Introduction Congratulations on receiving your ipad. The first thing you will need to do is create a Northside Apple ID to be used with the District-owned ipad. Once that is completed, you will turn on the ipad and configure it for the NISD network. Creating an Apple ID 1. Open Internet Explorer on a PC. 2. Go to http://appleid.apple.com. 3. On the right, click CREATE AN APPLE ID. 4. Complete the required fields. * NOTE: As this will become your new Apple ID, it MUST be your NISD e-mail address in the following format: (first name.last name@nisd.net). 5. Click CREATE APPLE ID. 6. Check your GMail account for the Apple Verification email. Once received, click VERIFY NOW. 7. Sign in to verify your account. Remember, your account is NOT ACTIVE until you do this. 8. Once you have successfully signed in to verify your email address you will see the following: PLEASE NOTE: Apple, not Northside ISD, may change the payment options in itunes or the Apps Store without notice. In many situations, under the Provide a Payment Method area, you may see NONE as a payment option. However, if this option is not available, you will need to enter a credit card number to continue creating the account, so please be prepared. 3
Setting Up Your ipad Press the Sleep/Wake On/Off button to begin the setup process. The following will serve as a checklist to give you an idea of what to expect: Choose a language Select your Country or Region Choose a WiFi Network (GENESIS) Connecting to Genesis 1. During the Setup process, select GENESIS and log in with your E-NUMBER and NETWORK PASSWORD. 2. Select JOIN. 3. Select ACCEPT to install the certificate. 4
Setting Up Your ipad After connecting to WiFi, continue with the following checklist: Select Enable Location Services Select Setup as New ipad Select Sign in with your Apple ID Enter your Apple ID and password Agree to Terms and Conditions Select Agree, then Agree again Select Use icloud Select Use Find My ipad imessage and Facetime (confirm how you can be reached) Select Next <updates icloud> Create a passcode (Use 1234 - This is temporary) Are you sure you want to use this code? (Use Code) Re-Enter Passcode icloud Keychain Select Don t restore passwords Don t restore passwords? Select Continue. Siri - (Use Siri) Diagnostics - (Don t Send) Welcome to ipad Select Get Started 5
ipad Name Change 1. From the Home screen, select SETTINGS. 2. Select GENERAL. 3. On the right-side, select ABOUT. 4. Select NAME. 5. In the text field, type NISD# and your ASSET TAG NUMBER on the back of your ipad. (i.e. NISD#123456). 6. Tap DONE on the keyboard. 6
Meraki ipad Registration To protect confidential staff and student information that may reside on your ipad, NISD requires you to set a passcode using Meraki. Meraki is a cloud-based mobile device management system that will assist Technology Services in managing ipads. The passcode must be a minimum of 8 characters. The passcode used will expire and need to be changed once every 365 days. To setup the device with the Meraki management profile: 1. Launch SAFARI. 2. Type m.meraki.com in the address bar and tap GO. 3. Enter the following Network ID: 012-659-4824 4. Tap REGISTER. 5. You will see the Meraki Mobile Setup window switch to the Install Profile window. 6. Tap INSTALL, INSTALL NOW. 7. Enter the passcode you previously created. 8. Tap INSTALL again, then DONE. 9. You are finished with Meraki when the Install window switches back to the Meraki window. 10. Press the HOME button. 11. You will be prompted to create an eight (8) character passcode. NOTE: Sometimes, after pressing the Home button, you will not see a prompt to create a passcode. If this happens, press the Sleep/Wake On/Off button once, then press it again. Swipe on the screen to see if it pops up. If not, repeat the steps again. 7
Changing a Passcode To change your passcode at any time: 1. In Settings, go to GENERAL and select PASSCODE LOCK. 2. Enter your current passcode and tap DONE. 3. In the Passcode Lock window, tap CHANGE PASSCODE. 4. Enter your old passcode and tap NEXT. 5. Enter a new EIGHT (8) CHARACTER PASSCODE. 6. Tap NEXT and re-enter your PASSCODE. 7. Tap DONE. NOTE: Once your current passcode expires, that passcode cannot be used again for the next 365 days. 8
