) Consultant, Asian Development Bank (ADB) Appraisal Mission for the Coastal Resource Management Program (1997) Conducted an Institutional and Social Assessment of the Proposed Coastal Resource Management Project of the Philippine Government & prepared the Project Administration Manual (PAM) of the said project. Consultant, USAID Funded Partners Program of the Gerry Roxas Foundation (1997) Developed strategies and implementation plans for the coalition by providing assistance and advice to the Field Officers of the Gerry Roxas Foundation in Panay Consultant, Asian Development Bank s Benefit and Monitoring Evaluation (PBME) Review of the Palawan Integrated Area Development Project (1990) Participated and provided inputs as a rural sociologist in the ADB mission to conduct a project benefit and monitoring evaluation of the Palawan Integrated Area Development Project. 7

Consultant, National Irrigation Administration (NIA), Participatory Strategies for Irrigation (1989) Developed the program framework for implementing participatory strategies for the effective management of irrigation systems. Provided advisory services to management on how to realign existing systems and procedures to support the proposed participatory strategies.
