5 My personal Background. Dr Kamaruding Abdulsomad received his first degree (Fil. Kand) in Economics and his doctorate in Economic History from School of Economics and Management, University of Lund. After finishing his doctorate in 2003 he worked as a researcher at the Department of Economic History, School of Economics and Management, University of Lund where he conducted a research project on the Impacts of Globalization on the transformation of the automobile industry in Asia. The project was financed by Fahlbeckska Stiftelsen. In , he worked as a researcher at the Center for East and South-East Asian Studies at Lund University where he taught master courses in Economic Theory and The Economic Transformation of East and South-East Asia and supervised master theses. At the Centre, he conducted a research project on Chinese Businesses in South-East Asia in an era of Globalization. He joined the School of Business, Economics and Law, Gothenburg University in August He is now a post-doctoral research fellow and a lecturer in Industrial Management at the Master Programme with Professor Maureen McKelvey for the Graduate School. His research interests are innovation management, automobile industry, Chinese Businesses in South-East Asia and Swedish multinational companies in Asia. His current research project deals with the relationships between Swedish multinational companies and their subsidiaries and networks in Asia (Malaysia and China). The project intends to examine the impact of external networks or subsidiaries on the competitiveness and repositioning of Swedish multinational companies in the global market.
