I have facilitated dialogue processes for developing Infrastructures for Peace,andsupportedthedevelopmentandmanagementofgovernanceprogrammesinanumberof countries. I have undertaken and coordinated building national capacities for conflict transformation, and built strategic national governance teams for sustainable conflict transformation. This capacity developmentincludedinsiderandinternationalmediatorsandelectionsmanagementbodyofficials. My key strengths are highrlevel governance and political advisory/analytical services and dialogue facilitation,programmedevelopmentandmanagement,knowledgetransferthroughstrategiccapacity developmentandbuildingstrongnationalteams.ipossessthekeyuncompetenciesforservicingata seniorunlevel;andhavestrongdiplomatic,interpersonalandleadershipskillsproveninmanycountry Offices. I served as the National Coordinator of the project Developing Capacity for Negotiating and Conflict Transformation Skills in Zimbabwe before supporting UNDP in various countries. In Sierra Leone, I servedasadvisortothepoliticalpartiesregistrationcommission,andfacilitatedthenegotiationsthat culminated in the agreement on the Code of Conduct for Political Parties before the pivotal 2007 elections.ialsoservedinnigeriaasseniordialogueandconsultativeprocessadvisorintheofficeof the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, on the implementation of the Presidential InitiativeontheNigerDelta. In Ghana I served as the UN Senior Peace and Governance Advisor in the Office of the Resident Coordinator.InthisroleIsupportedthemediationoftheDagbonConflict,andplayedakeyroleinthe process that subsequently resulted in the enactment of the National Peace Council Act in Recently,IservedinZimbabweasaUNDPRsupportedSeniorReconciliationandDialogueAdvisorOrgan tothenationalhealing,reconciliationandintegration.inthiscapacity,ifacilitatedthedialogueamong thethreeministersofthepoliticalpartiesinthegovernmentofnationalunity.thissupportculminated in the development and Cabinet approval of the Policy Framework for the National Peace and ReconciliationCommission(NPRC).TheNPRCisnowoneoffive IndependentCommissionsSupporting Democracy inthe2013constitutionofzimbabwe. In Uganda, I facilitated the dialogue of the National Consultative Forum (made up of all registered political parties) for developing a Code of Conduct for Political Parties, and the rationalization of electoralreforms.specifically,icorfacilitateaworkshopforthemembersofthenationalconsultative Forum(NCF) Committee on Legal and Electoral Affairs and supported the development of strategic optionsandaplanofactionforthencftofurthersupportinstitutionalizingtheoperationsofthencf; undertook an experiencersharing session to a small team of experts who drafted an issues paper identifying:keyelectoralreformsneededforpeacefulandstableelectionsinthecountryandkeyissues that needed to be addressed in the then current version of the draft code of conduct for political parties;workedincloseconjunctionwiththencfcommitteeonlegalandelectoralaffairstoprovide

2 ananalyticalreportonthecapacityneedsofthemembers,andthenatureofinterventionsneededto furthersupporttheinstitutionalizationofncfoperations;facilitatedaworkshopforthencfbusiness CommitteeandNCFLegalandElectoralAffairsCommitteethatleadtothedevelopmentofconsensus on a number key issues of interest to the two committees; undertook an analysis of the strategic options for the local level peace building infrastructure in the country (under IRCU component of project). InKenya,IhaveservedasTechnicalAdvisoronConflictTransformationCapacityBuildinginitiativesand missions.inoctober2004,undertheauspicesofthejointundprdpaprogrammeonbuildingnational Capacity for Conflict Prevention. The purpose of this multiragency was to support the Kenya Country Officeandkeynationalstakeholdersinidentifyingtheconcreteelementsofacomprehensivestrategy forreducingandmanagingtherisksfornaturalandmanrmadedisasters.themissionidentifiednational activities for building the skills and aptitudes of key stakeholders for constructive negotiation and consensus formation. The mission conducted a workshop with select stakeholders in order to solicit inputsintotheproposedactivities.themissionsupportedthecodevelopaprogramme,andidentified modalitiesforcontinuedcollaborationbetweenundphq,dpa,desa,ocha,andtheundpcountry OfficeintheprovisionofthisconcretesupportfortheCountryOffice. The mission had extensive discussion with the Office of the President including key officials in the Secretariat, National Steering Committee on Peace Building and Conflict Management; civil society organisations;theunsysteminkenya;faithrbasedorganisations;andacademia. Further, I served as trainer (2011 and 2012) for the Kenya Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission,andfacilitatedthetrainingacrossthecountryofalltheConstituencyElectionCoordinators (then190),regionalelectioncoordinators,aswellasanumberofiebcdirectors.thepurposeofthe trainingwastoensurethatiebcofficialswerecapacitatedindealingwithelectoralconflictswithintheir jurisdiction,andtopreventviolentconflictinmarch2013election. In Malawi, I have supported the Office of the President and Cabinet in the development of an Infrastructure for Peace in Malawi; and training the Public Affairs Committee (an insider mediator/advocacy institution). In Sierra Leone and Lesotho I have supported the development of GovernanceProgrammes,andinterRandintraRpoliticalpartiesmediationprocesses(SierraLeone). In Pakistan, I supported UNDPRPakistan to develop a conflict analysis profile of the Afghan bordering Balochistan Province. The study served as a major conflictrsensitivity input into the sevenryear Balochistan Comprehensive Development Strategy ( ), and as a guide for UNDP social cohesionprogramminginpakistan.theprocesswasextensivelydocumentedforlessonslearned.the conflict analysis exercise also served to focus UNDP strategic positioning in relation to its onrgoing governance,conflictpreventionwork.further,thestudyassessedpossibilitiesforengagingwithlocal stakeholders and supporting local dialogue mechanisms. It also explored possible ways of supporting themanagementoftheextractiveindustryinawaythatminimisesitspotentialnegativeimpact. Senior Associate Centre for Mediation in Africa, University of Pretoria, South Africa (January2012 Present) The Centre for Mediation in Africa, housed in the University of Pretorias Department of Political Sciences, aims to contribute to enhancing the effectiveness of mediation in major conflicts in Africa throughteaching,training,researchandsupportingtheunitednations,theafricanunion,subrregional organisationsandafricangovernments. Recent mediation training programmes that I corfacilitated include the inaugural Senior Government Officials,SADCMediationSupportUnit,theEastAfricanCommunityMediationtrainingworkshops, and MediationTrainingfortheDiplomaticAcademyoftheDepartmentofInternationalRelations andcooperation,pretoria,southafrica. InApril2012,theZimbabweCabinetapprovedtheestablishmentoftheNationalPeaceand ReconciliationCouncil(NPRC). ii. InAugust2012,theSelectCommitteeofParliamentontheNewConstitution(COPAC) recommendedtheelevationofthecounciltothestatusofacommission,andmadethe CommissiononeofthefiveIndependentCommissionsSupportingDemocracy. iii. InJanuary2013theNationalPeaceandReconciliationCommissionwasformallyagreedby politicalpartiesinthegovernmentofnationalunityandincludedinthedraftconstitution asoneofthefiveindependentcommissionssupportingdemocracy. iv. InMarch2013theNewConstitutionwasoverwhelminglyapprovedinareferendum. v. TheSeptember December2013assignmentinvolvedtheReviewoftheDraftPrinciplesof thenprcandalignthemtotheprovisionsofthenewconstitutionofzimbabwearticle12, Part6ontheNationalPeaceandReconciliationCommissionby5August2013;Supporthigh leveldialoguesthatinformthelegalprocessestofacilitatetheestablishmentofthenprc and its structure; Advise the ONHRI Secretariat and OPC Deputy Chief Secretary on the transferofthegainsmadebytheonhriintothenprcframework. 8. UNDP/BCPR: Consultations on strengthening capacities for the establishment of Infrastructures for Peace at Regional Level in Johannesburg, South Africa and Maseru, Lesotho(September2013). I facilitated the backrtorback consultations whose key objectives were to:(aimp) (i) Share, integrate and expand approaches, experiences and linkages between mediators across existing networks and organizations, (ii) Discuss relations and modalities of support and collaboration 5

6 between mediators active at national level and mediation initiatives of relevant bodies within RegionalEconomicCommunities,and(iii)Assessthemediatorskeycapacityneedsandformulate the recommendations to address the gaps; and (SADC) strengthen the linkage between the mediation efforts at the regional and continental levels, and to enhance national capacity for preventionofviolentconflict. 9. UNDPTMalawi: SimulationExerciseandMediationTrainingforPanelofMediators(May2014) Facilitated the training in order to sharpen mediation and dialogue facilitation skills of the intermediaries identified by Public Affairs Committee (PAC) leaders, assist the identified intermediariestodevelopstrategiesforplayingtheirrolesinacredibleandindependentmanner, create opportunity for the wider group of PAC leaders to analyze experiences of facilitation, especiallytheallrinclusiveconferenceontransparencyandaccountabilityhostedbypacinmarch 2014, after the strategy development workshop in February 2014, and to further consolidate a commonunderstandingofthevariousrolestheywouldbeexpectedtoplayas insidermediators andadvocatesforpeaceandtoassistthemindevelopingconcreteplansforanticipatingandplaying their planned roles, and also in availing of best practices in terms of serving as mediators and facilitators DevelopmentofMalawiPeaceArchitecture(August2013) I served as Team Leader for the Development of Malawi Peace Architecture for Malawi. The purpose of the assignment was to design a be realistic as well as ensure effectiveness, relevance, efficiency,andsustainabilitynationalpeacearchitecturethatresponsivetothecountry sneedsrand takesintoaccountthelessonslearntfromvariousinitiativesonconflictmanagementimplementedby various public and civil society organisations. The design took into account and identified institutions withwhichtobuildsynergiesintheprovisionofconflictmanagementservicesinmalawi. UNCTTMalawiConflictMitigationSensitisationWorkshop(November2012) TheobjectiveoftheworkshopwastostrengthentheUNCT sjointanalysis(asoneun)skillsandto engenderconflictsensitivityinunprogramsandactivitiesinmalawi. ConsultationonanInfrastructureforDialogueandCollaborativeProblemTsolvingforMalawi (March2012) FacilitatedmultiRstakeholderworkshoptdiscusstheproposedinfrastructureforCollaborativeproblemR solvinganddialogueinmalawi,securebuyrinfromallstakeholders,andidentifyandagreeonrolesand responsibilitiesandbroadimplementationframework. 10. UNDPTPakistan:ConflictAnalysis/ConflictTSensitiveDevelopmentProgramming(June2013) IservedasConsultantforConflictAnalysis/ConflictRSensitiveDevelopmentProgrammingforPakistan.I developed a conflict analysis profile of the Afghan bordering Balochistan Province of Pakistan. UnitedNationsDevelopmentProgramme(SierraLeone) :May/April2013 UndertookaconflictanalysisexercisefocusingonstrategicpositioningofUNDPinrelationtoonRgoing and possible new catalytic conflict prevention and dialogue efforts; assessed possibilities for engaging with local stakeholders and supporting local dialogue mechanisms; explored possible ways of supporting the management of the extractive sector in a way that minimises its potential negative impact,andadvisedontheroleofthefuturepeaceanddevelopmentadvisorthatwillbedeployedto boostthecapacityofthecountryofficeandtoprovidetimelysupportandadvicetoseniormanagersat bothunipsilandundpduringthetransitionperiod. 12. UNDPTUganda: Facilitator/Resource Person for a workshop Uganda National Consultative Forum(January2013andMay2013) Uganda s National Consultative Forum (NCF) is a constitutionally mandated body, tasked with facilitatingdialogueamongstpoliticalparties.ncfiscomposedofallregisteredpoliticalpartiesinthe countryandischairedbyapartywithmajorityinparliamentanddeputizedbyanoppositionpartywith thelargestmembershipinparliament. The workshop outputs were (i) strategic options and a plan of action for the institutionalising the operations of the NCF,(ii) an issues paper identifying key electoral reforms needed for peaceful and stable elections in the country, and(iii) paper identifying key issues that need to be addressed in the currentversionofthedraftcodeofconductforpoliticalparties. 13. UNDPMalawi(MarchandNovember2012) i. In March 2012 corfacilitated a national consultation on an infrastructure for dialogue and collaborativeproblemrsolvingformalawi. 7 ii. InNovember2012coRfacilitatedUNCTRMalawiworkshoptostrengthentheirjointanalysis (asoneun)abilitiesandensureconflictsensitivityinunprogramsandactivitiesinmalawi. 14. Electoral Reform International Services UK (September December 2011) and February 2012 SeniorConflictandElectionExperttoundertakeaconflictassessmentmissioninKenyaonbehalfof ERIS,followedbythepreparationofaconflictmitigationtrainingguide.ConductedaToTfor selectedconstituencyelectioncoordinators(25)andcascadedthetrainingtoallconstituencyelection CoordinatorsandallRegionalElectionCoordinators. Training for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission of Kenya in Alternative Dispute Resolution(ADR)mechanismssuchconflictanalysis,earlywarning,dialogueprocesses,negotiationand mediationatthreelevels:thecommissioners,theheadofficesecretariatstaffandtheregionaland ConstituencyElectionCoordinators.Atfullstrength,theCommissionwillhaveseventeen(17)Regional Election Coordinators (RECs) and two hundred and ninety (290) Constituency Election Coordinators (CECs);andsupportthemindeliveringpeacefulelectionsin2012.

ParliamentofZimbabwe(April2011) TrainingMembersofParliamentofZimbabweonConflictPrevention,Resolution,PeaceBuildingand the Role of Parliament: The purpose of the assignment is to introduce the concept of conflict prevention,resolutionandpeacebuildingtomembersofparliamentinorderforthemtobecomepeace ambassadors in their constituencies. This is especially important as the discussions on early elections gatheredsteam,andtherewerealreadyreportsofpoliticallyrmotivatedviolenceflaringupinsomeof theareas. 16. UnitedNationsDevelopmentProgramme(Ghana)08/ /2010;April2011 June/July2013: I served as Lead Consultant for the Develop and Delivery of a Mediation,*Dialogue*and*Negotiation training course for the Board Members and some select staff of the National Peace Council(NPC) of Ghana.Theobjectivesoftheconsultancywereto:(i)increasethecapacityofNPCBoardMembersto directly and effectively undertake mediation, dialogue and negotiationas relates to conflict in Ghana, and(ii)increasethecapacityofnpcselectedstafftousemediation,dialogueandnegotiationintheir work, while at the same time increasing their capacity to train others within Ghana s Peace Architecture. April 2011: UNDPRGhana engagement to work with the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Justice and National Peace Council to(i) develop organizational structure and functional arrangement to formally "establish"npcunderthenewlaw,(ii)facilitateinceptionmeetingsforthenewcouncilandstaff,(iii) strategicworkplanningforthenewcouncilandtheircapacitydevelopmentplan,and(iv)conductinitial trainingsessionsonkeyagendaprioritiesandbestpractices. 08/ /2010: Chief, Governance Programme in Ghana, with specific mandates in (i) Peace building and conflict Prevention, Strategic Support and Engagement with Stakeholders, (ii) Managerial, Supervisory and Programme Management, and (iii) Resource Mobilisation and PartnershipDevelopment. Myresponsibilitiesinclude:supervisingprogrammeofficersandotherstaffoftheGovernanceUnit andprovidementoringandguidanceintheimplementationofawp s;providingstrategicadviceand analyses to the RR/RC, BCPR, RBA and DPA on issues relating to peace and development in the country,withaviewtoenablingthebestsupportfromthewiderunsystemforpeacebuildingand conflict prevention in Ghana; providing analytical and technical advisory support to the Eminent Kings Committee on the Dagbon chieftaincy conflict and facilitate the implementation of any agreementsthatmaybereachedaswellaspromotingreconciliationinthedagbontraditionalarea; beingthefocalpointforthegovernanceunitandmaintaincontactandstrategicpartnershipwith Donors, UN Agencies, International and National NGOs and Government counterparts as needed; andengagingwithnationalactorstodeepenownershipofthenationalarchitectureforpeaceandto widentheconstituencyforpeacethroughoperationalisingtheworkoftheregionalpeacecouncils andbuildingcapacitiesforconflictpreventionatdistrictandlocallevels,aswellasengaginginintra andintercommunitypeacerbuildingandreconciliation,parliamentandpoliticalparties. 17. UnitedNationsDevelopmentProgramme(Nigeria)01/2008 July2008 8

9 IservedasSeniorDialogueandConsultativeProcessAdvisorintheOfficeoftheVicePresidentofthe FederalRepublicofNigeria,ontheimplementationofthePresidentialInitiativeontheNigerDelta.My role included helping establish a functional Niger Delta Office; construct a resultsrbased strategic planfortheoffice:elaborateworkingarrangementsanddivisionsofresponsibility;hireadditional professional and support staff; assist the State Governments in the target States in establishing similarcoordinationoffices;providefacilitationsupporttothestaffofthepresidencytohelpwith overallstrategicplanningofitsnumerousfunctionsandresponsibilitiesrelatingtothenigerdelta initiative; and train, upon request, relevant existing and new staff in the Presidency, in State Governments and coordination offices in the areas of facilitation, mediation and convening of dialogueforumsforeffectivegroupprocesses. 18. TheFolkeBernadotteAcademy(Sandö,SwedenTNovember10T16,2007) Iservedasresourcepersoninthecapacitybuildingcourse FacilitationofDialogueProcesses and Mediation Efforts for the UN Department of Political Affairs professional staff. The objectives of the training course were to (i) promote uniformity in the United Nations understandingofandapproachtomediationanddialogue,whilestrengtheningdpa smediation SupportUnitasasupportofmediationanddialogueintheUNsystem,(ii)encouragereflection on UN mediation within a valuesrbased framework, (iii) enhance skills and provide practical methodologiesfordialogueandmediation,and(iv)provideanopportunitytomeet,reflectand share,withindpaandwithpartnerundepartmentsandprogramsformediationanddialogue processes. 19. UnitedNationsDevelopmentProgramme(SierraLeone) 10/ /2007;April/May / /2007: Served as UN Technical Advisor to the Political Parties Registration Commission(PPRC),andworkedcloselywithUNIOSILandtheUNDPelectoralteamtoensure the proper planning, coordination and execution of the Commissions activities for the 2007 presidentialandparliamentaryelections.thespecificresponsibilitiesincluded:(i)supportingthe PPRCsinstitutionalcapacitydevelopment,(ii)AssistingthePPRCindevelopingadetailedwork planofitsactivitiesleadingtothe2007presidentialandparliamentaryelections,(iii)advising thepprcontheoverallorganizationofitsactivitiesrelatedtotheelectoralprocess,(iv)advising the PPRC on program activities, technical expertise and procurement that will be required to successfullydischargeitsduties,and(v)providingtechnicaladvicetothepprc,asrequired. 9 Ifacilitatedacodeformulationdialogue/workshop,andmoderatedthediscussionsandsupport the synthesis of ideas and suggestions for the code. Further I supported the group in dealing with areas of conflict and in reaching consensus and offered expert advice to the dialogue participantsinspecificissuesandinareasofdisagreement.ifacilitated(i)thedevelopmentof thefinaldraftofthecodeofconductbasedonthediscussionsandtheagreementsreached,(ii) thedesignofafollowrupstrategyforthepprcregardingtheimplementationandmonitoringof thecodeofconduct,includingtheissueofsanctions,and(iii)providedtechnicaladvicetothe PPRCintheareaofcodeofconductsandsanctions. UnitedNationsDevelopmentProgramme(Zimbabwe) 02/ /2004 I served as a National Coordinator of the project Developing Capacity for Negotiating and Conflict Transformation Skills in Zimbabwe and provided that strategic leadership in the developmentprocessesandsubsequentimplementationofthisproject.reportedtorc. TheProjectwasbasedonstrongstakeholderbuyRinandcreativeuseofUNpresence ontheground andallowedparticipantsfromdifferentculturesandpoliticalleanings inahighlypolarisedandpoliticallychargedenvironmenttocoroperativelyanalysethe causesofconflictsandtojointlydevelopappropriateresponsesforpromotingpeace. This was an innovative approach towards the integration of conflict prevention initiativesintodevelopmentprogramming. In the process, I gained sufficient confidence and trust of opposing stakeholders to continuetraininginaseverelypolarisedandpoliticallychargedenvironment.bringing on board the military and police, academic and training institutions, parliament, governmentministries,civilsocietyandpoliticalpartieswasamajorachievement. Whereas the Project was not aimed at resolving current challenges, it served to strengthenthecapacitiesofdomesticelements,inaneutralspace.
